Fermanagh shooting: two people dead as two others seriously injured
Police are currently attending the scene of a shooting in the Drummeer Road area of Maguiresbridge in Co Fermanagh, according to a statement from the
Police Service of Northern Ireland
(PSNI).
The PSNI confirmed that two people had died, and two people were being treated in hospital for serious injuries, following the shooting. The police service said there was 'no ongoing risk to the public'.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service dispatched three emergency ambulances, one rapid response paramedic, two ambulance officers and an ambulance doctor to the scene.

One of the injured was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast by air ambulance and another to South West Acute Hospital by ambulance.
Sinn Féin MP Pat Cullen has expressed her deep shock following the reports of the shootings.
The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MP said her thoughts are 'with the victims and their families at this tragic time,'
'Police are currently at the scene of an incident outside Maguiresbridge and there are a number of road closures while they carry out their investigations.
'I would urge people to not speculate on the details of this tragic and shocking incident,' she said.

‘I'm lost for what to say': Fermanagh village in shock after three killed in house
It is the most beautiful of rural roads, quiet and tree-lined. The only sounds are the barking of a dog and the voices of television correspondents filing their reports for the evening news. It was here, in a large, detached house around a mile outside the village of Maguiresbridge, Co Fermanagh , that the 'very harrowing' events of Wednesday morning happened. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said it received a call from inside the property at about 7.50am. When they arrived, two people were dead and two others seriously injured. They were all members of the same family and all had sustained gunshot wounds. One of the injured died in hospital in Enniskillen on Wednesday afternoon. It is understood the victims were two children and their mother, who was in her 40s. READ MORE The other individual, an adult male, remains in a serious condition in hospital in Belfast . A murder investigation has been launched and one line of inquiry is that this was a triple murder and an attempted suicide. The names of the victims have not yet been released and, speaking to reporters at a press conference in Enniskillen PSNI station, local police commander Robert McGowan said not all family members had been briefed. He said: 'This tragic event will have sent shockwaves of sadness through the community.' The local GAA club, St Mary's Maguiresbridge, offered 'heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those impacted by this tragic incident which happened in our community'. It said the victims were 'active and beloved members' of the club. Dean Kenneth Hall, bishop's commissary in the diocese of Clogher, said 'the whole community has been shocked and saddened . . . we ask that the family circle of those affected will be kept in our thoughts and prayers'. Elected representatives from both sides of the political divide also expressed their condolences. MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, Sinn Féin's Pat Cullen, spent much of the day in the village. Similarly, DUP Assembly member Deborah Erskine was present for much of the day there. On Wednesday evening, forensic officers in white suits could be seen examining a car parked across the road and another in the garden of the property on Drummeer Road. The road remained closed, with tape and a police car acting as a blockade. A number of uniformed police officers were present at the scene. Many locals were reluctant to speak about what happened, with some saying they found it difficult to express the feeling of shock and sadness in the village. 'It's so sad, just so sad,' said one woman. 'Such tragic circumstances – it's the kind of thing you never think could happen.' 'Everyone is saying the same thing, that they're shocked but don't really know what else to say,' said Daniel, a local man. 'It's a strange feeling, like nobody really knows how to feel. 'I've spoken to enough people about this today, I'm lost for what to say any more. Every shop you go into, people are talking about it.' Another man said: 'I'm just shocked. What else can you say? It's just an awful tragedy.'

Emotional scenes in Idaho court as ‘delusional, pathetic loser' sentenced to life for murder of four students
Friends and relatives of four University of Idaho students in the US who were murdered in their rental home by Bryan Kohberger delivered powerful statements of love, anguish and condemnation as his sentencing hearing took place. 'This world was a better place with her in it,' Scott Laramie, the stepfather of Madison Mogen, told the court. 'Karen and I are ordinary people, but we lived extraordinary lives because we had Maddie.' The father of Kaylee Goncalves taunted Kohberger for leaving his DNA behind and getting caught despite being a graduate student in criminology at nearby Washington State University at the time. 'You were that careless, that foolish, that stupid,' Steve Goncalves said. 'Master's degree? You're a joke.' READ MORE Judge Steven Hippler ordered Kohberger to serve four life sentences without parole for four counts of first-degree murder in the brutal stabbing deaths of Ms Mogen, Ms Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin early on November 13th, 2022. He was also given a 10-year sentence for burglary. The defendant pleaded guilty earlier this month, just weeks before his trial was due to start, in a deal to avoid the death penalty. Kohberger broke into the home through a kitchen sliding door and brutally stabbed the four friends, who appeared to have no connection with him. No motive has been offered, and Kohberger chose not to speak at the hearing. Dylan Mortensen, a roommate who told police of seeing a strange man with bushy eyebrows and a ski mask in the home that night, sobbed as she described how Kohberger, seated across the room in an orange jumpsuit, 'took the light they carried into each room'. 'He is a hollow vessel, something less than human,' Ms Mortensen said. 'A body without empathy, without remorse.' Ms Mortensen and another surviving roommate, Bethany Funke, described crippling panic attacks and anxiety after the attack. 'I slept in my parents' room for almost a year, and had them double lock every door, set an alarm, and still check everywhere in the room just in case someone was hiding,' Ms Funke wrote in a statement read by a friend. 'I have not slept through a single night since this happened. She drew applause after belittling Kohberger, who remained expressionless as she insulted him. 'You didn't win, you just exposed yourself as the coward you are,' Ms Goncalves said. 'You're a delusional, pathetic, hypochondriac loser.' Kohberger's mother and sister also attended the hearing, sitting in the gallery near the defence table. His mother quietly wept at times as the other parents described their grief. She sobbed briefly when Madison Mogen's grandmother said that her heart goes out to the other families, including Kohberger's. Xana Kernodle's aunt, Kim Kernodle, said she forgave Kohberger and asked him to call her from prison, hoping he would answer her lingering questions about the killings. 'Bryan, I'm here today to tell you I have forgiven you, because I no longer could live with that hate in my heart,' she said. 'And for me to become a better person, I have forgiven you. And any time you want to talk and tell me what happened, get my number. I'm here. No judgment.' Police initially had no suspects in the killings, which terrified the rural western Idaho city of Moscow. Some students at both universities left mid-semester, taking the rest of their classes online because they felt unsafe. A knife sheath left near Ms Mogen's body had a single source of male DNA on the button snap, investigators said, and surveillance videos showed a white Hyundai Elantra near the rental home around the time of the murders. Police used genetic genealogy to identify Kohberger as a possible suspect and accessed mobile phone data to pinpoint his movements on the night of the killings. Online shopping records showed Kohberger had purchased a military-style knife months earlier, along with a sheath like the one found at the rental home. Kohberger was arrested in Pennsylvania about six weeks after the killings.

Fermanagh shooting: third person dies, another remains in hospital
A third person has died following a shooting in Co Fermanagh. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said they died in hospital this afternoon. A fourth individual remains in hospital, where their condition is described as serious. Police remain at the scene of the shooting at the Drummeer Road area of Maguiresbridge. I have no doubt that the people of Maguiresbridge will come together and support one another through this incredibly difficult time,' she said on social media website X.
