CM Suhvinder Singh Sukhu laments governor Shiv Pratap Shukla's ‘Udta Himachal' remark
Shimla: Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday objected to governor Shiv Pratap Shukla 's remarks that Himachal Pradesh could become "Udta Himachal" like "Udta Punjab" within the next five years if the state govt failed to act swiftly on drug cases. Sukhu said it did not behove a constitutional office-holder to make such remarks. The governor had on July 24 stated that despite repeated appeals, the state govt was not taking adequate action, noting there was only one Red Cross rehabilitation centre in Kullu across the entire state. Shukla added that with the sharp increase in drug cases, the state govt should open more rehabilitation centres. However, the only response had been that the state govt was identifying land in Sirmaur district to establish a drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centre. "The governor is holding a constitutional and dignified office and we respect him. But making such statements does not behove of him. We should all respect the people of Himachal Pradesh," the CM said while speaking to the mediapersons on Monday. The CM said no previous govts had done what the incumbent Congress govt did against the drugs menace. Within three months after the formation of the Congress govt, provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act were invoked for the first time in the state, Sukhu highlighted. Illegally acquired properties of drug-traffickers worth Rs 43 crore were seized and directions have already been issued for the mapping of all 3,575 panchayats across the hill state, he added. A head constable or a constable will be specially deployed for every five or six panchayats to check drug abuse, and this exercise will gather data about a drug-addicted patient and the source of narcotics, the CM informed. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday (July 28, 2025) took strong exception to the recent remarks of Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on drug menace in the State and said that it does not behove a person holding a constitutional office to make such statements. The Governor had, on Thursday (July 24, 2025), expressed his displeasure over the "lack of government rehabilitation centres" in the State and warned that if immediate action is not taken to eradicate drug menace, Himachal Pradesh would become "Udta Punjab" in the next five years. 9 drug peddlers held with narcotics, Rs 20 lakh in J-K
Jammu, Jul 21 (PTI) Nine peddlers were nabbed with drugs and Rs 20 lakh in their possession from different places in Jammu and Udhampur districts, police said on Monday. A drug peddler was detained under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act in Kathua, while two shops of an alleged drug peddler were demolished in Rajeev Nagar of Jammu, they said. A police spokesperson said a man and his son-in-law were arrested after 283 grams of heroin and Rs 20 lakh were recovered from their car during a check at Sikandarpur Kothey in Bishnah area in the outskirts of Jammu. The son-in-law was identified as Sadiq Ali alias 'Jattu" of Marheen area of Kathua and the older man as Saif Ali alias 'Safu" of Bishnah. An investigation is underway to trace the source and destination of the recovered contraband. Three drug peddlers were arrested along with 10.5 kgs of poppy straw from a load carrier from Rehambal area of Udhampur district. Two people riding on a motorcycle were arrested from Tikri after 8.77 grams of heroin was found on them, while another peddler was arrested with nearly 1 kg of ganja in his car in Kud area of Udhampur, the spokesperson said. Another peddler was apprehended after 2.3 kg of ganja was recovered from him in Janipora locality of Jammu, he said. Pankaj Sharma alias 'Panku", a notorious peddler and a resident of Billawar, was detained under the PIT-NDPS Act In Kathua district on the directions of Jammu divisional commissioner. 'Sharma is a repeated offender and had created a sense of fear in the public by his illegal activities. His detention under PITNDPS will send a strong message to other drug peddlers and anti-social elements," the spokesperson said. NCB announces ₹1L reward for information on smuggler Salim Dola
MUMBAI: The Mumbai unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has announced a cash reward of ₹1 lakh for credible information on the whereabouts of alleged narcotics trafficker, Salim Ismail Dola, 57, leading to his arrest. NCB announces ₹ 1L reward for information on smuggler Salim Dola Dola, who is believed to be abroad, is wanted by the NCB for his alleged involvement in the seizure of 20 kg of Mephedrone, commonly known as MD, from the Dongri area two years ago. The 57-year-old had supplied the contraband to the accused from whom it was seized, said NCB sources. Subsequently, a non-bailable warrant was issued against Dola by a local court while the Interpol issued a Red Corner Notice against him following the NCB's request, the sources mentioned. In the notice issued to the public on Wednesday, the NCB said that information related to Dola's whereabouts can be submitted to its additional director in Mumbai via telephone (022-22620428) and email (zdmzu-ncb@ Name and other identification details of potential informants would be kept 'strictly confidential', the notice mentioned. In May, a city-based narcotics trafficker with international linkages, who was allegedly involved in the seizure of 20 kg MD, was placed under preventive detention as per provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act. He was later transferred from the Arthur Road prison to Chennai's Puzhal Central Prison and the NCB froze his assets worth ₹6.4 crore, suspected to be proceeds from his drug-trafficking activities. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had, in June, secured the deportation of Dola's son, Taher, an accused in a ₹252-crore synthetic drug case, from the United Arab Emirates. Taher was wanted by the Mumbai police for allegedly operating an illegal MD-manufacturing unit in Sangli. Mumbai police had seized 126.14 kg MD from the facility, valued at approximately ₹252 crore, in March 2024.
