Aditya Narayan reacts to father Udit Narayan's kissing controversy: ‘He is now aware that there is something called consent'
Earlier this year, legendary singer Udit Narayan faced a lot of backlash for kissing a female fan during a concert, sparking a conversation about boundaries and consent involving public figures. The criticism intensified when old videos showing Udit kissing female singers like Shreya Ghoshal and Alka Yagnik resurfaced. Now, in an exclusive interview with SCREEN, his son and singer Aditya Narayan addresses the controversy for the first time. He revealed that the veteran singer has taken the concerns seriously and assured that such incidents won't happen again.
When asked about his reaction to the kissing videos emerging on social media, Aditya said, 'Internet is a strange thing. Social media is not a real place and what you see on social media is not the full picture. As public figures, we don't have control over every single part of what is broadcast in the world.'
Aditya Narayan revealed that Udit Narayan initially struggled to understand the anger and backlash over his actions. 'Pehle toh pitaaji ko samajh mein nahi aaya ki logon ko naraazgi kis baat ki hai. He comes from a different time and perspective. There was an era when fans used to throw their undergarments on the artiste on stage. You can't do that anymore. Similarly, he comes from a time when a fan gives you love, you don't consider it incorrect when giving that love back,' he stated.

The singer explained the concept of 'consent' to his father, and also mentioned how the situation would have been otherwise if it was someone as young as him. 'But now, thankfully, we live in a day and age when consent is a thing. He had no idea about it. It is a wonderful, but fairly new development. There are age appropriate terms also now. Shayad mein karta aur koi 32 saal ki ladki hoti, toh itni badi baat nahi hoti. He is now a respected senior member of the music fraternity and his fans range from 6 to 60. So, it depends on who it's happening with,' Aditya said.
He added, 'He wasn't aware. He doesn't come from that generation. He is someone who would never want to be inappropriate. Uske lie main hu, jab unko samajh nahi aata hai toh main samjhaata hu. Now, he is aware that there is something called consent. Maine unko ek hi cheez samjhaayi ki public figure aap hain. How someone expresses their love to you will never become news, how you express that love back is very important because you are a role model.'
However, the 'Tattad Tattad' singer shared that Udit Narayan was willing to evolve with the changing time. 'The amazing part about him is that he is always willing to learn. He understood when I explained it to him. People don't realise sometimes ki vo kisko kya bolrahe hain. He is 70 years old; he comes from a different time. I am not defending him, but we keep evolving. This is one area where there was a lack of evolution,' he said.
'Now that it has happened, he is aware of it. You cannot rob a public figure of their right to make mistakes and learn from them. Nobody is perfect. You should just accept them and keep learning. We are simple people,' Aditya concluded.
On the work front, Aditya Narayan recently launched his album Saansein with its first track 'Bana Le Tera'.

'Panchayat' actress Sanvikaa opens up on fighting for respect amid nepotism in the industry: 'It does get easier if you come from a certain backdrop'
Sanvikaa, known for her role as Rinki in 'Panchayat', revealed she fights for basic respect in the industry due to nepotism. Since the show's success, opportunities have increased, but she remains selective, waiting for the right roles. She credits Panchayat for her recognition and career growth. Sanvikaa , who portrays Rinki in the popular series ' Panchayat ', is celebrating the acclaim of its fourth season. Recently, she hinted at feeling undervalued in the entertainment industry through a cryptic Instagram story. In a candid interview, she discussed the ongoing insider-outsider dynamics and revealed her hopes for her character's development in the upcoming fifth season. Clarifying the Cryptic Note When SCREEN inquired about her enigmatic Instagram note, Sanvikaa responded by clarifying, "Honestly, I don't have a problem with anyone because it was said in a certain particular context. I still stand by it, but I don't want to talk much about it." She then elaborated on the inherent struggles within the acting profession, noting, "But, it does get easier if you come from a certain backdrop. Everyone has their own fight, whether it's someone who is starting at a basic level or someone who wants to come to Bombay from their own hometown, there will be another fight. When you audition, it's another fight and when you start getting something, there's another fight. In each stage of your life as an actor, there will be different kinds of battles.' Fighting for Basic Respect She added that the context where it came from was that at least you don't have to fight for basic things like respect and being treated in a little equal way, which others are given by default. If she compares herself with the other person, they are given respect naturally. She has to keep proving and fight for it, then she is given that thing. The Viral Post and Its Message Her viral post read, 'Sometimes I wish I was an insider or maybe from a very powerful background, things would have been so much easier (maybe, I don't know) As basic as getting respect and being treated as an equal. The battles would have been lesser. Hanging on.' Growing Opportunities Post-Panchayat Sanvikaa also revealed that while she has been selective with her projects, opportunities have increased significantly since starring in 'Panchayat'. After the show, there have been a lot of opportunities, and she is getting lead roles, but she is waiting for a good opportunity because she doesn't want to disappoint her fans. She is taking her sweet time, acknowledging the expectation that comes after doing such a good role. 'Panchayat' has given her everything; wherever she goes, people recognize her only because of this show. It has given her a new life and a new identity. Changing Perceptions and Career Growth The actor shared that after season three, her career trajectory changed significantly. People began to see her potential and wanted to explore her in diverse characters, viewing her through a different lens. Anshula Kapoor reveals The Traitors left her with PTSD: ‘No amount of money should be okay to give you mental health triggers'
Social media influencer Anshula Kapoor recently got evicted from The Traitors. After her exit, Anshula spoke to SCREEN about her traumatic experience on the show and how her bond with Maheep Kapoor seemed to bother others. Anshula, who is Arjun Kapoor's sister, also shared that when she signed the show, the makers had assured that the show was an intelligent one; however, it has only turned out to be an extension of Bigg Boss. Talking about how having her aunt, Maheep Kapoor, on the show was a relief, Anshula said, 'Honestly, it was very comforting on the first day, but then we started picking up that everybody else was extremely uncomfortable that we knew each other from before. Even though several contestants knew each other from previous associations, at some point, Maheep chachi and I discovered that maybe we should figure out how to become more friendly with others rather than just sticking to each other.' Also Read: Anshula Kapoor accuses 'chachi' Maheep Kapoor of being a 'traitor' as familial bond weakens on Karan Johar's show: 'If I was a traitor, I wouldn't be dumb about it' She added, 'The entire plan was always to pit one against the other. Both of us were being as transparent with each other as possible. It's a show at the end of the day, and she is my aunt, we are a family, and have an entire life of living together. We couldn't let something said or done on the show affect our relationship outside of the show. That should never be the case. Here, I will give 100 percent credit to Maheep. She was and is incredibly nonchalant about the fact that it's a game and has to be played like one. She was like, 'Whatever happens here is not going out of here.' We were not going to carry that baggage outside. That gave me comfort, more than having her physically there, because I knew our relationship was not going to get soured because of what one of us said to the other.' Anshula Kapoor further shared how coming from a film family became a disadvantage in the game, as she was judged for being a star kid. She said, 'I don't deny that I come from privilege, and also, I am not the only person on that show with a certain amount of privilege. I can't do anything about the fact that I come from privilege either. I can just be myself, which is what I was doing on the show. I am not a front-footed person. I don't do drama. I like to be in control of my emotions, and I was being myself. So if I was being judged for or asked questions for, or being taunted, or being made fun of because of the family I belong to, my lineage, my last name. It was a game. It could have been a tactic to get a rile out of me to see what my baseline is because a lot of contestants were doing that as well. They were trying to poke where it hurts the most. You try not to hold on to it unless it's abusive.' Calling The Traitors a traumatic experience, Anshula Kapoor shared how it all affected her. She said, 'I have very selective memory because the show was a little bit traumatising for me. Not only did I have trauma from the show, but I was also extremely traumatized because of the last mission, which was very triggering for me due to a past lived experience. There was a psychologist on set, but I was not able to get the support I needed, even though I requested it after the mission. I was mentally done by then; the negativity was getting to me. It was psychologically bullsh** and I didn't want to subject myself to this.' Anshula further shared, 'I went back into intensive therapy because there was a lot of personal trauma that got regurgitated in the show due to the conversations, the last mission, being completely out of my comfort zone. It was not easy, and I am not saying this to get sympathy, but I don't know if I would want to put myself willingly in this position. When I signed up for the show, I didn't sign up for the trauma. I signed up to play an intelligent game.' Even though her family stood by her, Anshula Kapoor shared that she felt her mental and physical state had collapsed after her experience on The Traitors. She said, 'My partner, brother, and sisters were all very supportive. Also, because Maheep got out early, she and Arjun Bhaiyya had a conversation where she explained to them the show, the environment, and the headspace of the house. That gave him a perspective on what was going on; he knew that I was coming from a f***ed-up mental space. He was prepared for it.' 'I did a psychological test after the show, and I was diagnosed with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), which is something I didn't have before going into the show. They did a psychological test for us before we were confirmed as contestants. If I had PTSD, then they would have flagged it to me, but they didn't. That's not something you sign up for, and no amount of money should be okay to give you that kind of mental health triggers,' Anshula Kapoor concluded.
