Effective inter-agency action crucial to address 3R issues
In tackling challenges related to 3R sentiments, the Alert, Sensitive, Engagement and Control approach will serve as the main strategy in managing sensitive issues in Malaysia.
The MPPN also discussed a study on unity issues from the security aspect, presented by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), which revealed 44 3R-related cases reported between January and April 2025.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the MPPN chairman, in a statement after the meeting, emphasised the importance of taking firm and effective action against provocation and racial sentiment on social media.
He also called on enforcement agencies such as the PDRM, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and others to act swiftly, while urging all government agencies to work together comprehensively to safeguard the country's harmony and unity.
Meanwhile, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, in the same statement, said his ministry would organise the Persidangan Pembinaan Negara Bangsa MADANI (MADANI Nation-Building Conference) in June.
He said that the conference would provide a national platform for discussing approaches, strategies, and policies aimed at strengthening a united and progressive Malaysia based on MADANI values.
During the same meeting, the National Service Training Department presented on the re-implementation of the National Service Training Programme (PLKN), which would involve citizens aged 17 to 35 years under a new concept based on the National Service Training Act, Security White Paper, National Unity Policy, and National Community Policy.
The government had earlier decided that the basic PLKN 3.0 training at public universities, polytechnics, and teacher education institutes would commence with the intake of students for the 2026/2027 academic session.

KUALA LUMPUR: The federal government spent over RM21 million on organising Madani Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations in 2024 and 2025. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said all costs were fully borne by the federal government as part of its social investment to strengthen public engagement and reinforce the spirit of unity in the Madani framework. He said no financial contributions were received from private entities or government-linked companies (GLCs) for the festivities in either year. "The actual expenditure for the 2024 Madani Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations held in seven states was RM10,050,196.66, with an average of RM1,435,742.38 per state. "For 2025, the total expenditure across seven locations is RM10,928,222.53, averaging RM1,561,174.65 per location," he said. He said this in response to Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PN–Kuala Krai) on the expenditure for each open house and Madani Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration programme organised by the government. He said the costs covered essential items such as logistics, public catering and promotional efforts to ensure wide community participation, especially as the events were held on a large scale across multiple states. He said that starting from 2023, the open house celebrations had been expanded nationwide. In contrast, the 2022 event was limited to attendees in the Klang Valley, yet incurred a higher cost of RM11 million. "The open house was part of the government's efforts to strengthen the relationship between the people and leaders through an inclusive, people-friendly approach that reaches all levels of society. "These events are not merely festive celebrations but serve as important platforms to foster national unity, promote harmony and encourage interaction and mutual understanding among Malaysia's multiracial society," he said.

Set up federal body to enforce child support
KUALA LUMPUR: The government has been urged to establish a federal child support enforcement agency to ensure the fair and automatic collection of child maintenance from non-compliant parents. Seputeh member of Parliament Teresa Kok said such an agency was crucial to strengthening family institutions under the Madani framework, and that the system should not rely on the assumption that all fathers would automatically fulfil their responsibilities. "Strengthening family institutions cannot rest on the assumption that all men will automatically fulfil their responsibilities. "The reality is that many mothers are forced to become personal debt collectors, chasing down ex-husbands just to obtain their children's basic rights. "This is not only unfair but also causes prolonged emotional and financial stress," she said while debating the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in the Dewan Rakyat today. Kok proposed that the government model the agency after similar mechanisms in countries such as Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada — where authorities are empowered to enforce child support payments through wage deductions, passport suspensions, licence restrictions and legal action. "Such an approach would make child support a responsibility monitored by the state, not a personal burden. "Malaysian mothers are long overdue for this, but it is not too late to act in the interest of justice and our children's future," she said. Kok also said that the proposed agency must be inclusive and serve all mothers, regardless of race or religion.

Johor and Riau Islands police boost cross-border security cooperation
JOHOR BAHRU: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cross-border security cooperation during a high-level meeting today. The discussions focused on tackling maritime security threats, smuggling, human trafficking, and terrorism in the Johor-Riau Islands waters. The meeting was attended by Johor's newly appointed police chief, CP Ab Rahaman Arsad, and Riau Islands Regional Police Chief Inspector General Asep Safrudin. Both leaders emphasized the importance of joint efforts to safeguard the shared maritime border. 'Johor, as a maritime border state with the Riau Islands, remains committed to ensuring the safety of the region through close cooperation between the two regional enforcement agencies,' stated the Johor police in an official Facebook post. Also present was ASP Riza Sativa, police consul and liaison officer from the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru, who plays a key role in facilitating coordination between Polri and Malaysian security forces. In his first press conference yesterday, CP Ab Rahaman highlighted Johor's strategic location bordering Singapore and proximity to Indonesia, making it a critical security gateway. He stressed the need for heightened preparedness among PDRM personnel to address emerging threats.
