FSAI recalls wide range of branded prepared dinners

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a recall notice for a wide range of branded prepared dinners, across several different ingredients, branded ranges and retailers.
The list of impacted products, which are supplied by Ballymaguire Foods, extends to well over 100 individual branded dinners and side dishes.
It follows on from a recall notice issued last week for three products also supplied by Ballymaguire Foods.
The prepared meals and side dishes listed are being recalled due to the possible presence of listeria monocytogenes.
Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale, the FSAI said.
Most recalled products are sold individually by Tesco, Supervalu, Centra or Aldi. Separately, a significant minority are sold by both Supervalu and Centra, while a smaller minority are sold by various retailers.
The impacted products come in the following ranges of Ballymaguire Food products:
Irish Classics;
Classic Kitchen;
Meals Made Easy;
Finest;
Tesco;
Signature Taste;
Supervalu;
Freshly Prepared;
Centra;
Kitchen;
Fuel'd Foods;
Clean Cut;
Happy Pear;
Food To Go;
Specially Selected;
Inspired Cuisine;
From The Farm;
Good Food Locally Sourced.
The recalled products include many different meat and non-meat ingredients, and a small number of products are branded 'veggie', indicating no meat ingredients being included.
Products of all pack sizes, all batches, and all best-before dates are implicated. For all products the country of origin is Ireland, according to the FSAI.
Symptoms of listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications. Some people are more vulnerable to listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly.
The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average three weeks but can range between three and 70 days.
Retailers are requested to remove the implicated products from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.
Wholesalers or distributors are requested to contact their affected customers and recall the implicated products and provide a point-of-sale recall notice to their retailer customers.
Caterers should not use the implicated products.
Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated products. Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the implicated products and dispose of them.

Salmonella symptoms People who have been infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection. The most common symptom of Salmonella is diarrhoea which can sometimes be bloody. This can sometimes require hospital treatment. Other symptoms include abdominal cramps, fever and headache. The illness tends to last for between four and seven days and the immunocompromised, elderly and young children are more likely to have a severe illness. The latest recall follows a string of recalls of food products in Ireland due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes. More than 100 products were implicated in the recall as the FSAI advised consumers not to eat them as there was a risk of illness.
