Despite their popularity, it's unclear if the company will continue producing one of its best-selling products. It's rumored that Nissan will discontinue the
Altima
in 2026. Altima haters everywhere are rejoicing at the thought of having fewer of these vehicles on the road.
But how did the Altima become so notorious?
A Punchline With Four Wheels
In a Facebook
Reel
, car lover Shadetreemotors jokingly accuses Nissan of lacking creativity in its designs.
'Watch out, everyone, it's springtime. That means the Altimas will become more aggressive and numerous,' Shadetreemotors jests while showing clips of broken down and damaged Altimas.

To help people stay safe out there, he compiled a list of all the Nissans you should look out for on the road. Fair warning, his list is highly unserious.
'Remember, Nissan doesn't make any car that isn't Altima based,' Shadetreemotors says in the reel.
As images of various models of damaged Nissans flash by, Shadetreemotors describes them as the Smalltima, Talltima (pickup truck), Crawltima (bigger truck), HVACinstalltima (white cargo van), Beckywe'regoingtothemalltima (pink SUV), and Recalltima (Nissan with a deployed airbag).
'Stay safe out there,' he warns.
One of the Most Dangerous Cars on the Road
Shadetreemotors may have been joking, but he does have a point about Altimas being dangerous.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an independent nonprofit dedicated to making vehicles and roads safer, conducted a study of driver deaths that occurred from 2018 to 2021. It found that the Nissan Altima has among the worst death rates. The Altima comes in at number nine for driver death and 14 for other driver death.
In contrast, the Nissan Pathfinder 2WD and Nissan Murano 2WD were among the safest for driver deaths. According to the study, the vehicles with the highest rate of driver deaths are:
Mitsubishi Mirage G4
Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback
Dodge Challenger 2WD
Hyundai Accent
Chevrolet Spark
Kia Rio sedan
Dodge Charger HEMI 2WD
Chevrolet Camaro convertible
Nissan Altima
Kia Forte
The study found the vehicles with the highest rates of other-driver deaths are:
Ram 3500 Crew Cab long bed 4WD
Dodge Charger HEMI 2WD
Ford F-350 Crew Cab 4WD
Ram 2500 Mega Cab 4WD
Kia Optima
Kia Rio sedan
Ram 2500 Crew Cab short bed 4WD
Ford F-250 Crew Cab 4WD
Dodge Charger 2WD

Why the Bad Rep?
The consensus on Altima drivers being reckless is so clear that there's even a term for it: 'Big Altima Energy.'
And despite having good safety ratings, from 2020-2022,
The Autopian
reports that Altimas had a
crash claim rate
45% above average and more than double the average rate of personal injury and medical payment claims for midsize sedans.
One Redditor shared
why they think
this may be the case. They think it has to do with the drivers, not the car.
'Nissans are heavily used in the rental market and resold cheaply—who buys cheap cars?' they wrote. 'Poor people and those with bad driving records who can't get financing. People working delivery jobs, or multiple jobs—both with an elevated risk for accidents. I mean—any other vehicle could slot right in if used the same way.'
Commenters React
People were highly amused by Shadetreemotors' take on Nissans.
'I saw this a year ago and always laugh to myself whenever I see an HVAC Installtima,' a top comment reads.
'My dads Altima is called the Assaultima. I named it,' one person shared.
'I'm a dealer, the one and only Altima I got had a bullet hole in it,' another wrote.
'Nissan Altimas always have the right of way…. Whoever is less afraid to get into an accident will always have the right of way,' a commenter said.
Via direct message, Shadetreemotors told

Nissan is a terrible car company and all their cars are based on one terrible car."
"As a mechanic I can confidently say not one of their current cars is remotely reliable."

Ranking The 5 Cheapest Trucks In America
As much as small sedans and crossovers are the most affordable new cars in America, some people simply can't do without a pickup truck. Be it for towing, off-roading, or transporting larger or awkwardly-shaped items, pickups are hard to beat. But if you can't afford one of the most expensive new trucks in America, we've put together a list of the cheapest ones, ranked from most to least expensive. Only the cheapest derivative of each truck has been included, and the prices indicated below exclude the destination charge and any options. Finally, as pricing changes regularly, these are the cheapest new pickups at the time of publishing. Related: New Study Reveals What Buyers Really Want In A Budget Car One of three mid-size pickups on this list, Nissan's trusty Frontier starts at just over $32k for the King Cab in basic S guise (note that the crew cab Pro-4X is pictured above). Like other Frontiers, this variant has a 3.8-liter V6 engine making 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with four-wheel drive optional. A nine-speed automatic transmission is standard. In 4x2 guise, this pickup can tow up to 7,150 pounds. Base S specification includes the following standard features: 16-inch steel wheels with painted finishHalogen headlightsBlack grille and door handlesFour-person seatingFour-speaker sound systemEight-inch color touchscreenWired Apple CarPlay/Android AutoBlind-spot warningRear parking sensorsRear automatic braking With its rugged looks and ample power, this is a solid workhorse, yet it still has enough amenities for comfortable daily use. The absence of forced induction and electrification should improve long-term reliability. Sticking with mid-size pickups, the cheapest Colorado starts at only $150 less than the Frontier. Unlike the Nissan, this is a Crew Cab with proper rear doors, so rear-seat access will be effortless. RWD is standard and 4WD optional, and this model gets GM's 2.7-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, known as the TurboMax. It makes 310 hp and 430 lb-ft; that torque figure dwarfs the Frontier's N/A V6, and the Chevy can also tow up to 7,700 lbs. The following features are standard on the Colorado WT: 17-inch steel wheelsHalogen headlights11.3-inch LCD displaySix-speaker sound systemWireless Apple CarPlay/Android AutoSingle-zone manual climate controlAutomatic emergency brakingRear cross-traffic brakingBlind-zone steering assist Although it has the same basic look as the Frontier, the Colorado looks like a better buy with its Crew Cab, superior torque, and better towing. But if you want a V6, the Nissan is the winner. Like the Frontier, Toyota's cheapest mid-size pickup has the same cab layout, but Toyota refers to it as an XtraCab. A 2.4-liter turbocharged four-pot is standard, and it makes 228 hp and 243 lb-ft; that's some way short of its Nissan and Chevy rivals at this price point. RWD is standard and 4WD is optional, while the Tacoma has an eight-speed automatic. Towing for this model is 3,500 lbs, which is less than half that of the Nissan and Chevy. These are the standard features on the Tacoma SR XtraCab: 17-inch steel wheelsLED headlights and LED bed lightingEight-inch touchscreenFour-speaker sound systemWireless Apple CarPlay/Android AutoFull-speed adaptive cruise controlLane departure warningRoad sign assist LED exterior lighting aside, the Toyota isn't much better equipped than the cheaper Nissan and Chevy. However, that Toyota badge counts for a lot, which is the main reason to choose this model over its rivals. This is the first entry in the compact pickup segment, and also the first one on our list with unibody construction. In entry-level SE form (the Limited is pictured above), the Santa Cruz has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 191 hp and 181 lb-ft. FWD is standard and AWD is optional, and it has an eight-speed automatic. With trailer brakes, the Santa Cruz is capable of towing up to 3,500 lbs. It's more comfortable to drive than any of the preceding pickups, though. By dipping into the compact truck segment, buyers do get more features for the money, at the expense of capability. The Santa Cruz SE gets these features as standard: 18-inch alloy wheelsProjector bi-LED headlights and LED DRLsLockable under-bed storage compartment12.3-inch touchscreen displayWireless Apple CarPlay/Android AutoBlind-spot collision warningRear cross-traffic alertDriver attention warning Standard alloys, a bigger infotainment screen, and sportier looks make the base Santa Cruz feel a lot less utilitarian than the other trucks here. If you don't need to tow more than it can handle, it'll be a better daily driver. And so we arrive at the cheapest new truck on sale right now, which is the Ford Maverick XL. It's quite a bit pricier than it was, but it's still the cheapest new truck on sale. The standard hybrid powertrain produces just 191 hp, but the upside is its combined consumption of 38 mpg, better than any other pickup. For only $125 more, you can get the 250-hp turbocharged model, which also replaces the CVT with an eight-speed automatic. FWD is standard, and this compact unibody truck can tow up to 4,000 lbs, but only with the tow package. The following features are standard: 17-inch steel wheelsLED reflector headlightsSingle-zone air conditioningEight-inch productivity screen and 13.2-inch touchscreenWireless Apple CarPlay/Android AutoSix-speaker sound systemAutomatic emergency brakingAutomatic high beams Although the Maverick XL doesn't have as many driver-assist features as the other trucks here, you can add the Ford Co-Pilot360 pack for $795, which adds blind-spot monitoring, reverse sensors, lane-keep alert, and more. Given its price and excellent efficiency, this is the most affordable pickup to buy and run (in hybrid form). At least, that's until the Slate electric pickup arrives, which promises an even lower starting price. Related: I Drove the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz & 2025 Ford Maverick, Which One is Best? I'm 26 and recently came into $50K. I've got a $27K car loan — should I pay that off or invest all the money?
A financial windfall in your 20s presents both a challenge and a powerful opportunity to build wealth early. Let's say you're 26, with no credit card debt, a $27,000 car loan at 8% interest, and minimal monthly expenses beyond rent and insurance. After taxes, you have $36,000 left over from the windfall to do what you want with. The decisions you make now could shape your financial future. So, what should you do with the money? I'm 49 years old and have nothing saved for retirement — what should I do? Don't panic. Here are 6 of the easiest ways you can catch up (and fast) Thanks to Jeff Bezos, you can now become a landlord for as little as $100 — and no, you don't have to deal with tenants or fix freezers. Here's how Want an extra $1,300,000 when you retire? Dave Ramsey says this 7-step plan 'works every single time' to kill debt, get rich in America — and that 'anyone' can do it Since you have $27,000 in car loan debt, paying off your $27,000 car loan might feel like the most obvious choice to make — especially since you have a fairly high interest rate at 8%. It makes good financial sense. Eliminating the debt would earn you an immediate 8% return on your money with zero risk. That's especially appealing since auto loan interest isn't tax-deductible. Let's say that you originally borrowed $32,000 on your car at 8% using a 48-month loan, and you have 40 months left to pay with a balance of $27,348.42. If you paid off your full balance next month, you'd save around $3,899.01 in interest. Getting the definite 8% ROI from avoiding auto loan interest is likely worthwhile. You could then redirect your former monthly car payment into savings or investments. Given how high the interest rate is on the auto loan, paying off the car loan might be the best decision, but you could choose to keep making payments on your vehicle and instead invest all $36,000 of the windfall. Alternatively, you could pay off the car loan, and then invest the remaining $8,651. Either way, putting at least part of the windfall into the market can help your money grow. Although the stock market isn't risk-free, you can generally expect around a 10% average annual return over the long term by investing in an S&P 500 index fund. Read more: Americans are 'revenge saving' to survive — but millions only get a measly 1% on their savings. Whether you choose to pay off the car or invest part of the money, there are other important financial considerations, too. For example: Retirement contributions: If you haven't maxed out your 401(k) or IRA for the year, consider using the windfall to boost your long-term savings. Emergency fund: Having three to six months of living expenses in a dedicated fund can protect you in case of a job loss or unexpected expense. Short-term savings goals: If you're planning to buy a home or make another big purchase in the near future, you may want to keep some of the money in a high-yield savings account.* It may also be worth speaking with a financial advisor to create a personalized strategy, especially when dealing with a large sum of money at a young age. With the right approach, a $50,000 windfall could be more than just a lucky break — it could be the foundation for a stronger financial future. This tiny hot Costco item has skyrocketed 74% in price in under 2 years — but now the retail giant is restricting purchases. Here's how to buy the coveted asset in bulk Here are the 6 levels of wealth for retirement-age Americans — are you near the top or bottom of the pyramid? Rich, young Americans are ditching the stormy stock market — here are the alternative assets they're banking on instead Here are 5 'must have' items that Americans (almost) always overpay for — and very quickly regret. Ford's Recall Affects Almost Every Cool Car They Make, and There's No Fix Yet
If you've recently bought one of Ford's best-selling vehicles, like the wildly popular Bronco, the workhorse F-150, or the family-hauling Explorer, the company has some unsettling news for you. Ford is recalling a staggering 850,318 of its most iconic models worldwide, including 844,098 in the U.S. alone, from the 2021-2023 model years due to a defect that can cause the engine to suddenly stall while driving. But the real kicker in this massive safety recall isn't just the danger of your engine cutting out on the highway. It's that Ford has admitted it doesn't have a solution yet, and has ordered its dealers to immediately stop selling or even demonstrating the affected vehicles. 'The remedy is under development,' the company plainly states in several documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). According to an urgent 'DELIVERY HOLD' notice sent on July 8 to all U.S. dealers, the problem lies with a faulty low-pressure fuel pump that can fail unexpectedly. The consequence is blunt and dangerous: 'An engine stall while driving increases the risk of a crash.' The notice warns dealers they could face civil penalties of up to $27,168 per vehicle if they deliver an unremedied car. The list of affected vehicles, now frozen on dealership lots, reads like a who's who of Ford's modern lineup: For current owners, the new documents provide critical information about what to watch for. Ford says that before a total failure, a driver might experience poor engine performance (like misfiring or running rough), a check engine light, or a sudden reduction in engine power. The failure is reportedly more likely to occur in 'warm weather' or when the vehicle has a low level of fuel. For the nearly one million owners of these vehicles, the path forward is frustratingly unclear. Ford plans to send out initial notification letters to owners around July 14, 2025, to inform them of the safety risk. However, a second letter will have to be sent once an actual fix is engineered and available. This leaves hundreds of thousands of drivers in a state of limbo, aware that their vehicle has a potentially critical flaw but with no immediate action to take. This recall represents a significant blow to the automaker, highlighting a critical failure in a component used across its most profitable and popular vehicles. For now, concerned owners can contact Ford's customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or visit the NHTSA website for updates, but the only real answer they're looking for—how to fix it—is one Ford can't yet provide.
