Martin Compston's 'terrific mystery' series now free to stream
Line of Duty aficionados are in for a surprise as ITVX has added a lesser-known series featuring Martin Compston to its streaming service.
The drama, which stars Jodhi May from Dune Prophecy and Spooks' Lorraine Burroughs, is adapted from Dorothy Koomson's novel.
It tells the tale of two former friends who come back together after 17 years, having once been accused of killing their schoolteacher (portrayed by Compston) during their teenage years.
The series in question is The Ice Cream Girls, which at the time of its original airing was hailed by viewers as "a terrific mystery".
A fan commented on IMDb: "You will be entertained and gripped until the surprising conclusion."
This short series consists of only three episodes, allowing UK viewers to binge-watch it for free, albeit with advertisements.
Another viewer rated it highly with 9 out of 10 stars, stating: "I have to admit I didn't read the book and I can't make a parallel between it and the series but maybe I don't have to."
They continued: "This was another perspective of the Ice Cream Girls story and it can be appreciated even if you haven't read the book.
"I didn't expect the ending and as I have understood it is different from the book, but I have really enjoyed it."
The show garnered impressive ratings, with its premiere episode attracting 5.53 million viewers.
Shot in Bray, County Wicklow, the location stands in for the seaside city of Brighton.
Georgina Campbell and Holli Dempsey star as the younger versions of Serena Gorringe and Poppy Carlisle, the duo implicated in the murder.
Sam Wollaston from The Guardian shared his thoughts on the premiere, remarking: "There's an obviousness to it. An ITV drama-ness about it. It's so consciously trying to be a psychological thriller, not just your bog-standard thriller."
He continued, expressing his commitment despite reservations: "I'll watch the rest, because it's enthralling enough for me to want to know what happens, or rather what happened. But I won't be lying awake at night thinking about it."
The gripping series, The Ice Cream Girls, is currently available for streaming on ITVX.

The series aims to understand all viewpoints and how abuse can impact every single person within a family setting. "Unforgivable examines the extensive ripple effect of abuse from multiple perspectives and how those involved can try to move forwards in the midst of the devastation," explained the BBC. Its synopsis reads: "Having served his prison sentence, Joe (Bobby Schofield) arrives at St Maura's, an institution which offers him a home and rehabilitation after his release. With the support of Katherine (Anna Maxwell Martin), an ex-nun, Joe undertakes therapy sessions in the hope of understanding what led him to commit the abuse." The overview further states: "Simultaneously, his sister, Anna (Anna Friel), is dealing with the enormous impact that Joe's crime has had on her family - her sons, Tom (Austin Haynes) and Peter (Finn McParland), and her father, Brian (David Threlfall)." Who is in the cast of Unforgivable? Line of Duty star Anna, plays the role of Katherine, a former nun who is working at the rehabilitation institution as a therapist and supporting Joe. Anna Friel, of Brookside fame and best known for her role as Beth Jordache on the soap, plays Joe's sister Anna, who is desperately trying to move on with her life while fiercely guarding her two sons. David Threlfall stars as Anna's angry father, who is furious that she has instigated contact with her brother Joe. Other members of the star-studded cast include Adolescence actor Austin Haynes, Fin McParland, Mark Womack, Paddy Rowan and Phina Oruche. With a stellar cast and compelling script, Unforgivable is certainly not going to be a BBC drama you'd want to miss.

A Coronation Street exit has been confirmed as Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) received news from a social worker in tonight's episode. Sally and husband Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) have been fostering the Michaelis kids, following their parents' arrests. John twist in ITVX Emmerdale release as unexpected legend ‘set to uncover' truth

Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) has started a new job in Emmerdale – but currently remains unaware of how close he is to a game-changing secret. Paddy has been struggling with low confidence ever since he was attacked by a dog on Celia's (Jaye Griffiths) farm. In the hospital, Paddy was left devastated when dad Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) berated him. He commented on Paddy's mental health, called him a 'doormat', and reckoned people tip toe around him because they're worried he might feel suicidal again. In the aftermath, the comments massively knocked Paddy and on top of this, he was also dealing with a fear of large dogs, which seriously impacted his work at the vets. Paddy has made progress and recently spent time with Chip the dog. When it comes to his confidence levels though, he's continuing to try and build them up again by helping others through a mental health charity. Paddy was being a bit coy with Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) in tonight's episode and didn't want to tell him what he was really planning on doing with his afternoon off. Meanwhile, John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) had spent the day consumed with guilt after letting Owen Michaels (Simon Haines) die. The troubled character was found unconscious by John towards the end of last week, but died when John failed to call an ambulance for him. Instead, John wrote a note on Owen's laptop that confirmed he killed Nate Robinson. John believed that this would help Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh) with closure and moving forward – but it just made things worse. Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) pointed out to John that Cain and Tracy will never get what they want when it comes to justice for Nate, because Owen is no longer here.
