The UT administration highlighted the role of the
Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme
(RDSS) in strengthening the power distribution network, particularly in remote areas, and thanked the Union Minister for approving revised cost estimates under the scheme.
Issues related to upgradation of the power distribution and transmission system were raised by the UT, with a request for continued support from the central government. The Chief Minister thanked the Union Minister for his visit and underlined the UT's commitment to improving the sector.
Union Minister Manohar Lal asked the UT administration to plan for capacity augmentation as per the Resource Adequacy Plan. The Union Minister also highlighted the need to resolve pending issues in ongoing NHPC hydro projects to enable their early completion and called on the UT to consider waiving the water cess levied on hydro projects to reduce power costs. He said the UT should coordinate with the Centre to build skills among the local workforce for hydro projects.
The Minister assured full support from the central government for the overall development of the UT.
During the visit, the Union Minister inaugurated the following grid infrastructure augmentation works:
1. Augmentation of 132/33 kV Grid Station Awantipora from 145 MVA to 175 MVA.
2. Augmentation of Grid Station Wanpoh, including replacement of a 20 MVA, 132/33 kV power transformer with a 50 MVA transformer.
3. Augmentation of Grid Substation Amargarh from 135 MVA to 195 MVA.

Dr Jitendra Singh calls for paradigm shift in agriculture sector
Technology in agriculture has progressed rapidly under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership over the past 11 years, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said on Monday, calling for a paradigm shift in the agriculture sector by embracing cutting-edge technology and fostering greater synergy among stakeholders. Addressing the 96th annual general meeting of the ICAR Society at the NASC Complex in the capital, the minister said its full potential still remains untapped at the ground level. Speaking at the event, chaired by Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Dr Singh underscored that every technology available globally is now accessible within India. 'It is no longer about whether technology is available—it is about how fast we adopt it and integrate it into our agricultural ecosystem to add value to our economy,' he told the gathering. The minister stressed the importance of breaking mental and institutional silos, noting that many in the agriculture value chain are not just unaware of new technologies, but also unaware that they are unaware. Pointing to success stories like the Lavender Revolution in Jammu and Kashmir, where over 3,500 startups have emerged around lavender cultivation, Dr Singh emphasised how new-age farming — using satellite imaging, remote-controlled tractors, and order-based crop production — is reshaping the agricultural narrative. 'From lavender in Bhaderwah to off-season tulips grown for temple offerings, we have examples where science and strategy have combined to generate both income and innovation,' he noted. He also highlighted that biotech-driven advances, such as pest-resistant cotton developed through Department of Biotechnology initiatives and radiation-based food preservation techniques by the Department of Atomic Energy, are redefining how produce is grown, stored, and exported. 'Our mangoes now fly to the U.S. thanks to these technologies. And yet, many states have not come forward to fully exploit these tools,' he observed. Dr Singh proposed more frequent and informal cross-ministerial interactions to ensure real-time exchange of innovations. 'We should not wait for annual meetings alone. Let's create working groups and reach out when solutions can be shared, spontaneously and practically,' he urged.

‘Intellectual dishonesty': Congress after Centre claims India is among most equal countries
The Congress on Monday accused the Union government of 'scaling new heights of intellectual dishonesty' with its 'fraudulent' analysis of World Bank data to claim that India is among the world's most equal countries. 'By doctoring data, the [Narendra] Modi government cannot simply wish away the stark reality of what is staring us in the face: growing and deepening inequalities, driven by its mindset and policies,' Congress MP Jairam Ramesh said on X. His remarks came after a Press Information Bureau release published on Saturday cited data from the World Bank to claim that India ranked fourth globally in income equality with a Gini Index of 25.5. The Gini Index is used to measure income inequality. It ranges in value from 0 to 100, with a score of 0 indicating perfect equality in a country and a score of 100 signifying maximum inequality where wealth is concentrated in fewer hands. The higher the Gini Index, the more unequal the country. The PIB release claimed that extreme poverty had dropped in India to 2.3% in 2022-'23. '171 million Indians moved out of extreme poverty between 2011–23,' it added. This interpretation has been criticised as being flawed, as the PIB compared India's consumption-based Gini Index with the income-based figures of other countries. Consumption inequality refers to the disparity in spending or consumption levels among individuals or households within a society. It is generally lower than income inequality in most countries because those with higher incomes tend to save more. As a result, consumption data, though still unequal, tends to appear more balanced than income data. On Monday, Ramesh said that when World Bank released its report for India in April, the Congress had identified 'warning signs' about poverty and inequality flagged in the report, including that government data was underestimating inequality. Three months after its release, the 'Modi government's drumbeaters and cheerleaders in the 'Press (mis)Information Bureau' issued a press release…making the 'staggeringly out-of-touch' claim that India is among the world's most equal societies,' added the Rajya Sabha MP. He alleged that the Union government was not only 'negligent' in its analysis of the World Bank report, but that it was also 'outright intellectually dishonest'. 'India is not the 4th most equal society, it is actually the 40th most unequal society in the world,' said Ramesh. He added: 'Such fraudulent analysis, being published through the auspices of the PIB, reveals one of two things: a disturbing lack of talent in this government, or an equally disturbing lack of intellectual integrity.' Ramesh also demanded that the PIB issue a clarification on the origins of the press release and retract it immediately. There has been a 'dangerous trend of such random ad-hoc statements and declarations' coming from the Union government, Ramesh said. 'In May 2025, we saw a similar flurry of incoherent and diverging statements from NITI Aayog officials on the size of the Indian economy,' he claimed. 'The political leadership's penchant for distortion and propaganda has clearly trickled down to officials as well.'
