TTG6 hours ago
State-straddling Kansas City (KC to friends) embraces several vibrant districts across Kansas and Missouri.
Clients seeking a culturally rich experience in the heart of the US should pay close attention to this authentic, affordable destination, with plenty to tempt food, music and sports fans.
In 2026 Kansas City will be in the spotlight as one of the American hosts of the Fifa World Cup 2026, with the area around the National WWI Museum and Memorial set to host the official Fan Festival.
In fact, those who follow US sports will be in their element whenever they visit, with American football's Kansas City Chiefs, winners of the 2023 and 2024 Superbowls, among big name local sides and the world's first stadium purpose-built for a professional women's team among landmarks.
With KC as part of their itinerary, visitors can also enjoy live performances in the Power & Light District, award-winning restaurants in the Crossroads Arts District, and open-air browsing in the historic River Market area. They might also track down the famous giant shuttlecocks outside The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, an acclaimed and sprawling institution offering free admission daily.
But if your clients are new to Kansas City they'll do well to start with its trio of traditional draws: jazz, barbecue and fountains.
Unesco-listed jazz
From the roaring '20s to the early '40s, jazz reigned supreme in Kansas City. The historic 12th Street was particularly known for its music clubs, which along with its gambling parlours and brothels, earned KC the nickname Paris of the Plains.
Today, live jazz endures with an impressive 40 dedicated clubs across the destination and KC is the United States' only designated Unesco City of Music.
Your clients may enjoy smooth keyboard performances at Green Lady Lounge or late-night jam sessions at the Mutual Musicians Foundation.
They can also learn about local legends including Charlie Parker and other icons such as Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald at the American Jazz Museum in the 18th & Vine Historic Jazz District.

Livvy Dunne's boyfriend Paul Skenes reveals shock career plan once he's quit baseball

Pirates star Paul Skenes has revealed a surprising career plan for when his playing days are over. The reigning NL Rookie of the Year, who is dating former LSU gymnastics star Livvy Dunne, has quickly established himself as one of the best pitchers in the league. But he hilariously shared with a reporter on Tuesday that he would 'love to cut grass professionally' in the future. Skenes was snapped by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Noah Hiles talking with the Pirates grounds crew, with the reporter saying Skenes had been 'chopping it up with the boys for a good 15-20 minutes.' The pitcher later told Hiles that he was out there because he was 'bored,' before sharing his desire to one day cut grass for a living. For now, Skenes is thriving on the diamond as he's putting together another strong season for the struggling Pirates. Paul Skenes looks to have joined the Pirates grounds crew. He's been out there, chopping it up with the boys for a good 15-20 minutes now. — Noah Hiles (@_NoahHiles) July 1, 2025 Skenes is one of the best pitchers in the sport and will make millions in MLB before retiring Despite the team's 38-50 record, Skenes is pitching a 2.03 ERA with 115 strikeouts thus far this season. In fact, his ERA over his 41 career games is an even-better 1.99 Skenes is making $875,000 this year, though that number is expected to balloon once he negotiates his first long-term contract. Previously, ESPN's MLB insider Jeff Passan claimed there was a 'real argument' for the Pirates to trade Skenes at the deadline this year. 'The truth is, there will be teams that ask about Paul Skenes at the deadline this year, and I don't anticipate that he's going to be moved,' Passan began on the Pat McAfee Show. 'But there's a real argument to be made that the best thing for the Pittsburgh Pirates would be to move Paul Skenes while he has the most value.' Passan went on to claim that the famously stingy Pirates - who have the third-lowest payroll in the league this season - were not currently 'worthy' of getting Skenes to sign an extension. 'It's not just Paul Skenes who deserves better,' Passan continued. 'It's Pittsburgh Pirates fans who deserve better, and they deserve a system that allows teams to keep great players. 'Now in some cases, guys will stay with small market teams, we've seen that... But what incentive does Paul Skenes have to extend with the Pirates when the Pirates haven't shown the willingness – from either [owner] Bob Nutting all the way down – or the ability, to bring in guys who are going to make this team better? The Pirates haven't shown that they are worthy of a Paul Skenes extension at this point.' However, Pirates GM Ben Cherington later said any such trade talk was 'not part of the conversation at all.' The Pirates will face the Mariners on Friday after winning their last six games.

Humiliated Travis Kelce names the 'worst thing I ever did' during his career

Travis Kelce has claimed that his now-infamous dating show 'Catching Kelce' is the 'worst thing' that he's ever done in his career. Kelce was just 25 when he agreed to film the seven-episode series, which followed his attempt to find love out of a pool of 50 women, with one from each US state. 'Catching Kelce' was released in 2016 and came out just after the Kansas City Chiefs star had made his first Pro Bowl, in his fourth year in the NFL. Now, reflecting on the show during a recent appearance on the Bussin' With The Boys podcast, Kelce admitted that it's the biggest regret of his career. He explained: 'The worst thing I ever did was the dating show. It didn't set me up for anything. I didn't realize what reality TV really was. 'I don't even think anybody watched it,' he later admitted. Travis previously hosted the show 'Catching Kelce' back in 2016 when he was single It's not the first time that Kelce has talked down on his former dating show, having previously made mention of it in another interview. 'I don't really look back on the Catching Kelce era,' he admitted in an interview with WSJ magazine last October. While Kelce is no longer on the dating market - having been with popstar Taylor Swift since September 2023 - it appears that all reality shows are out of the question now. In July last year, Kelce said he turned down an offer to appear in a new Netflix docuseries. The streaming giants had announced the follow-up to its smash hit Quarterback, titled Receiver, followed five of the best pass catchers in the NFL and debuted last summer. The Kansas City superstar was approached about the show, after his teammate Patrick Mahomes appeared in the 2023 series Quarterback. 'After [ Patrick Mahomes ] did [Quarterback], I did get asked about it,' Kelce said during an interview on Bussin' with the Boys. 'I just — I don't know. I'd rather just play ball, man,' he went on. 'I'm already doing enough with the podcast and everything. I'm way over the reality s*** dude. I'm out on that s***.'

HGTV show's 'horrendous' home makeovers go viral

An old HGTV show is going viral on social media thanks to its 'horrendous' home makeovers and 'criminal' interior design work. Decorating Cents, hosted by Joan Steffend, aired from 1997 to 2007 on HGTV. The popular series saw interior designers attempt to redecorate a room in just a few hours on a paltry $500 budget. The series has now resurfaced on TikTok thanks to comedian Rob Anderson, with many users shocked by some of the flamboyant and garish design choices. In another episode, a wooden kitchen is haphazardly whitewashed over to create a 'farmhouse' look. One of the most egregious designs saw the decorator decoupage a wall unit with 'sacred Indian prayers' that had been dipped in tea and torn to give it 'an aged look.' Anderson called the series 'the most horrendous decorating you'll ever see' and said some of the redecorating deserved a 'prison sentence.' Social media users now can't stop talking about the show either, with one writing, '$500 budget to do $5,000 worth of damage to any room they step into.' Another commented, 'You know what? Maybe millennial gray was a trauma response.' A third wrote, 'I would press charges if someone did this to my house.' Steffend, who hosted the series until it went off the air in 2007, has now spoken out following its resurgence on TikTok in an interview with Entertainment Now. 'I mean, it's from the late 90s, early 2000s, and the designer's job was to be as wildly creative as they could be,' she explained of the show's questionable design work. 'There were hits and there were misses. And it didn't matter to HGTV. If it didn't look quite like we all thought it was going to, it didn't matter — I still needed to be encouraging. It was still gonna air.' She also said that the beauty of the show was allowing people to be creative and to enjoy their weird and wacky design work without judgement. 'We've gotta stop pointing and laughing at what people think is pretty, what people love at that moment in their life,' she said. She added, 'We did the best we could at the time.' Since Decorating Cents went viral, HGTV fans are now calling for its revival on Reddit. We are all clamoring for it. It's so hilariously bad that it deserves a revival. Gone too soon,' wrote one viewer. 'Oh lord no lol. I've been watching Rob Anderson's recaps on social media and those women were criminal,' another commented. A third wrote, 'Joan Steffend's voice is so calming. I completely understand how she hypnotized homeowners not to riot after her interior decorators destroyed their homes.' A fourth commented, 'Those shows were hilarious for the viewers, but devastating for the poor souls who sacrificed their homes on the altar.' Since Decorating Cents wrapped in 2007, former host Steffend has turned her attention to projects outside of design. Now 70-years-old, Steffend is focused on being a grandmother to her four grandchildren. She's also a published author with two inspirational self-help books under her belt. Decorating Cents is currently available to stream on Discovery+.
