We held a meeting with the traders and they were clearly briefed on the directive to install name boards in Tamil. They can have name boards both in Tamil and English, but the Tamil letters should be bigger. Many traders have complied with the directive and some have not. Those who had not complied were imposed fine and given 10 days time to comply. If they fail to do so, penal action will be initiated,' Mr. Pradeep Kumar said in a brief interaction with reporters here.
Mr. Pradeep Kumar said local bodies had been instructed to remove flag posts erected on the roadsides and claimed that nearly 90% of them had been removed. The remaining would also be cleared soon, he said.
Earlier, the Collector inspected the electronic voting machines kept in the strong room in the Collectorate complex in the presence of representatives of recognised political parties as part of a routine exercise. All the 8,637 ballot units, 3,449 control units and 3,990 VVPAT devices were found to be intact during the inspection, he said.

Mumbai: Maharashtra BJP's former president and Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Saturday criticised Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray, saying that it is clear from his speech that his real agenda is not 'M' for 'Marathi,' but 'M' for 'Municipal Corporation'. 'His love for Marathi is nothing but a political stunt that surfaces when elections are near. The public has now recognised this hypocrisy,' he remarked in his reaction after Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray attended a joint rally to celebrate the state government's move to withdraw two government resolutions on the introduction of Hindi along with Marathi and English. Incidentally, Bawankule did not target Raj Thackeray in his criticism. He said that under the guise of Marathi pride, Uddhav Thackeray sang a lament in Worli about the loss of power. 'Why did he accept the report mandating Hindi from the first grade in 2022 while he was Chief Minister? He never answered it,' he said. Bawankule said that the Marathi language is not just an identity that stands on emotions, but it must be reflected in policies. 'When you (Uddhav Thackeray) were in power in Mumbai, you sidelined the Marathi people. Now, to regain power, you are showing fake love for Marathi again,' he claimed. With the municipal elections approaching, the panicked Uddhav Sena, scared of the BJP, now remembers family ties. The program in Worli today was a family bonding event to publicly appeal to the brother they had thrown out of the house. There was no love for the language or anything like that... and it doesn't even matter to them! This is a desperate struggle to gain power in the municipality and to loot Mumbai again for the sake of power.' On the other hand, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena also only targeted Uddhav Thackeray, terming him a detractor and a hollow figurehead while showering praise on Raj Thackeray, terming him wise and a champion of Marathi. In a post on X, Shiv Sena made a comparison between the leadership of Uddhav and Raj Thackeray. 'One enlightened, the other provocative. One right, the other left. One younger yet grand, the other grand yet younger. One a lover of Marathi, the other a lover of power. One wields a whip in words, the other harbours vengeance in speech. The term refers to someone found guilty of religious wrongdoing. The decision was announced by Jathedar and head granthi Giani Baldev Singh in Patna on Saturday. "Sukhbir Singh Badal is declared 'tankhaiya' for being found guilty of ignoring the orders of the 'Panj Pyare Singh Sahibs' of Takht Sri Patna Sahib," the directive said. According to Takht Patna Sahib's directive, Badal was a conspirator in the recent conflict involving different Sikh religious authorities. He was summoned three times but did not appear. The directive stated that his absence clearly pointed to his involvement in the controversy. The dispute began on May 21, when the Akal Takht barred Takht Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Baldev Singh and another granthi from performing their religious duties. Takht Patna Sahib responded by declaring the Akal Takht Jathedar and Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar 'tankhaiya', and also summoned Badal for his alleged role in the matter. He said it was beyond the jurisdiction of Takht Patna Sahib and could create confusion within the Sikh community. Dhami stressed that while Takht Patna Sahib is highly respected, only the Akal Takht has the authority to decide on issues concerning the wider Sikh community. He warned that undermining the Akal Takht could cause serious damage to Sikh traditions and unity. He called for resolution through mutual dialogue and said the Sikh community's energy should be directed towards collective growth and the promotion of Sikh values, not internal disputes. Badal was earlier declared 'tankhaiya' by the Akal Takht in Amritsar in August last year, and later in December was given religious punishment for mistakes linked to the Akali Dal government's rule in Punjab from 2007 to 2017.
