'No requirement': Centre after news agency Reuters' X account witheld in India
'There is no requirement from the Government of India to withhold Reuters handle. We are continuously working with X to resolve the problem,' a government spokesperson said.

Sources quoted in a PTI news agency report said the government had legally demanded the withholding of the Reuters X account and several others during Operation Sindoor in May. While many were withheld, Reuters remained accessible.
The social media giant seems to have acted on that request and blocked Reuters' X handle in India. Since the issue isn't relevant now, the government has asked X to explain the blocking and lift the embargo.
"An order was issued on May 7 (during Operation Sindoor) but it was not enforced. X seems to have enforced that order now which is a mistake on their part. Government has reached out to X for resolving it at the earliest," PTI quoted an official source as saying.
Are all Reuters handles withheld in India?
Reuters's official X handle, along with Reuters World, remains inaccessible in India, while all the affiliated handles on the social media platform, such as Reuters Tech News, Reuters Fact Check, Reuters Asia, and Reuters China, can be accessed.
X users attempting to access the main account can see a message that reads: "Account withheld. @ Reuters has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand."
The social media company has an explainer about such messages on its help center page titled "About country withheld content". The message means X was compelled to withhold the entire account specified or posts in response to a valid legal demand, such as a court order or local laws.

SYDNEY, July 7 (Reuters) - The Australian and New Zealand dollars started a big central bank week on the back foot as investors braced for U.S. trade uncertainty that could linger for weeks now that there appears to be a delay in the tariff implementation date. The Aussie fell 0.5% on Monday to $0.6522, the lowest level in a week. It ended last week just 0.3% higher, with resistance heavy at an eight-month top of $0.6590. "If we do get the letters this week, then August 1 is the deadline as opposed to the midnight on the day that (they) send them out. That ostensibly leaves some wiggle room for negotiations... but what it is going to do is wreck markets with uncertainty," said Ray Attrill, head of FX strategy at the National Australia Bank. Indeed, shares fell across Asia, with Wall Street futures down about 0.5%. The two Antipodeans are often sold as proxies for risk assets. Down Under, it is a big week for central banks, with both Australia and New Zealand set to announce their latest policy decisions. Markets have almost fully priced in a rate cut from the Reserve Bank of Australia on Tuesday with a 95% probability. Analysts at ING said as RBA turns more dovish, it could hinder gains in the Australian dollar versus other major currencies, although against the greenback, it remains a U.S. tariff story. RTI reveals vlogger held for spying visited Kerala on government invite; sparks row
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Haryana-based vlogger Jyoti Malhotra, who was recently arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan, had visited Kerala on the invitation of the state government as part of its efforts to promote tourism, it has emerged. The revelation, which came in the form of an RTI reply, has triggered controversy with criticism being raised from various corners against the government decision. Jyoti was arrested on May 16, a few days after 'Operation Sindoor'. According to the RTI document, Jyoti was among 41 social media influencers enlisted by the tourism department from January 1, 2024, to May 21, 2025, to promote state tourism. She visited Kannur, Kozhikode, Kochi, Alappuzha and Munnar, with the state government bearing her expenses and paying a remuneration. Reacting to the development, Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas said the vloggers were brought to boost Kerala's tourism prospects. 'We had good intentions. Everyone knows that. Do you think the state government invited her for spying and provided all assistance?' the minister asked.

Washington: The feud between Donald Trump and Elon Musk escalated further on Sunday after the US President slammed his estranged ally for launching a new political party. In a post on his Truth Social platform, the Republican said the Tesla and SpaceX boss was becoming a "TRAIN WRECK" and that a third political party "never succeeds" in the US, referring to Mr Musk's "America Party". "I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely 'off the rails,' essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks. He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States - The System seems not designed for them," President Trump said. He said the one thing third parties are good for is the creation of "complete and total DISRUPTION and CHAOS". Speaking to reporters shortly before his post, he said it was "ridiculous" to start a third party. "It's always been a two-party system, and I think starting a third party just adds to confusion. Third parties have never worked. So he can have fun with it, but I think it's ridiculous," he said. In his Truth Social post, President Trump also slammed Mr Musk for opposing his " one big beautiful bill", which was signed into law last week. "It is a Great Bill but, unfortunately for Elon, it eliminates the ridiculous Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, which would have forced everyone to buy an Electric Car in a short period of time," he said. He said he has been "strongly" opposing the EV mandate from the "very beginning". "I have campaigned on this for two years and, quite honestly, when Elon gave me his total and unquestioned Endorsement, I asked him whether or not he knew that I was going to terminate the EV Mandate - It was in every speech I made, and in every conversation I had. He said he had no problems with that - I was very surprised," he wrote. He also attacked Mr Musk for recommending his "blue-blooded Democrat" friend for leading NASA.
