Manipur begins exercise to prepare database for persons displaced by ongoing conflict
Deputy commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh of Imphal West District, in a notice on Wednesday, said the government of Manipur is conducting an exercise of capturing data of IDPs residing in the state through a portal developed by the IT department.
'This exercise will cover both the categories of IDPs staying in the relief camps as well as those staying at various places outside the relief camps,'the notice said.

As part of this exercise, the district administration Imphal West has started and is in near completion of capturing the data of the IDPs staying at the various relief camps of Imphal West district, it added.
It also stated that all the IDPs residing outside the relief camps of Imphal West district to contact the
concerned authorities to facilitate the capturing of details of the IDPs within a week's time, latest by June 25,2025.
More than 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and adjoining hills-based Kuki Zo groups in Manipur since May 2023.
Since then, most of the displaced people are staying in relief camps across the state while some are taking shelter outside the state.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the Dalai Lama on his 90th birthday on July 6, calling him an 'enduring symbol of love'. In a post on social media platform X, Modi said: 'I join 1.4 billion Indians in extending our warmest wishes to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his 90th birthday. He has been an enduring symbol of love, compassion, patience and moral discipline. His message has inspired respect and admiration across all faiths. We pray for his continued good health and long life.' This is not the first time that Modi has wished the Dalai Lama on his birthday. Last year on his 89th birthday, Modi wished him a quick recovery from his knee surgery. Simmering tensions In 2023 too, Modi had wished the Tibetan spiritual leader on social media. Modi's birthday wish to the Dalai Lama this year, however, comes at a time when tensions between India and China are still simmering over the issue of who will choose the successor of the current Dalai Lama. While the Dalai Lama has said that only the India-based Gaden Phodrang Trust founded by him can decide on his successor, China has claimed that it has authority to do so. Tensions further aggravated earlier this week, when India's Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, and Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, said that 'no one has the right to interfere or decide' on who the Dalai Lama's successor would be. 'Only he or his institution has the authority to make that decision. His followers believe that deeply. It's important for disciples across the world that he decides his succession,' he was quoted as saying. In response to these remarks, China's foreign ministry warned India on July 4 against interfering in its domestic affairs at the expense of bilateral relations, as The Wire had reported. Chirag Paswan criticises own government in Bihar: 'Gopal Khemka's murder worrying'
Union minister Chirag Paswan on Sunday criticised the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar over the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna's Gandhi Maidan area. Paswan called Gopal Khemka's murder "worrying" and said strict action needs to be taken to set a precedent. Khemka's murder comes seven years after miscreants had gunned down his son in Hajipur. Following the murder, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar convened a meeting on Saturday to review the law and order situation and instructed officials concerned to complete the investigation into the killing of Khemka at the earliest. The Congress leader also asserted that in the upcoming polls, the vote will not be just to change the government, but to save the state. Tejashwi also attacked the NDA government saying that law and order has collapsed in Bihar and went on to claim that the state has witnessed "65,000 murders" in the last couple of decades.
