Aussie sports fans lose it over ‘coolest' photo ever taken

Worlds have collided in epic fashion as Oscar Piastri shared a moment with Aussie track sensation Gout Gout over the weekend.
The McLaren driver and teenage sprinter have caused quite a stir with photos showing them catching up during the weekend's Diamond League meet in Monaco.
Fox Sports, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every practice, qualifying session and race in the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship™ LIVE in 4K. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited time offer.
As Gout added to his legend by winning the U23 200m event with a 20.10 second run, he had enough time to meet Piastri inside the track at the Stade Louis II stadium.
Piastri, who resides in the luxurious French principality in an apartment in Monte Carlo, and his girlfriend Lily Zneimer were VIP attendees at the prestigious track meet.
They were seen mixing it up with Prince Albert of Monaco on the track and also posed with some of the other dignitaries in attendance.
Piasti sidled up for photos with Swedish freak Armand Duplantis, who again stole the show in the pole vault.
He also posed with Aussie pole vaulter Kurtis Marschall.
Ferrari ace Charles Leclerc was also there and was seen posing for photos with Olympic sprint king Noah Lyles.
The best photo of all, however, was clearly the sight of Piastri and Gout hanging out.
Piastri shared images of the moment on his Instagram page, writing: 'Loved athletics as a kid. Unbelievable to watch the best up close'.
Gout gave a brief response to the post on Instagram, sharing a number of emojis, including a racing car.
World Athletics and the Wanda Diamond League also shared photos of the pair at the event on their social media channels.
Piastri's long-time girlfriend Lily was also seen enjoying her time, but the Aussie driver may have made a relationship error when he appeared to show Prince Albert more love than his other half.
The sight of Piastri and Gout together was enough to leave some Aussie fans all giddy.
One person on X posted: 'Oscar Piastri and Gout Gout... I've never felt more patriotic in my entire life'.
Another commented on Piastri's post by writing: 'One of the fastest people on four wheels with some of the fastest people on two legs. Good company.
Another person called them the 'two fastest men in Australia'.
One fan wrote on Reddit: 'Just your average Aussie school holidays for Gout Gout'.
One person wrote on Instagram: 'Oscar and Gout Gout - an iconic Aussie duo.'
Gout had plenty of reason to smile after his race.
Gout got a solid start and surged down the back straight to win the race in a time of 20.10sec with a -1.9 headwind, finishing ahead of Botswana's Collen Kebinatshipi (20.28) and South Africa's Naeem Jack (20.42).
If not for the headwind, it could well have been a 20-second run for Gout, who famously broke Peter Norman's Australian 200m record last year.
Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles won the senior 200m event in Monaco in a time of 19.86sec, just ahead of Botswana's Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo (19.97sec).
It was a strong day for Australia with Peter Bol smashing his own 800m national record by more than a second, posting a seriously slick time of 1:42.55 in Monaco to finish in fourth place.
Bol's performance now ranks him within the top 30 on the all-time global list of 800m performers.
Olympic 1500m bronze medallist Jessica Hull continued her superb form, charging to third place in the 1000m in 2:30.96 in a new Area record.

Dwarfism scandal at centre of football superstar Lamine Yamal's 18th birthday celebration

Football superstar Lamine Yamal is facing a government investigation after hiring entertainers with dwarfism to perform at his 18th birthday party. The Barcelona and Spain player spent last weekend celebrating with a glitzy and star-studded event. The teen is one of the biggest stars on the planet after helping guide Barcelona to secure the La Liga, Copa del Rey & Supercopa de Espana trophies while scoring 21 goals. He put pen to paper on a new contract that pays him $26.3m per season and keeps him with the Spanish giants until 2031. The contract also includes a $A1.7b release clause to keep rival clubs at bay from trying to lure him away. Despite his otherworldly on-field achievements, the youngster now founds himself at the centre of serious backlash following his birthday celebrations. Footage from the event has begun circulating online appearing to show several people with dwarfism leaving the mafia-themed event. The scenes have sparked serious concern that they may have been exploited during the celebrations with the ADEE - Spain's Association for People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasia - threatening legal action against the teen star. 'It's unacceptable that in the 21st century, people with dwarfism continue to be used as entertainment at private parties,' ADEE President Carolina Puente said. 'And even more serious when these incidents involve public figures like Lamine Yamal.' According to a Marca report the celebrations could be subject to an investigation after the Ministry of Social Rights called on the prosecutor's office to look into whether the disability law, which prohibits shows that mock or denigrate people with disabilities, was violated. 'We are concerned that people with money, people with power, believe themselves to be unpunished,' Spain's General Director of Disability Jesús Martín said. 'The law is for everyone, for the humble and the powerful. 'Let the appropriate investigations be opened, and let action be taken based on the conclusions.' If found to have been in breach of the law, the teenage superstar could face a fine of up to $AUD1.7 million. Despite the backlash, one of the alleged entertainers with dwarfism has come out in defence of Yamal over the birthday celebrations. Speaking to Spanish radio station RAC1, one of the entertainers said: 'No one disrespected us, let us work in peace. I don't understand why there's so much hype. We're normal people who do what we want, in an absolutely legal way. '(ADEE) is humiliating people with dwarfism. For a couple of years now, these people (authorities) have been harming us; they want to ban a job that we like, and in no case have they offered jobs or courses to the affected people. We work as entertainers. Why can't we do it? Because of our physical condition?' The entertainer, who asked to remain anonymous, said they performed dancing, served drinks, and did magic, with the show lasting an hour. He also stated that afterwards they joined in on the festivities with the rest of those in attendance before claiming the backlash only exists 'because it was Lamine Yamal's party.' Further to the dwarfism backlash, a model named Claudia Calvo came forward to claim Yamal paid for 12 women with a 'certain breast size' to attend the bash. Calvo, who was Miss Teenager Spain back in 2021, claimed she was asked to attend the event but turned it down. She told Tardear TV that she backed out of the event after allegedly receiving a list of demands about what she could wear and what she had to look like. 'I was asked to attend Lamine Yamal's birthday party. They offered us between $A18,000 - $A35,000 to go, but I don't know what they expected from us. They were asking for blonde women with very specific chest dimensions. We couldn't take our phones,' Calvo said. Dozens of glamorous women, fellow Barcelona stars and flashy entertainers can all be seen attending the party in images and videos from the event. Yamal, whose bumper new contract with Barca kicked in as soon as he turned 18, has yet to make any comment. He has, however, taken to Instagram to share a minute long clip showing the best bits of the party to his 36 million followers. The video has already racked up over a million likes and shows Yamal donning a white suit and cane and his now iconic bleached blonde hair. The footy ace also showed off his new $A615,000 necklace featuring the initials 'LY' which was said to be a gift by Dominican rapper El Alfa. Casino-themed games and a live DJ were played long into the night. The video ended with Yamal dancing as the numbers one to 18 flashed on the screen - alluding to his age. Yamal and his Barca teammates kick off their pre-season a week on Sunday, taking on Vissel Kobe in Japan.

Los Angeles Olympics organisers reveal schedule, swapping athletics for swimming in first week

Organisers of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics have released the first look at the Olympic competition schedule, highlighting a historic reshuffling of key events and the most ambitious sports line-up in Games history. The announcement on Monday local time came as the city marked three years to go until the Opening Ceremony and celebrated a major legacy milestone: more than 1 million enrolments in the PlayLA youth sports program. For the first time in three decades, the Summer Olympics will return to the United States, with Los Angeles hosting for the third time after 1932 and 1984. The 2028 Games are set to feature 844 ticketed events designed to maximise both domestic and international viewership. Organisers revealed that the Opening Ceremony would take place on July 14, 2028 (July 15, 1pm AEST), split between the LA Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The Closing Ceremony is scheduled for July 30 at the Coliseum. In a notable departure from tradition, the LA28 schedule swaps the usual order of athletics and swimming competitions. Track and field events will open the Games in the first week, with swimming moving to the second week, culminating in its finale on the penultimate day at the LA Olympic Stadium in Inglewood. Swimming is traditionally Australia's strongest sport at the Olympics, which tends to give the team a solid start on the medal table. The first Olympic champion of LA28 will be crowned at Venice Beach in the triathlon event, while the men's marathon will close out athletics on the final weekend. Day 15 of the Games is expected to be the busiest for medal events, with 16 team sport finals and 19 individual sport finals taking place. "The Olympic competition schedule has been meticulously developed to ensure the world's best athletes can compete in LA," LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover said in a statement. "We are energised by today's milestones and remain focused on the work ahead as the Road to 2028 continues." Organisers said the schedule would continue to be refined, with a more detailed breakdown to be released this year. "When the world comes here for these Games, we will highlight every neighbourhood as we host a Games for all and work to ensure it leaves a monumental legacy," LA Mayor Karen Bass said. Meanwhile, Hoover joined city officials on Monday at an event at the Coliseum to celebrate PlayLA surpassing 1 million program enrolments. The initiative, backed by up to $US160 million ($244.6 million) in investment from LA28, the city's Recreation and Parks Department, and the IOC, provides affordable and inclusive sports programming for children aged 3-17 across more than 40 Olympic and adaptive sports. Mitchell Starc stuns West Indies after Cameron Green's horror start — quick hits from third Test

Mitchell Starc's stunning spell has helped Australia forget about a horror start to day three, although Sam Konstas's fielding briefly halted the party. Here are the quick hits from a wild conclusion to the third and final Test in Jamaica. Alex Carey copped a brutal bouncer to the helmet first up from Alzarri Joseph under lights on day two. He was clearly rattled, but shook it off, although he only faced two more balls before charging the rapid seamer and nicking off. Before play on day three, it was revealed Carey had failed a concussion test overnight. Luckily for Australia, limited-overs wicketkeeper Josh Inglis was in the squad and ready to take the gloves for the final innings. It was Inglis's second stint as an injury replacement in the series, after stepping in for Steve Smith in the first Test due to a dislocated finger. After making it through a brutal night session with wickets tumbling all around him, Cameron Green had earned a session of easier batting in the sunshine on day three. Green needed just three runs to become the second-highest run-scorer for the series and eight for his second half-century in as many Tests. It was all set up for a match- and potentially career-defining innings as he tried to forge his way as a Test number three. Instead, the big West Australian confidently shouldered arms to the first delivery of the day from Shamar Joseph, only to see the ball seam back sharply and collect his off stump. Even for a man so renowned for his ability to strike early in an innings, it was something truly remarkable. Playing his 100th Test and running in on 396 Test wickets, Mitchell Starc found his range straight away on day three, producing one that jagged away enough to catch John Campbell's edge and claim the second first-ball dismissal of the day. Just four balls later, Starc had his second, when debutant Kevlon Anderson left one that swung back at him viciously and thudded into his front pad. He inexplicably sent it upstairs, but there was no way it would be overturned. Brandon King came and went even faster than Anderson, driving at his first ball, which flew straight through the gate and into his stumps. The West Indies' innings, only six balls old, was in tatters and Starc had produced a scarcely believable opening stanza. On a hat-trick and with 399 career wickets to his name, Starc had just become only the second bowler to take three wickets in the opening over of an innings after India's Irfan Pathan. Since the first Test in 1877, there have been more than 2,000 matches played but never before has a bowler taken a five-wicket haul faster than Starc on day three. His fourth wicket of the day — taken before he had even conceded a run — came when Mikyle Louis was caught plumb in front to another pitched-up, dramatic in-swinger. It was the 400th wicket of his career and Starc held the pink ball aloft to mark his entrance into the most salubrious of bowling clubs in his 100th Test. Unbelievably, just two balls later, Starc had made history once more. Once again, a West Indian pad was almost blown off by yet another Starc thunderbolt. Shai Hope sent the decision upstairs but nothing was saving him from becoming Starc's record-breaking victim. Completed in just 15 deliveries, Starc had delivered the fastest five-wicket haul in Test match history, bettering the previous best of 19. On day two, Sam Konstas made his biggest contribution to the third Test in the field with an excellent run-out of Justin Greaves. On day three he fumbled just about everything that came his way and cost his team a slice of history. He dropped two catchable balls at slip that could have handed Starc his sixth wicket, before some sloppy ground fielding allowed a costly single. West Indies looked set to surpass the lowest-ever Test score of 26 when they reached that mark just six wickets down in the 13th over, but Scott Boland's hat-trick left Australia needing one wicket to consign the Caribbean team to a tie for that ignominy. Starc steamed in for the 15th over and found the outside edge of Alzarri Joseph again, with the ball rolling out to Konstas at gully. He crabbed over to it, but the ball snuck under his fingertips and allowed a run. The Australians were clearly aware of it, as third slip Cameron Green threw his hands onto his head in dismay. While it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, it was an unfortunate note for the 19-year-old to end his tour on.
