9 drug peddlers held with narcotics, Rs 20 lakh in J-K
A drug peddler was detained under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act in Kathua, while two shops of an alleged drug peddler were demolished in Rajeev Nagar of Jammu, they said.
A police spokesperson said a man and his son-in-law were arrested after 283 grams of heroin and Rs 20 lakh were recovered from their car during a check at Sikandarpur Kothey in Bishnah area in the outskirts of Jammu.
The son-in-law was identified as Sadiq Ali alias 'Jattu" of Marheen area of Kathua and the older man as Saif Ali alias 'Safu" of Bishnah.
An investigation is underway to trace the source and destination of the recovered contraband.
Three drug peddlers were arrested along with 10.5 kgs of poppy straw from a load carrier from Rehambal area of Udhampur district.
Two people riding on a motorcycle were arrested from Tikri after 8.77 grams of heroin was found on them, while another peddler was arrested with nearly 1 kg of ganja in his car in Kud area of Udhampur, the spokesperson said.
Another peddler was apprehended after 2.3 kg of ganja was recovered from him in Janipora locality of Jammu, he said.
Pankaj Sharma alias 'Panku", a notorious peddler and a resident of Billawar, was detained under the PIT-NDPS Act In Kathua district on the directions of Jammu divisional commissioner.
'Sharma is a repeated offender and had created a sense of fear in the public by his illegal activities. His detention under PITNDPS will send a strong message to other drug peddlers and anti-social elements," the spokesperson said. PTI TAS VN VN

ATM screw left loose after servicing, duo return to steal Rs12 lakh
Ghaziabad : Two ATM servicing staff were arrested for allegedly stealing over Rs 12 lakh from a machine one of them had previously accused, Suraj Narayan (33) and Sonu Rajput (34), both residents off Delhi, were nabbed near Vijay Nagar flyover on Saturday following a tip-off. Police recovered Rs 10.2 lakh in cash, three mobile phones, and a motorcycle used in the theft. According to DCP (city) Dhaval Jaiswal, the two men worked for different private companies that maintain ATM machines—Suraj with Tech Byte Company and Sonu with NCR Company. They met through Sonu's brother last year and initially collaborated to buy and resell ATM parts. Over time, that partnership evolved into a criminal conspiracy. Their plan began two months ago, targeting an ATM in Jassipura maintained by Sonu's company. While repairing the machine, Sonu deliberately left the latch's screws loose and later requested to be transferred from the site to avoid suspicion. The theft was then carried out over seven days. The theft was discovered on July 25 when a technician, called to repair the unresponsive ATM, found the cash missing. The machine had been loaded with cash on July 16, but no transactions occurred afterward. Police are scanning CCTV footage from July 16 to 25 to confirm the suspects' movements. Two men arrested for multiple armed robberies in Muhana
1 2 Jaipur: Muhana police Saturday arrested Sandeep Vaishnav (23) and Rahul Gurjar (19) with a country-made pistol and live cartridge for two armed robberies that took place in Muhana area Thursday and Friday. The duo has allegedly confessed to multiple night-time robberies near deserted roads and liquor shops. Police recovered a looted bike, four mobile phones, and linked the pair to recent armed robberies involving cash and jewellery. Muhana SHO Guru Bhupendra Singh said Anil Sharma of Mohanpura was returning home around 11pm Thursday when two bike-borne robbers stopped him near Gate No. 1 of Muhana Mandi.
