BCCI Sent Big 'Jasprit Bumrah' Message For 4th Test Against England: "Heard Rumours..."

NDTV4 days ago
Former Indian cricket team wicket-keeper batter Deep Dasgupta believes star batter Jasprit Bumrah need to play the fourth Test match against England. With India 1-2 down in the five-match series after the heartbreaking loss in the third Test, the fourth encounter at Old Trafford has become extremely important. Ahead of the series, BCCI hinted that Bumrah will be playing just three Test matches in the series but considering the importance of the situation, Dasgupta said that he should certainly play in the next match. He also pointed out that the eight-day gap helps Bumrah in recovering after the third Test and if India lose the match, the fifth Test encounter may turn into a dead rubber.
"Jasprit Bumrah in the fourth Test, absolutely yes. I've heard rumors that the plan for him was to play in the first, third and fifth Tests. But now, when India are 1-2 behind, the fourth Test becomes very, very crucial. You would definitely want the world's best bowler to play. There is an eight-day gap between the two Tests. It remains to be seen whether the fifth Test is still relevant after the fourth Test, but the relevance of the fourth Test is considerable," he said on Star Sports.
Meanwhile, former England all-rounder Moeen Ali sees shades of Virat Kohli in Shubman Gill's aggressive on-field demeanour, but feels the India batter's approach during the Lord's Test may have triggered a stronger response from the hosts.
Gill has been quite aggressive during the series, and his conduct at Edgbaston mirrored Kohli's famous century celebration at the same venue in 2018.
"My take is, it's fine. I think he's just trying to be competitive in front of a fight and very similar to Virat, I think it's fine," Moeen, currently featuring for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Global Super League (GSL), said during an interaction on Wednesday.
"But then, obviously the other team, what you've done is, I think you've actually brought out the best of England and the fight and that beast England can be.
"And I think it's a different side of England. They've shown all the players that it's great for the series to win. I don't know why it's getting criticised."

England announce playing XI for 4th Test vs India at Manchester

The England cricket team on Monday announced their playing XI for the 4th Test against India in Manchester which is scheduled to start on Wednesday. The hosts made one change to their team which was forced as off-spinner Liam Dawson replaced the injured Shoaib Bashir. Bashir was ruled out of the remainder of the England vs India Test series on Monday due to a finger fracture which he sustained during the third match at Lord's, which his side won to take a 2-1 lead. 'England men's spinner Shoaib Bashir has sustained a fracture to his left finger and has been ruled out of the remainder of the Rothesay Test series against India. He is scheduled to undergo surgery later this week. England will name their squad for the fourth Test at Emirates Old Trafford in the next couple of days,' the ECB said a couple of weeks ago. Our XI for the fourth Test is here 📋 One change from Lord's 👊 — England Cricket (@englandcricket) July 21, 2025 Bashir sustained injury to his little finger of his left hand on the third day of the Lord's Test while bowling to Ravindra Jadeja, who hit a powerful low drive straight back to the bowler. He bowled just 5.5 overs in India's second innings, but had the honour of ending the visiting side's run chase of 193, scalping the wicket of last batter Mohammed Siraj as England notched a memorable 22-run win. Dawson, meanwhile, last played Test cricket for England in July 2017 and will be looking to make his comeback after eight long years. The 35-year-old has been a consistent performer for Hampshire over several years and was named PCA Player of the Year in 2023 and 2024, respectively. Earlier, ECB had also released pacers Sam Cook and Jamie Overton, both of whom have returned to their respective counties to play in the County Championship. England lead India 2-1 in the 5-match Test series with the hosts winning the 1st and the 3rd Tests at Leeds and Lord's respectively while the visitors clawed one win back at Edgbaston.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled one over: Harry Brook on England's moment of payback at Lord's

Harry Brook shed light on what triggered England's fired-up performance in the third Test at Lord's, where the hosts turned the series on its head with a spirited win over India. As the two sides gear up for the fourth Test in Manchester, Brook reflected on the moment that sparked England's aggressive intent—an over from Jasprit Bumrah late on Day said the over, during which the Indian fielders were seen chirping at England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, brought the England team together. What followed was a visible shift in energy, with the home side rallying around their openers and turning the pressure back on India.'We saw them guys going at Crawley and Duckett, so we had a little chat and thought that we're a team and we ought to combine with each other, get together and get back at them,' Brook said. The response from England was not only tactical but emotional. They fed off the confrontation and used it as fuel to mount a comeback, eventually bowling India out and sealing a crucial win to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match admitted that he was surprised by the positive reaction their fiery response received from fans and pundits alike. 'I've had a lot of compliments, since everybody was telling that it was awesome to watch. It looked like it was 11 vs 2 out there when we were fielding. It was good fun, it was tiring, but it made fielding a lot more enjoyable,' he reiterated that the turning point was Bumrah's over and how it influenced the team's mindset. 'We try and play in the spirit of the game as much as possible. Them lads went hard at Crawley and Duckett on that night when Bumrah bowled the single over, we watched that, reassessed, and thought it was the right time to go at them.'With a chance to seal the series in Manchester, England will be hoping to carry forward that same intensity. However, Brook was quick to acknowledge that India are a team known to fight back when under pressure. The stakes are high, not just for the series, but also for both teams starting their new World Test Championship cycle.- EndsMust Watch
