Lt General Dinesh Rana assumes charge as 18th Commander-in-Chief of Andaman and Nicobar Command
Rana relinquished the appointment of Director General Defence Intelligence Agency and Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff Intelligence on May 31.
In a post on social media X, Headquarters of the Integrated Defence Staff wrote, 'Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, #CISC & All Ranks of HQ IDS congratulate and wish him best of luck in future endeavours.'
Rana was commissioned into the 10th Battalion of the Garhwal Rifles on December 19, 1987 and commanded the same battalion.
In a career spanning over 37 years, the General Officer has held diverse operational, instructional, and staff appointments across various terrains and theatres. His service includes tenures with the Indian Military Training Team and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. He has commanded an Infantry Brigade and Division in the Eastern Sector and subsequently led the Gajraj Corps along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Rana has also served as an instructor at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. His staff appointments include Brigade Major of an Independent Armoured Brigade, Deputy Director General Staff Duties, Brigadier Military Intelligence (East), Provost Marshal, and Director General Staff Duties at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Army).
Prior to taking over as CINCAN, the General Officer served as Director General, Defence Intelligence Agency, making history as the first Chief of Defence Intelligence to be elevated to the rank of Commander-in-Chief -- a reflection of the growing importance of defence intelligence and jointmanship in India's military leadership.
For his distinguished service, Lt Gen Rana has been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Yudh Seva Medal (YSM), Sena Medal (SM), and the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card. As a young officer, he earned the Sena Medal and COAS Commendation for gallantry in Kashmir. He also holds a Ph.D. in China's defence modernisation. (ANI)

"It will happen tomorrow in Dhubri's Chappar. No outsider should be allowed to enter Bodoland," he declared. Earlier on July 5, CM Sarma informed that 18 Bangladeshis, living without valid documents in Assam, were pushed back. He said the pushbacks were done from the Cachar and Sribhumi districts. "Oh look who's going back to their home? In Assam, we welcome guests with open arms but those trying to illegally prolong their stay are treated with the special gesture of PUSHBACK," Sarma said in a post on X. "18 illegal Bangladeshis pushed back today in wee hours from Cachar and Sribhumi," he added.

Yogi conducts aerial survey, says anyone disrupting Kanwar Yatra, defiling food items won't be spared
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday reviewed preparations for the Kanwar Yatra, conducted an aerial survey of the route from the Hindon airport in Ghaziabad to Bijnor in western Uttar Pradesh, issued instructions to officials concerned and asserted that no individual causing any kind of disorder or disruption during the yatra should be spared. (ANI VIDEO GRAB) He directed officials to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards those attempting to defile food items or engage in similar disrespectful acts. He stressed that those involved in such actions must face the strictest punishment so that the sacred nature of the Kanwar Yatra is not compromised. The Kanwar Yatra will start on July 11 with the commencement of the Hindu holy month of Shravan or Sawan. The yatra will end on July 23. 'CM Yogi arrived at Hindon airport in Ghaziabad from Lucknow via state aircraft. He then conducted an aerial survey of the Kanwar Yatra route by helicopter, issuing necessary instructions to officials,' an official statement said. The chief minister issued instructions to officials to ensure seamless arrangements and security of devotees. He placed special emphasis on maintaining the sanctity of the yatra, ensuring that the faith and enthusiasm of lakhs of devotees remain undisturbed. 'The environment of the yatra must remain peaceful and well-organised at all times,' he said. Yogi Adityanath instructed officials to ensure comprehensive arrangements for tents, food, and other essential facilities along the route. He also directed that cleanliness, electricity, and lighting arrangements along the Kanwar path be of the highest standard. 'Every effort must be made to ensure the yatra is completed smoothly and without incident.' He underlined the importance of involving voluntary organisations and social groups to strengthen arrangements. The Kanwar Yatra route mostly falls in western Uttar Pradesh. Police and security personnel will be deployed on the 540-km Kanwar route covering Meerut, Bulandshahr, Baghpat, and Hapur, according to DIG Meerut range Kalanadhi Naithani. A total of 838 rest camps have been set up, including 464 in Meerut, 176 in Bulandshahr, 90 in Baghpat, and 108 in Hapur. During the Kanwar Yatra, Kanwariyas collect water from the Ganga and carry it hundreds of kilometres to offer it to the shrines of Lord Shiva. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh minister AK Sharma said, 'This one month is like a celebration throughout the country. We are making sure the facilities are better than last year's. Streetlights are being installed throughout the Kanwar route.'

Himachal landslide: death toll climbs to 80 amid ongoing rescue ops; damages estimated at Rs 692 crore so far
Amid incessant rainfall, the death toll due to cloudbursts and landslides in Himachal Pradesh climbed to 80. Of these, 52 people died in rain-related incidents and 28 others due to accidents, new agency ANI reported, citing a report by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA). Majority of the fatalities have been directly attributed to landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts. Mandi district remained the worst-hit due to the heavy rains in Himachal this monsoon, reporting 17 rain-related deaths. The SDMA report took stock of incidents from June 20 to July 7, attributing 28 deaths to 'other causes' including electrocution, snake bites, and falls from steep terrain. 'As per cumulative data compiled till July 7, the state has recorded 80 deaths–52 from rain-induced incidents, 28 from road accidents,' an SDMA official said, as quoted by the report. According to the report, 128 people were left injured due to the rains. 320 houses fully damaged, 38 partially damaged, and 10,254 livestock and poultry deaths were reported in Himachal during the period of 17 days. Public infrastructure sustained a damage of over Rs 692 crore due to the rains. Search and rescue operations are still underway in Himachal, with drones and sniffer dogs deployed to rescue the dozens of people still missing due to the flash floods and landslides in the state. About 250 personnel from the National and State Disaster Response Forces, Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Home Guards, along with the administration and locals, are undertaking the search and rescue work. Several leaders including Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut, Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, state BJP chief Rajiv Bindal, and several cabinet ministers have visited the affected areas. According to the state government, 241 water supply projects were damaged in the affected areas, including the largest scheme worth Rs 121 crore in the Seraj and Balichowki areas. As light to moderate rain continued to lash parts of Himachal Pradesh over the weekend, the local MeT office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain at isolated places in four districts of Una, Hamirpur, Solan and Sirmaur districts till Wednesday.
