Tata Steel advances green steelmaking plans through major crane project
UK has taken another major step in its journey to produce green steel, with a new contract awarded to
JASO Industrial Cranes
, a leading manufacturer of process cranes globally. As part of Tata Steel's 1.25 billion pound investment in
sustainable steel production
at Port Talbot in the UK, JASO will supply seven high-capacity process girder cranes to support the operation of the plant's
Electric Arc Furnace
(EAF) facility.
When fully operational in 2028, Tata Steel's Electric Arc Furnace will be one of the largest in the world and reduce the site's carbon emissions by 90 per cent - equivalent to five million tonnes of CO2 a year.
Key components of the contract with JASO Cranes include 500-tonne capacity cranes for handling liquid steel ladles, essential for the efficient operation of the new steelmaking facility, two 80-tonne scrap cranes to feed the Electric Arc Furnace via an integrated conveyor system, ensuring a steady supply of raw materials, and two 35-tonne cranes for electrode maintenance, supporting the ongoing operation of the plant's advanced equipment.

Stuart Lloyd, Project Manager for the Cranes Project, said: "We are excited to strengthen our longstanding partnership with JASO on this crucial part of our 1.25 billion pound transformation.

India-based Tata Steel owns the UK's largest steelworks of 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) at Port Talbot in South Wales and employs around 8,000 people across all its operations in that country.
As part of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions, the company is transitioning from the blast furnace route to the low-emission electric arc furnace process, which will utilise the locally available scrap.

Shock media closure deals new blow to press freedom in Balkans
Nearly 14 years after presenting the first newscast of Al Jazeera Balkans , Sasa Delic, like his 250 colleagues, learned of the channel's closure in a shock announcement. The Bosnian journalist inaugurated the new network on November 11, 2011, telling viewers: "You are watching the first news channel in the region," and promising them "accurate, verified and impartial" information. But on July 10, management suddenly announced the Qatari-based channel's regional branch was closing, the latest in a wave of closures and downsizing to hit the Balkans' strained media industry. "I had no idea," Delic, 47, told AFP. "It was sudden, but you have to adapt. It's the owner's decision." Two days later, his colleague Dalija Hasanbegovic gave the channel's farewell sign-off: "That was the final Al Jazeera Balkans newscast. "We always tried to be the voice of those who didn't have one, an island of truth." - 'Silencing the last voices' - Claiming more than 22 million viewers, "AJB" broadcast across most of the Balkans, with studios in Belgrade, Sarajevo and Zagreb. "We never adhered to anyone's political agenda," said Delic, who added he fears the closure will hurt strained media freedoms in the region. Independent media in the Balkans are increasingly rare, and some, like the N1 channel, are not distributed by public or government-affiliated cable operators. As these outlets shrink, many journalists will leave the profession, Sever warned. "Those who ask questions are leaving, those who think independently are leaving. Who, then, will ask a question to a prime minister or a president at a press conference? Algorithms? Artificial intelligence?" she said.

Laurus Labs Q1FY26 net surges 1154 pc to Rs 163 cr
Hyderabad, July 25 (UNI) Laurus Labs, a leading research and development driven pharmaceutical and biotech company in India, on Friday posted a net profit of Rs 163 crore in Q1FY26, up 1154 per cent Y-o-Y as compared to Rs 13 crore in the same period last year. Revenue during the period increased by 31 percent to Rs 1,570 crore as against Rs 1195 crore during the corresponding period in the previous year, the Hyderabad-based Pharma company said in a release here. Commenced construction of new Gene/ADC facility in Hyderabad (Telangana) while Fermentation manufacturing site (Vizag) build up on track as planned and expect the facility to commence operations by 2026 end, the release said.
