Man booked for rape after marrying and abandoning woman post her divorce
Surat: Dindoli police have booked a man for rape after he allegedly assaulted and later abandoned a 28-year-old woman he had married just a month earlier on May 15. The woman, who had divorced her first husband, filed a complaint after the accused disappeared from Surat.
According to the police, the victim and the accused, came in contact through social media in 2023. Over the next two years, they developed a relationship, during which the accused proposed marriage and promised to relocate with her to Delhi after securing a job.
The woman had been married since 2010 and has two daughters. Due to marital discord, she had started living separately, while her daughters remained with her husband.
Following her growing closeness with the accused, she obtained a divorce from her first husband.
In June 2024, the accused allegedly took the woman to a hotel in Pal and raped her, assuring her of marriage. However, when she brought up the subject of marriage, he continued to delay it, citing various reasons including the pending marriage of his elder brother. During this period, the victim has alleged that the accused also physically and verbally abused her.

Salauddin's nephew, Gaush Khan, has been detained for interrogation. He is believed to possess critical information about Salauddin's contacts in Pakistan and other countries. Investigators say over a dozen of Salauddin's relatives have lived in Pakistan since the 1950s, and the family made frequent trips across the border, reportedly two to three times a year. The probe has further revealed that Salauddin was employing skilled gunsmiths from Madhya Pradesh and Bihar under the guise of tenants. While he posed publicly as a traditional healer and honey seller, his house served as a covert manufacturing hub for illegal arms. Police are now preparing to seek Salauddin's custody remand for further probe, particularly into his suspected links with networks operating out of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Maha price hike: Liquor smuggling from MP on a high
Nagpur: The recent hike in liquor prices in Maharashtra has triggered a considerable rise in liquor smuggling from neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, where alcohol is significantly cheaper. Sources said Maharashtra-based smugglers have become active in the backdrop of the price hike. The Nagpur crime branch has intensified its crackdown on interstate liquor smuggling, intercepting a consignment smuggled in from other states. In a significant operation on June 28, the crime branch's Unit No. 2, under senior inspector Mahesh Sagade, Assistant PI Gajanan Chambhare, Mahendra Sadmake, and others under DCP Crime Rahul Maknikar, intercepted branded liquor based on a tip-off about a smuggling operation. The consignment was supposed to be delivered at Jaripatka and some locations in north Nagpur. The action took place near LIC Chowk, under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station. At approximately 9.30pm, the crime branch apprehended Sahil Turkar after his car was intercepted. Another suspect, identified only as Pandit from Gopalganj, Shivni, Madhya Pradesh, remains at large. Nagpur: CM Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said the Maharashtra govt under him took the historic decision of setting up three national law universities (NLUs)—at Mumbai, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar—to settle the debate over its location nearly a decade ago. He pointed out that no state in the country has such an arrangement, Fadnavis highlighted the role played by then CJI Sharad Bobde as well as CJI Bhushan Gavai, then with the Nagpur bench of Bombay HC, Union minister Nitin Gadkari, and himself in chalking out a plan for bringing Maharashtra NLU to Nagpur.
