Stephen A. Smith says quiet part out loud about Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers' retirement

Aaron Rodgers shocked the world when he all but confirmed his retirement plans — and Stephen A. Smith applauded the future Hall of Famer's direction. Rodgers claimed that when he retires, no one will see him out in public — a decision that Smith believes, when considering the unnecessary criticism directed at him, is well deserved. 'They used every excuse to get at [Rodgers],' Smith said on ESPN's First Take. 'It has been very, very annoying — and it has been a bit intrusive. Dare I say, even in this day and age, where every little excuse that you could find to get at him, people have gotten at him. "I like the idea: 'Listen, this is it. I'm out after this, and you won't see me.' He's basically telling the world, 'Kiss his a--.' And I have no problem with it whatsoever, because I think half the world deserves to hear that from him — because I think not enough appreciation has been thrown in his direction. This brother was not good. He was great.' From outspoken analysts like former Steelers safety Ryan Clark to the polarizing response of his signing with Pittsburgh, Rodgers has more than his fair share of critics — but Smith makes a valid point: a lot of it has been unfair. Padraig Harrington Shows Stones, Fends Off Stewart Cink for U.S. Senior Open Title

In what proved to be a wild, back and forth day at the Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs, CO, Padraig Harrington prevailed by one shot over Stewart Cink. It was Harrington's second career U.S. Senior Open win. But it did not come easy. There were six lead changes during Sunday's final round, as Cink went tit for tat with the Irishman. (Photo by) MoreHarrington and Cink played all four rounds together, which is not very common. But the two have played together for years, including on the PGA Tour. Earlier in the week, the 3-time major champion was in the news for something other than his play. Harrington had words with an NBC Analyst, prompting rabid reactions online. But it was his play that stole the show on Sunday. Harrington Shows Clutch Gene As both Harrington and Cink approached the 18th tee on Sunday, the former held a one-shot lead at 11-under, and had the honors. He split the fairway, putting a bit of pressure on Cink to answer, which he did in spades. He outdrove the 2-time U.S. Senior Open champion, and put himself in prime position for his approach. That put the pressure back on Harrington to deliver, and that he did. CLUTCH! Padraig Harrington 🇮🇪 is in prime position at @TheBroadmoor! — USGA (@USGA) June 29, 2025 The 53-year-old fan favorite showed his clutch gene. He stuck his approach shot inside 10 feet. That forced Cink to have to some up with something special. But the second-place finisher was unable to do so, as his approach failed to stay on the top level and rolled more than 30 feet from the hole. That allowed Harrington to easily two-putt for another championship. With the win, he joined some truly exclusive company. Harrington is now only the third golfer ever to win multiple Open Championships and U.S. Senior Opens. The others are true legends of the game: Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. Harrington won three majors while playing on the PGA Tour, two of which came in 2008: The PGA Championship and Open Championship. That win overseas was his second as he defended his crown, which he won at Carnoustie in 2007. Since joining the Senior Circuit, he captured the 2022 U.S. Senior Open, while also winning the Charles Schwab Cup that year. The Irish pro is known for his social media presence, as he loves posting tutorials for Sunday golfers. But this Sunday, he proved that he can still play the game at an elite level.
