Tamil Nadu History Congress urges Centre to immediately release Keeladi reports

The Hindu12-06-2025
The Tamil Nadu History Congress on Wednesday urged the Union government to immediately release reports submitted to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) by archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna, who headed two phases of excavations in Keeladi in the Sivaganga district.
In a statement, S.S. Sundaram, general secretary, Tamil Nadu History Congress, said over two years, Mr. Ramakrishna excavated several artifacts at Keeladi that were scientifically tested in various labs in the U.S. and in India. Results confirmed the existence of an advanced urban Tamil civilisation dating back 2,600 years.
Despite this, Mr. Ramakrishna was abruptly transferred to Assam, and a subsequent report in 2017 claimed little archaeological potential remained, recommending closure of the excavation. Then the State Archaeology Department resumed the excavations and unearthed over 5,800 artifacts, including several with Tamil-Brahmi script, he said, adding that the Centre, without any further delay, should release the Keeladi report.

Nadda inaugurates six BJP offices in Delhi and Haryana

BJP ideologue Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee never clung to positions of power but remained unwavering in his commitment to ideology and even sacrificed his life for it, party national president and Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said on Sunday (July 6, 2025). Mr. Nadda was addressing party workers and leaders after digitally inaugurating six new party offices in Delhi and Haryana. Speaking on the occasion, he pointed out that the day carried an emotional significance to the BJP, as it coincidentally marked the birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee. Emphasising Mookerjee's unwavering commitment to ideology, Mr. Nadda said, "He never compromised on his beliefs. India will always remain indebted to him, especially for his role in ensuring that West Bengal remained a part of the country." The Union Minister further highlighted India's strong stance on national security, referring to the surgical strikes after Uri and airstrikes after Pulwama. Citing the terror attacks that killed 26 people at Pahalgam in April, he noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed a response "beyond imagination", which led to Operation Sindoor that destroyed nine terrorist camps in Pakistan. Mr. Nadda congratulated BJP workers, who "made history" by helping to form a party government in Delhi after 27 years and to secure a third consecutive term in Haryana.

L-G Sinha, Union Minister Goyal pay tributes to Syama Prasad on 124th birth anniversary in Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Textiles Piyush Goyal on Sunday (July 6, 2025) lauded the role of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, for integrating J&K into India on his 124th birth anniversary. J&K L-G Sinha announced to launch a two-year celebratory campaign to honour the life and legacy of Dr. Mookerjee and his role in strengthening national unity and advocating 'One Nation, One Constitution' for a brighter future of J&K. 'Mookerjee Ji was one of the key architects of modern India and a visionary statesman, educationist and fearless Parliamentarian whose ideals continue to shape the destiny of India,' L-G Sinha said. He said Mookerjee sacrificed his life for unification of J&K with India and was a proponent of 'One Nation, One Constitution, One Symbol' and opposed Article 370. 'His martyrdom in Srinagar while fighting for J&K's complete integration, remained a defining moment in the nation's history. Prime Minister Narendra Modi fulfilled Mookerjee's dream 66 years after his martyrdom,' he added. Recalling the role of Mookerjee in integrating J&K into India, Union Minister Goyal said the Centre's decision of August 5, 2019 to do away with Article 370 and 35A finally led to the complete integration of J&K into India as envisaged by him. 'Mookerjee quit the Jawaharlal Nehru government as a Minister in 1953. He visited J&K without a permit and died under mysterious circumstances. His sacrifice, however, did not go to waste. After August 5, 2019, all laws are applicable in J&K,' he said. Mookerji died in a jail in J&K 1953 during the government of then J&K Prime Minister Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah. No regional party or ruling National Conference attended any function organised for the Jan Sangh leader. Mr. Goyal also praised people of Kashmir for standing against terrorism and lending support to the 'Operation Sindoor'', which India launched after the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead. 'People of J&K showed to the world that such terror attacks will not make this place stop. This terror attack was not only on tourists but also on the economy of J&K. Pakistan was given a strong reply through the 'Operation Sindoor' for supporting terrorists. Like Maoism, we will end terrorism too with the help of Kashmiris. There is a mismatch between what Pakistan says and does. Pakistan needs to take concrete measures against terrorists and their infrastructure and hand over wanted terrorists to India to prove they mean what they say,' Mr. Goyal added. Meanwhile, the Union Minister, during a separate function in Srinagar, said the Union Territory will soon get a dedicated design and packaging hub and a state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence to boost the industrial and agricultural sectors. 'The Omar Abdullah government in J&K and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government at the Centre will jointly work towards reviving tourism and trade in the UT,' Mr. Goyal said. He embarked on measures to integrate J&K into national and global markets through value addition and sustainable development models. 'We are exploring a public-private partnership model to make the Centre of Excellence a hub of new technologies, product research, packaging design, and food processing solutions,' he said. He said his Ministry was exploring solar rooftop installations at the industrial estate in Lassipora, Pulwama, which has 10 lakh square feet of built-up space. 'If we use green energy for production, our exports can get premium value as certified eco-friendly products,' he said. He also underlined that there was a need to maintain a minimum import price of ₹75 on imported apples with a 50% duty to ensure Kashmiri apples remain competitive. 'We import apples worth ₹140 crore. But our own growers should not suffer. This must be a win-win for farmers and consumers,' he said.

Toning up party from booth level our mission: TG BJP chief

Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party Telangana unit president N Ramchander Rao, who assumed charge on Saturday, sought to galvanize the party unit by declaring: 'The mission ahead is to strengthen the party from the booth level and make its organizational structure stronger with the sole objective of bringing the party to power in Telangana.' Suiting action to his word, Rao addressed the media after visiting the house of the president of the polling booth no:97, Amarnath, in Lalapet on Sunday. He reiterated the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the party should win at booth level to register its win at the Assembly and Parliament levels and then said, 'BJP is an ideological and cadre-based party and cadre are the roots for the tree of the BJP… When the roots are stronger, the tree will be strong.' The former MLC said that he visited the booth level president to partake of tea and participated in a plantation programme to send the message that he, along with the state party leadership, will be standing behind the party cadre. 'Apart from coming from humble backgrounds, the cadre has made immense sacrifices for the party's progress. Together, the cadre and party leadership would work hard to bring the BJP to power in Telangana in the next state Assembly elections,' he asserted. Later, paying rich tributes to the party ideologue and Jana Sangh founder Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his birth anniversary at the state party headquarters, he said that all BJP leaders and cadre drew their inspiration from Mukherjee who had fought many battles at a young age and bravely took up the issue of integrating Jammu and Kashmir with India. 'He has gone down in history as a leader who fought to ensure that there should not be two Prime Ministers, two flags, and two constitutions in the country.' Though Shyama Prasad Mukherjee's death was shrouded in suspicious circumstances, his life had become a symbol of sacrifice and an epitome of courage. It was with the Mukherjees' inspiration that the Modi government abrogated Article 370, and the party and the nation paid tributes to the Mukherjees' sacrifice to unite J&K with India, he said. Further, he stressed, emulating the same spirit, the party is working on the principles of 'One Nation-One Law,' 'One Nation-One Ration Card,' and 'One Nation-One Election,' and every activist of the party should carry this spirit to work for the unity and integrity of the country, he said. Union Minister, G Kishan Reddy, BJP MP and OBC Morcha national president Dr K Laxman, and other senior party leaders joined Ramachandra Rao in paying tributes to Mukherjee on his birth anniversary.
