Shashi Tharoor looking for seat in
Viswam said that Tharoor seemed to be 'in search of his berth' in the alleged 'sleeping cell' of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) operating inside Congress.
Referring to Tharoor's appointment in one of the seven groups of the multi-party delegation, he further criticised the BJP for using the fight against terrorism as a 'hunt for party gain'.
'Rahul Gandhi's concern about BJP sleeping cells inside Congress is not so simple. It seems that Shashi Tharoor is in search of his berth in that cell. BJP knows how to make use of such elements. For them, even the fight against terrorism is a hunt for party gains,' Viswam posted on X.
The Central government on May 17 tasked Shashi Tharoor to lead one of the seven delegations of a project for India's continued fight against cross-border terrorism. Tharoor stated that he will diligently fulfil his assigned responsibilities, emphasising that while the party leadership is entitled to its opinions, his commitment remains steadfast.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticised the government for not accepting all the names nanominated by his party, and said that this was 'dishonest on the government's part.'
Congress MP Manickam Tagore alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had sidelined the Opposition, and prior to 2014, Prime Ministers upheld Parliamentary dignity by consulting the Leader of Opposition for national delegations.
The all-party delegations will project India's national consensus and resolute approach to combating terrorism in all forms and manifestations. They would carry forth to the world the country's strong message of zero tolerance against terrorism.
Earlier in March, Rahul Gandhi, who addressed party workers in Ahmedabad during the Samvaad program, suggested that some were 'cut off' from the people and half of them were 'in cahoots' with the BJP. Gandhi had spoken about the organisational weakness of Congress in Gujarat, where it has been out of power for nearly three decades. (ANI)

Haryana amends Sikh Gurdwaras (Management) Act, 2014
The Haryana cabinet on Friday approved amendments in the Haryana Sikh Gurdwaras (Management) Act, 2014 in order to 'strengthen the legal framework' governing the management of Sikh shrines in the state. (ANI Photo) One of the key changes is the omission of Section 17(2)(c) of the Act, which previously empowered the Gurdwara Committee to remove its own members and this authority will now vest with the Judicial Commission under Section 46. 'The aim of these amendments is to increase transparency, ensure judicial oversight, and provide a clear structure to the administration of gurdwara properties,' an official spokesperson said. The Sections 44 and 45 have been substituted to grant exclusive jurisdiction to a newly constituted Judicial Commission to resolve disputes related to voter eligibility, disqualifications, service matters of gurdwara employees and the selection or appointment issues concerning the gurdwara committees. The appeals against the orders of the commission can be filed before the Punjab and Haryana high court within 90 days. The Section 46 has been revised to empower the commission to adjudicate disputes concerning gurdwara property, funds, and internal conflicts. The commission will have the authority to remove or suspend committee members on grounds of misconduct, and take suo moto cognizance in cases involving misuse or potential damage to gurdwara property or funds. It will also be able to issue temporary injunctions to safeguard such assets. The spokesperson said that new sections from 46-A to 46-N have been added. 'These provide the Judicial Commission powers equivalent to a civil extend protection to commission members for acts performed in good faith under Section 46D,' the spokesperson said. The orders passed by the commission will be enforceable as civil court decrees and its members will be treated as public servants. The amendment introduces a comprehensive legal process for the declaration and management of gurdwaras. The gurdwaras will be classified into three types —Historical (Schedule I), Notified (Schedule II), with annual income of ₹20 lakh or more and Local (Schedule III). A petition to declare a gurdwara as a Sikh gurdwara has to be filed by at least 100 adult Sikh worshippers. 'Through these amendments, the state government seeks to establish a transparent, efficient, and legally robust framework for the administration of Sikh gurdwaras in Haryana,' the spokesperson said.

‘Let us close this': SC on 2018 defamation case against Tharoor
The Supreme Court on Friday favoured closing a criminal defamation case against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor over his 2018 'scorpion sitting on a Shivling' remark about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as it advised the complainant not to be 'touchy' about such comments. During the Bangalore Literature Festival on October 28, 2018,Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had allegedly compared PM Modi to a scorpion, following which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajiv Babbar filed a complaint against the Thiruvananthapuram MP in 2019 (PTI) 'Why do you want to be so touchy about this. Let us close this,' a bench of justices MM Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh said, as it posted the matter for hearing on September 15. The court added: 'That way, administrators, political personalities and judges are in the same group. They are sufficiently thick-skinned.' During the Bangalore Literature Festival on October 28, 2018,Tharoor had allegedly compared Modi to a scorpion, following which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajiv Babbar filed a complaint against the Thiruvananthapuram MP in claimed that the remark not only targeted the Prime Minister but also amounted to vilification of the faith of millions of devotees of Lord Shiva. He further accused Tharoor of hurting religious sentiments and disparaging the Prime Minister. Tharoor has, however, maintained that the remark was borrowed from an article published in 2012, when Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat. In his petition, Tharoor contended that Babbar's complaint was not legally maintainable as he is not an 'aggrieved person' under the law, especially since the person directly referred to in the statement had not taken any legal action. He also relied on the exception under the law on defamation that exempts any comment made in good faith. Tharoor was stated to have merely made a reference to an article published in the Caravan magazine six years prior to making the statement. Despite these arguments, however, the Delhi high court on August 29, 2024 refused to quash the defamation proceedings against him, asking him to appear before the trial court on September 10. The high court had said, prima facie, imputations like 'scorpion on Shivling' against the prime minister were 'despicable and deplorable'. The high court also said there was sufficient material before the judicial magistrate for summoning Tharoor under Section 500 (punishment for defamation) of the IPC. Tharoor challenged the order in the top court in September 2024. In the same month, the apex court stayed the trial in the criminal defamation proceedings and had sought a response from Babbar and the Delhi government. However, the hearing could not proceed as Tharoor's counsel sought an adjournment. The court further extended the stay on the trial till the next date.

Bypass railway line project sparks displacement fear in Ayodhya village; protest brews
AYODHYA Gaddopur Majhwa village in Ayodhya, also home to over 50 families of retired and serving soldiers, fears displacement in wake of the proposed bypass railway line linking the Allahabad-Ayodhya and Lucknow-Ayodhya railway routes. Protests have erupted over the project with locals addressing a memorandum to Ayodhya authorities and leaders of the ruling party and opposition, urging them that the route be altered. The plan would result in Gaddopur Majhwa being completely encircled by railway lines, jeopardising both agricultural land and homes of hundreds of people, say locals. Protests have erupted over the project with locals addressing a memorandum to Ayodhya authorities and leaders of the ruling party and opposition, urging them that the route be altered. 'Development work is on at a rapid pace in in such a situation, new projects are becoming a problem for middle class people, most of whom who have made their houses on loans and now fear displacement,' said BJP corporator Ram Teerath. 'To minimise their budget, the railway ministry has chosen the shortest that is going through the densely populated area. Had the Railways taken a bit longer route, thousands of people could be saved from being displaced,' he added. A few days ago, the railway ministry issued an advertisement stating that a bypass railway line will be drawn between the railway line of Allahabad-Ayodhya and Lucknow-Ayodhya, which will directly connect goods trains and goods warehouse. 'With the arrival of this project, Gaddopur will be surrounded by railway lines from all sides, bringing agricultural land and hundred of houses under threat,' said Ram Teerath. 'This area is also home to over 50 families of retired and active soldiers in the Indian armed forces,' he added.
