Rampant England and France reach Women's Euro 2025 quarter-finals
Georgia Stanway started England on their way from the penalty spot in the 13th minute and further goals from Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp, Alessia Russo, Beth Mead and Aggie Beever-Jones made sure of passage to the last eight.
England will face Sweden in Zurich on Thursday, a repeat of the semi-final at the last Euros three years ago which the Lionesses won 4-0.
But the Swedes look a tough proposition after topping Group C with a perfect nine points and swatting aside Germany on Saturday.
"We just wanted to be confident and enjoy it and I think we obviously play better football when we do that. I think there was more flow to the game tonight, there was better connections," said midfielder Keira Walsh.
"(Sweden are) going to be a really tough opposition but we're just going to keep trying to focus on what we're doing, keep being confident, playing good football."
France meanwhile will take on Germany in Basel in the last quarter-final on Saturday, and are on the same side of the knockout draw as world champions Spain who face hosts Switzerland on Friday.
The French finished the group stage three points ahead of England after making it three wins from three thanks to Delphine Cascarino's decisive double.
San Diego Wave forward Cascarino has been excellent in Switzerland, and she made sure that France would top the group with the key goals in a superb comeback from a goal down.
France, who opened the scoring through Sandie Toletti in the 22nd minute, trailed at the break to a Victoria Pelova strike and Selma Bacha's clumsy own goal.

But Marie-Antoinette Katoto levelled for France just after the hour and the match was done six minutes later thanks to Cascarino's fine finishes.
First Cascarino lashed France back ahead with a sumptuous, dipping long-range strike, before rolling in the fourth after Sandy Baltimore watched her shot ricochet off both posts.
Sakina Karchaoui completed the scoring from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
"I'm having a good Euros, and it's a real pleasure to play in a major tournament. I'm pleased and I hope that we can go a long way," Cascarino told reporters.
In St Gallen, England knew a win would be enough to seal a spot in the next round regardless of what happened in Basel, and once Stanway slotted home her penalty after being brought down by Carrie Jones there was no way back for Wales.
Eight minutes later Toone doubled England's lead after Wales failed to clear and the Manchester United forward tapped home after her initial effort was blocked on the line by Lily Woodham.
Toone then turned provider on the half-hour with a perfect searching cross for Hemp, before Russo rolled home from close range just before half-time to get off the mark for the tournament.
Mead drilled home England's fifth in the 72nd minute, but Hannah Cain gave Wales fans something to cheer about by lashing a fine consolation goal past Hannah Hampton.
And Beever-Jones completed the rout one minute from the end to send England through on a high.

Carlton vice-captain Jacob Weitering says continually failing 'in front of millions' has turned up the heat on the club's underperforming leaders who need to rediscover their purpose fast. 'At the moment as leaders we're probably not playing to the standard that we want to play to. 'When your leaders don't lead it's very hard to ask the younger crop to come up and do a job. 'We've got six weeks now to find a purpose. Winning is obvious, but how can we get the most out of the back end of this year to set us up for next year?' Carlton has conceded a mammoth 328 points in three of the four losses, giving up more than 100 points in the past three games, which is a clear area of deficiency needed to be addressed. 'You're just not going to win games of football doing that,' he said. 'We're not throwing away our identity, but we've certainly gone away from it over the last three weeks. 'You win games off the back of defence and pressure, and we haven't been able to do that consistently ... it has been disappointing for sure.' Despite the run of poor results, Weitering said Voss had the players support, they just needed to show it on field. 'The No.1 thing for us is just making sure Vossy's OK,' Weitering said. 'We've got his back. He'll continue coaching us for the rest of the year. 'He's put on an incredibly brave face and he's done that the entire time that he's coached us.'

Codes collided in Sydney on Monday, and the outcome was nothing but positive as Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson and Canterbury coach Cameron Ciraldo picked each other's brains about the importance of 'mentality' and 'culture' at a football club. Ciraldo has been at the forefront of a Bulldogs revival since his appointment in 2023, with the club this year a genuine chance of winning its first NRL premiership since 2004. Wrexham has enjoyed a meteoric rise under the tutelage of Parkinson, with the Welsh club having secured three successive promotions to now being an English Championship outfit that will this season vie for a Premier League berth. Seeking any extra edge that he can add to the Bulldogs, Ciraldo was a visitor at Wrexham's training session ahead of the Red Dragons' battle with Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium on Tuesday night. 'It's fantastic that he's come down here (to training) and he seems a top guy, and it looks like they're having a good season and getting in those playoffs,' Parkinson said. 'It was really interesting to speak to Cam about how he approaches and has created his team, (and) coaching his team. 'There are a lot of similarities in terms of mentality and team building, and getting the squad right and the culture right. So much is transferable between the two sports. 'We want a team that's going to work for each other. I've never been a manager who has a team where you can carry a passenger who's not going to run the yards for the rest of the group. 'In sport, if you get one player who's not buying into the group, then it can detract, definitely.' Parkinson – whose club has been owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since 2021 and is the subject of sports documentary television series Welcome to Wrexham – also spent an extended period with Sydney FC coach Ufuk Talay on a boat trip on Sunday. 'He's a very nice guy, a very humble guy, and it was good to see that as coaches, we go through the same things,' Talay said of Parkinson. 'The most important part is winning the games on the field. That give them that leverage to move.' A crowd of more than 35,000 is expected at the game, which is the second of Wrexham's pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand, with the Red Dragons having beaten Melbourne Victory 3-0 at Marvel Stadium last Friday night. 'It's great for the game in Australia. It's great for the average person that doesn't even watch football to come out and see the spectacle, then actually get hooked, and then buy a season ticket and come to watch the A-League,' Talay said. 'To bring these type of teams into the country is something very special.'

As Gout added to his legend by winning the U23 200m event with a 20.10 second run, he had enough time to meet Piastri inside the track at the Stade Louis II stadium. Piastri, who resides in the luxurious French principality in an apartment in Monte Carlo, and his girlfriend Lily Zneimer were VIP attendees at the prestigious track meet. They were seen mixing it up with Prince Albert of Monaco on the track and also posed with some of the other dignitaries in attendance. Piasti sidled up for photos with Swedish freak Armand Duplantis, who again stole the show in the pole vault. He also posed with Aussie pole vaulter Kurtis Marschall. Ferrari ace Charles Leclerc was also there and was seen posing for photos with Olympic sprint king Noah Lyles. The best photo of all, however, was clearly the sight of Piastri and Gout hanging out. Piastri's long-time girlfriend Lily was also seen enjoying her time, but the Aussie driver may have made a relationship error when he appeared to show Prince Albert more love than his other half. Gout got a solid start and surged down the back straight to win the race in a time of 20.10sec with a -1.9 headwind, finishing ahead of Botswana's Collen Kebinatshipi (20.28) and South Africa's Naeem Jack (20.42). If not for the headwind, it could well have been a 20-second run for Gout, who famously broke Peter Norman's Australian 200m record last year. Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles won the senior 200m event in Monaco in a time of 19.86sec, just ahead of Botswana's Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo (19.97sec). It was a strong day for Australia with Peter Bol smashing his own 800m national record by more than a second, posting a seriously slick time of 1:42.55 in Monaco to finish in fourth place. Bol's performance now ranks him within the top 30 on the all-time global list of 800m performers.
