Maoists kill two tribal villagers in separate incidents in Bastar
Two tribal locals were brutally killed by Maoists in Bijapur district of Bastar division in Chhattisgarh on the intervening night of Monday.
Bastar police in a statement issued, said that the incident took place in Tarrem region when 4 to 5 unidentified, armed Maoists attacked and killed two men using sharp-edged weapons at villages located 6-8 kms apart, having a security camp in between.
The victims were accused of working as police informers and the violence was carried by two separate groups of Maoists.
The Maoists had dragged the victims out of their houses and murdered them in front of the villagers, police said.
The victims have been identified as Kawasi Joga (approximately 55 years old), a resident of village Chhutwai, and Manglu Kursam (approximately 50 years old) from village Bada Tarrem. Kawasi was killed at around 1030 pm and Manglu around 2.30 am.
Police officials from Bastar have confirmed receiving information about the incident and are currently verifying the details. A team of cops was sent to the remote village for probe.
Security forces have recovered handwrittenwritten leaflets from the spots of crime. One of leaflet, stained in blood, stated that Manglu was working as police informer and despite several warnings, he didn't abide by the instructions given, hence, killed.

The Jagargunda area committee of CPI (Maoists) claimed the responsibility of the killing. Another leaflet by Pamed area committee stated the same for deceased Kawasi.
With back-to-backto back incidents of violence and killings in past six months, Bijapur and Narayanpur districts of Bastar division are on the top worst insurgency-affected places in the country, a CRPF official told TOI. He said, be it anti-Naxal operations, encounters, killing of civilians, recovery of blasting of IEDs, surrenders or arrests, two districts of Bastar are making it to the top in the list of insurgency.
Over ten civilians have been killed by Maoists in past 25 days including two school teachers in Bijapur district. Those on the target are mostly the relatives of surrendered cadres, or the surrendered ones themselves, or others are accused of working as police informers.
Local villagers are the among the easy accessible people for Maoists and are the most vulnerable ones, hence the threat of Maoists looms low upon those residing in interior regions of Bastar. Besides, the locals become victim to IEDs planted by Maoists to target security personnel.
On Sunday, a 16-year-old boy sustained severe injuries after coming in contact with a pressure IED that went off. He is presently receiving treatment and is in a poor condition.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha cabinet minister Krushna Chandra Patra has fallen prey to an alleged land fraud, leading to the registration of a cheating case against a property dealer in Dhenkanal district. According to an FIR filed by Patra at Town police station in Dhenkanal on Saturday, he had transferred Rs 25 lakh to Niranjan Satpathy in 2021 to purchase a plot of land in Banasingh area of Dhenkanal district. Satpathy, however, neither transferred the property nor returned the money to Patra. "Based on my complaint, police are investigating the case. The incident occurred in 2021 when I was not an MLA. I was then working as a director in a company and had planned to purchase land. I gave the money to Satpathy, but he reneged on the land deal," the food supplies & consumer welfare minister said on Monday. The complaint read that Satpathy contacted Patra through an intermediary in 2021, offering land at an attractive price. Satpathy presented land documents and claimed the property belonged to someone who was eager to sell, subsequently collecting Rs 25 lakh from Patra. The minister had sent a legal notice to Satpathy seeking repayment, but to no avail. "Following repeated demands, Satpathy made an undertaking to pay the amount by Nov 30, 2024, but he retracted. Though he promised to refund the entire money by the end of Jan, he failed again," Patra stated in the FIR. Further verification by Patra revealed that Satpathy neither possessed land nor had any arrangements with landowners, indicating his intention to deceive. "He has failed to return my money. This act has caused me financial distress and mental grief. By taking advantage of my simplicity, he cheated me. I request that immediate action be taken against him," the FIR copy read. Dhenkanal town police inspector Prabhat Sahoo said they are verifying the minister's allegation. "We have issued summons to the suspect to face interrogation. Woman uses false rape case to force man to return money
Lucknow: On Monday morning, an affidavit filed at the Jhansi district court revealed the misuse of criminal allegations of rape and molestation to settle a financial dispute. The matter involved two individuals, one of whom was nearing retirement by the end of July and had previously engaged in a monetary transaction. Since the borrower is a govt servant, his retirement benefits would have stopped if he was not cleared of accusation of sexual harassment of women at workplace under the Vishaka guidelines. Despite repeated requests, the borrower had failed to return the money, leading to escalating tensions. Driven by desperation to recover unpaid dues, the lender, a widow had filed a written complaint against the man (borrower), alleging molestation and rape. Two, including US national, held for trying to convert people by offering financial help
Pune: Two men — a 41-year-old US national and a Pimpri resident — were arrested on Sunday night on the charge of trying to convert people by offering financial help. Sachin Hire, assistant commissioner of the Pimpri Chinchwad police, said the US national, Schaefer Javin Jacob of California, currently residing at Mukai Chowk in Kiwale, and Steven Kadam (46) of Ajmera Pimpri were charged under sections 299 (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The US national was also booked under the relevant sections of the Foreigners Act for violating visa norms. "We also detained a 16-year-old boy with the duo and handed him over to his mother," Hire said. Inspector Vijayanand Patil of the Pimpri police said the trio on Sunday morning went to the complainant's house and told him that he would get "happiness, peace, wealth, and good mental health" if he converted from his religion. "They also assured him of financial assistance in future after his conversion," Patil said.
