Safeguard Islam's Sanctity, Don't Use Religion For Political Gain
KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 (Bernama) — His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia today issued a stern reminder to community leaders not to use Islam as a political tool for personal interests.
His Majesty said that Islam should instead serve as the foundation, including in national governance, based on values, justice and compassion in line with the complete and perfect principles of syariah, which encompass all aspects of life.
'I would like to remind community leaders not to politicise Islam for personal gain. Instead, they should Islamise politics for the good of the nation.
'Islam is a complete and perfect religion that covers every aspect of life. Therefore, no party should exploit religion for their political interests, spread slander or incite hatred, which in the end will divide society,' His Majesty said.
Sultan Ibrahim said this in his address at the national-level Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M celebration at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here.
His Majesty also said that platforms for dakwah (Islamic preaching) and religious teaching should not be used to promote political agendas, but should remain spaces to strengthen unity and cohesion among the ummah.
Sultan Ibrahim further decreed that all parties must respect the Federal Constitution and never spark hostility in the name of race or religion, which could jeopardise national peace.
'The strong unity we enjoy in this country stems from the Federal Constitution, which outlines the values of togetherness, power equity, responsibility and consensus.
'Let us together safeguard the sanctity of Islam and foster harmonious unity among the ummah, for Islam is a religion of brotherhood and peace,' Sultan Ibrahim said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Politicians and political parties should stop riding on Islam for their own personal interests, decrees His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. Islam should be used to enhance national interests for the good of the people, said Sultan Ibrahim, adding that governance should be rooted in Islamic values. 'I wish to remind community leaders not to politicise Islam for personal gain. Instead, let us practise politics rooted in Islamic values for the benefit of the nation. 'This means governance must be grounded in the Shariah (Islamic law), not influenced by secular or liberal ideologies. 'Islam is a complete and perfect religion, sufficient for all aspects of life. 'No party should exploit religion for political interests or spread slander and hatred that ultimately divide society. 'I have long emphasised that the platforms of propagation and Islamic education should never be used to promote partisan political agendas. 'Let us collectively safeguard the sanctity of Islam and defend the unity of the ummah in harmony,' decreed Sultan Ibrahim. Sultan Ibrahim called upon all Muslims to understand the great responsibility of building a civilisation grounded in Islamic values. 'True development is not merely physical; it must also encompass character, knowledge and humanity. 'Those who strive in the path of Allah with their wealth and lives are promised a high rank in His sight. These are the ones who truly attain success. 'The migration of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Madinah was a historic journey that laid the foundation for the constitution of Madinah – a crucial document that established the principles of justice, consensus and diversity. 'In our country, the unity we enjoy today stems from the Federal Constitution, which enshrines the values of justice, balanced power, shared responsibility and the spirit of consensus. 'Therefore, all parties must uphold the Constitution and never ignite the flames of hostility in the name of race or religion, which could jeopardise national peace. 'Islam is a religion of brotherhood and peace. We must all embrace Islam as a true way of life – not just through outward appearance or clothing that seems Islamic, but through noble character and daily practices that reflect Islamic values. 'I urge those in administration and leadership positions to emulate the qualities of the Prophet Muhammad and never oppress the weak. His Majesty said the Iran-Israel war and prolonged conflict in Gaza clearly show that international laws are no longer sufficient to safeguard global peace. 'It is crucial for ATM to always be prepared and equipped with the latest technology to deal with any possibility, as we don't know who is a friend and who is an enemy,' the King said when officiating the commissioning parade and presentation of appointment letters to ATM cadet officers at Kem Perdana in Sungai Besi here yesterday. At the same time, Sultan Ibrahim reminded the government to ensure that there is no political interference or influence from suppliers in all defence procurement processes. 'ATM's top leadership must also always act with integrity and steer clear of corrupt practices. 'As the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, I will not tolerate anyone who abuses their position for personal gain,' the King added. Sultan Ibrahim also expressed concern over the culture of social media use among military personnel and reminded them not to share everything online, particularly information related to troop deployments, unit locations and other sensitive details. His Majesty said the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel showed how both sides have easily exploited information obtained through technology companies, smart applications and social media to launch attacks. 'I want this to stop immediately. Use sound judgment and refrain from disclosing unnecessary information to the public. It is better to be cautious now than to regret later,' His Majesty said, Bernama reported. The King congratulated the 509 cadet officers who completed their training and reminded them that a military career demands great sacrifices, personal strength, honesty and unwavering loyalty to the King and country. His Majesty also called on them to be leaders who uphold discipline, train their personnel effectively and prioritise their welfare, while also expressing appreciation to the parents who entrusted their beloved children to serve in the armed forces. The ceremony was also attended by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Khaled Nordin, Chief of Defence Forces Jen Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar, Army chief Jen Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Dr Zulhelmy Ithnain and Air Force chief Jen Datuk Muhamad Norazlan Aris.
