Tamils must oppose any attempt to appropriate Tiruvalluvar, says CM Stalin
The CM was speaking after releasing the commentary of poet Vairamthu for Tirukkural. Former union finance minister P Chidambaram received the first copy.
Charging that there are efforts to appropriate Tiruvalluvar and his ideas, Stalin said, just because there is no one among them to celebrate in the Aryan tradition, they are trying to steal Tiruvalluvar. "More than stealing, the truth is that they are attempting to deceive us. If they try to appropriate Tirukkural, the intensity of his ideas alone will scorch them," the CM added.
Stating that even after 2,000 years, Tiruvalluvar's view that all beings are equal by birth remains just as necessary, Stalin said. "We must intensify efforts for making Tirukkural as India's national scripture. Further, a mega institution should be established in Delhi to propagate the greatness of Tirukkural. Also, we must engage ourselves in sowing the meaning of Tirukkural into Indian society," the CM said.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Maratha Mandal and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maratha Navayuvak Mandal have expressed immense joy following UNESCO's declaration of 12 sites associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as World Heritage Sites. These sites, now recognised as the 'Maratha Military Landscapes of India,' are hailed as living examples of the Maratha Empire's valour and Indian architectural prowess. Prakash Patil, President of the Maratha Mandal, and Dilip Jagtap, General Secretary, alongside Madan Jadhav, President of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maratha Navayuvak Mandal, called the recognition a matter of pride for all of India, not just Maharashtra. They extended congratulations to all involved for UNESCO's acknowledgement of the historical and cultural significance of these forts as World Heritage. The decision was made during the 47th meeting of the World Heritage Committee. The organisations highlighted that the world will now become acquainted with Chhatrapati Shivaji's strategic warfare, foresight, and the architectural brilliance embedded within these forts. The 12 recognised sites include 11 forts in Maharashtra: Salher Fort (Nashik), Panhala Fort (Kolhapur), Shivneri Fort and Rajgarh Fort (Pune), Khanderi Fort, and Rajyagarh Fort (Raigad), Pratapgarh Fort (Satara), Suvarnagiri Fort (Ratnagiri), Vijaydurg Fort and Sindhudurg Fort (Sindhudurg). Additionally, Jinji Fort, located in Villapuram, Tamil Nadu, is also included. These forts, built in harmony with their geographical features, have now received UNESCO's World Heritage designation. The Maratha leaders emphasised that these forts exemplify Maratha freedom and their struggle against Mughal rule. They anticipate that this recognition will familiarise the world with Chhatrapati Shivaji's military policies and vision, while also boosting tourism in India.

Today in Politics: Ahead of Monsoon Session in Parliament, Sonia Gandhi to lead Cong strategy meeting
A week ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which kicks off on July 21 and will run till August 21, Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi has called a meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Strategy group on Tuesday. The next Parliament session is expected to be stormy, with the Opposition expected to raise issues ranging from the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor to the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The meeting is expected to be attended by senior party leaders in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The Congress has already said it wants the Bihar SIR to be scrapped, alleging that it is 'unconstitutional' and is aimed at disenfranchising voters. The party is also likely to seek answers from the government on what it claims were 'lapses and losses' during Operation Sindoor and the circumstances that led to the cessation of hostilities following US President Donald Trump's claims of mediation in the India-Pakistan conflict. The issue of US tariffs against India is also likely to be taken up during the discussions, in addition to the state of the economy, prices and unemployment. The impeachment motion against Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court is also likely to come up in the Rajya Sabha Chairman. Once the strategy on issues that the party wants to raise in Parliament is finalised, the Congress will speak to other Opposition parties to evolve a joint plan of action for the Monsoon Session, sources said. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, however, is expected to appear in a Lucknow court on Tuesday in connection to his alleged remarks on the Armed Forces. Meanwhile, in Karnataka, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) will hold a meeting of its backward classes advisory committee in Bengaluru on Tuesday. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, former CMs, current and former ministers of various states will participate in the meeting, the party said in a statement. NCP(SP) general body meeting The Sharad Pawar-led NCP(SP) is set to hold its general body meeting on Tuesday ahead of the crucial local body elections in Maharashtra. The meeting is being held amid reports that the party's Maharashtra chief Jayant Patil is set to resign to make way for a new face. An eight-term MLA and former state Cabinet minister, Patil has served as the state party chief since 2018, when the NCP was still undivided. A Sharad Pawar loyalist who stayed put after Ajit Pawar rebelled and split the party in 2023, Patil had hinted at stepping down from his post during the NCP(SP)'s foundation day events in June. Stalin's public outreach On Tuesday, Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin will inaugurate the 'Ungaludan Stalin (Stalin with you)' initiative for doorstep delivery of government services and schemes ahead of the Assembly elections in 2026. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey cites Himalayan 'CIA operation', claims Nehru surrendered to US
File photo: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey (Picture credit: PTI) NEW DELHI: As Parliament's monsoon session approaches, the stage seems to be getting set for a BJP-Congress duel over "foreign interference", with BJP MP Nishikant Dubey circulating documents about Jawaharlal Nehru govt's decision to let US's Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) install "two nuclear-powered devices" high in the Himalayas to monitor Chinese preparations for nuclear tests. In a post of X, Dubey attached a copy of an April 1978 letter from members of the US Congress addressed to the then US president Jimmy Carter. The letter expressed concern about a "CIA operation" in India in the 1960s, which the US foreign intelligence agency apparently carried out without keeping Indian government in the loop. The letter cited an 'Outside' article, published by Rolling Stone. According to author Howard Kohn there were "two nuclear-powered monitoring devices", allegedly for surveillance of Chinese atomic weapons testing, high in the Himalayas. The devices, containing plutonium, were placed on two mountains, one of which, Nanda Devi, is the source of India's Ganges River, the holy river for millions of Hindus, the letter stated. The then Congress government's decision to let CIA surveil on China's plans for nuclear tests has long been an open secret in many quarters. Dubey linked Nehru government's decision and disapparance of the devices to natural calamities by citing the article which said the untraceable device could be "leaking plutonium into the Ganges. If this is true, it would be a serious problem, indeed". Sharing the letter, Dubey asked whether Kedarnath disaster, Teesta River flooding, melting glaciers in Gangotri and Yamunotri, and even decreasing water level of Ganga could be linked to this incident. "The Nehru-Gandhi family bowed before America. Rahul Gandhi ji, Congress is responsible for the destruction of farmers and played with India's faith..." Dubey posted on X.
