Akhilesh Kumar Dixit appointed chief executive of state-run Energy Efficiency Services
Dixit joins EESL from Power Grid Corp., where he worked in multiple senior roles across core business functions. He is a graduate in electrical engineering from Madan Mohan Technical University, Gorakhpur and holds a postgraduate diploma in business management (PGDBM) from the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon.
In a career spanning 32 years, he has held roles across domains including substation and transmission line operations, business development, corporate social responsibility (CSR), human resources and procurement.
'I look forward to building on EESL's strong legacy while charting a bold path forward—one that integrates smart technologies, fosters inclusive growth, and delivers measurable impact for our nation,' Dixit was quoted as saying in a company statement announcing his appointment.
As the new CEO, Dixit will now oversee the transformation of EESL into a next-generation energy solutions provider, driving innovation, accelerating the adoption of sustainable technologies and strengthening India's energy efficiency mission.
EESL is an energy service company which enables consumers, industries and governments to manage their energy needs through energy-efficient technologies. Founded in 2009, EESL is promoted by the ministry of power as a joint venture of four public-sector undertakings, including NTPC Ltd, Power Finance Corp. Ltd, REC Ltd and Powergrid Corp.
EESL is implementing the world's largest energy efficiency portfolio across sectors like lighting, buildings, industry electric mobility, smart metering, agriculture, among others, at an enormous scale. EESL's energy efficiency solutions have saved India over 47 billion kWh energy annually while reducing 36.5 million tonnes of carbon emission, according to the company website.

CM steps in to protect interests of mango farmers
Kuppam (Chittoor district): Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has called on pulp industries and processing units to immediately step up and procure mangoes from farmers. At a high-level meeting held at his residence in Kuppam on Thursday, Naidu assured farmers that the state government was committed to protecting their interests and would also provide necessary assistance to industries to keep the supply chain moving. The meeting brought together mango farmers, industry representatives, and government officials from the erstwhile Chittoor district. Officials informed the Chief Minister that while 1.12 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes have already been procured, an additional 1.7 lakh metric tonnes are expected to be purchased. Farmers expressed frustration that pulp industries were holding back purchases, citing limited orders, lack of storage, and delays of up to four days just to unload produce. Responding to these concerns, Naidu urged industries to start immediate procurement to prevent losses at the farm level. He said the government would stand by them through policy-level support and infrastructure facilitation. Industry leaders flagged other pressing issues such as high import duties in European markets, while countries like Pakistan and those in Africa enjoyed tariff-free access. They urged the CM to take up the matter with the Centre and also pushed for a reduction in GST on mango pulp from 12 per cent to 5 per cent. Naidu said the government had already written to the Centre on GST and assured them he would pursue it again. Touching on the economics of mango farming, Naidu noted that yields currently range from 6 to 12 tonnes per acre. He stressed the need to ensure fair pricing for farmers while making processing units economically viable. He instructed industries to offer Rs 8 per kg without delay and to streamline the procurement process. The possibility of introducing mango juice in the midday meal scheme for schoolchildren was also raised. Naidu responded that eggs were already being provided as a nutritional supplement but agreed to examine the idea further. Calling for a shift to natural farming, the Chief Minister encouraged mango farmers to minimise chemical use and embrace sustainable practices. 'Global markets demand quality. Our produce must meet international standards through testing, tracing, and certification,' he said. Naidu also warned farmers against being misled by those attempting to politicise the situation. 'There are people trying to provoke you. Don't fall for their games. The government is solidly behind you,' he said. In an earlier media interaction, he criticised previous governments for failing to offer tangible support mango farmers. 'This year's crop is excellent, but the market is weak. That's why we must focus on food processing and value addition,' he added. Collector Sumit Kumar, horticulture commissioner Srinivasulu Reddy, Puthalapattu MLA K Murali Mohan, and MLC K Srikanth were among those present.

Gadkari opens purse strings for highway projects across Jharkhand
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said the Centre is committed to strengthening the infrastructure of Jharkhand and will implement national highway projects worth Rs 2 lakh crore in the state. Addressing a public meeting in Garhwa, the minister said so far NH projects worth Rs 40,000 crore have been completed in the state and work is in progress on projects worth Rs 70,000 crore. Apart from this, schemes worth Rs 75,000 crore are in the pipeline. The minister was in Jharkhand to inaugurate and lay foundation stones of multiple national highway projects worth Rs 6,350 crore. In Garhwa, he launched two important projects — inaugurated a 23-km-long four-lane highway from Shankha to Khajuri, built for Rs 1,130 crore, and laid the foundation stone for a Rs 1,330-crore project for widening (four-lane) a 32-km stretch of NH-39 from the Chhattisgarh–Jharkhand interstate border to Gumla. He made a series of infrastructure-related declarations for Ranchi and other parts of Jharkhand. Speaking in Ranchi during the inauguration of the city's elevated flyover, Gadkari said India's logistics cost, once as high as 16% of the GDP, has now come down to 10% and will further reduce to 9% by the end of this year. 'This will help boost exports, promote industrial growth and generate employment across sectors,' he said. The minister announced several ongoing and new national highway and expressway projects across Jharkhand. Among the major corridors mentioned were the Rs 40,000-crore Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata corridor, Rs 10,000-crore Ranchi–Patna economic corridor (88% work completed), Rs 13,000-crore Ranchi–Varanasi four-lane upgrade (60% completed) and Rs 18,000-crore Raipur–Dhanbad four-lane economic corridor (77% completed). He also said that 60% of the work on the Rs 35,000-crore Delhi–Kolkata six-lane corridor was over; 146 km of the corridor passes through Jharkhand. Apart from these, Gadkari announced new projects including a Rs 8,000-crore economic corridor (121 km in Jharkhand) that will reduce the Ranchi–Odisha route by nearly 100 km, and a Rs 7,000-crore 90-km stretch of the Raxaul–Haldia expressway passing through the state, which will connect regions of Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal to the Haldia port. He also mentioned bypasses, elevated roads and underpasses in Ranchi, Deoghar, Jamshedpur and other cities worth thousands of crores aimed at improving traffic flow and connectivity. Gadkari said there is no shortage of funds for infrastructure development in Jharkhand. 'Funds are not a constraint. The only hurdles are environment and forest clearances and land acquisition. The state government must resolve these issues quickly. Once that is done, I will ensure all projects are funded and implemented without delay.' Speaking in Garhwa, Gadkari said the Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata Greenfield Corridor worth Rs 36,000 crore will be completed by March 2028. The Ranchi–Varanasi Economic Corridor worth Rs 12,800 crore will be ready by January 2028. He said that Jharkhand's NH network, which was 2,600 km in 2014, has now increased to 4,470 km. Gadkari launches road projects worth 4.6k crore in state
1 2 3 Ranchi/Garhwa: Union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari laid foundation stones of three road projects worth Rs 1,700 crore and inaugurated seven road projects worth Rs 4,650 crore in the state on Thursday at two separate programmes held in Ranchi and Garhwa. Stating that the Centre is already working on projects worth Rs 2 lakh crore in Jharkhand, Gadkari said plans are afoot for additional projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore in the state. In Garhwa, Gadkari laid the foundation stone for Rs 1,330 crore four-lane project measuring 32 km from Chattisgarh-Jharkhand border to Gumla on NH-43. That apart, he inaugurated the Rs 1,130 crore four-lane Garhwa bypass road measuring 22.73 km on NH-75 under the Ranchi-Varanasi economic corridor. With the construction of the by-pass road from to Khajuri village (Garhwa district), the residents heaved a sigh of relief. The by-pass from Shankha village (Palamu district) to Khajuri village (Garhwa district) links about two dozen villages in Palamu and Garhwa. He also sanctioned Garhwa-Ambikapur four-lane road and few other projects worth around Rs 2,460 crore in Garhwa district. Setting timelines for a few ongoing projects, he said that the Rs 36,000-crore Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata corridor will be over by March 2028. A six lane between Delhi-Kolkata estimated around Rs 31,700-crore will be completed by June 2026 and Ranchi-Patna four-lane economic corridor worth Rs 8,900 crore is eyeing December 2029 deadline. State finance minister Radhakrishana Kishore, who was present in Garhwa, cited how Garhwa and Palamu have stopped receiving security related expenditure (SRE) scheme owing to Naxal menace but has now stopped getting it. "Centre says that Naxal menace is now over in Garhwa and Palamu but I personally believe that it is contained only because of 196 police pickets. Remove those pickets, and you will realise how troublesome law and order is here again. Hence, we must continue to get those funds to address the challenges in this region," he said, adding that these regions are rain shadow area and needs special assistance to stop migration and further development projects. Gadkari advised the minister to get an official order passed from the govt and he will help in building over 1,000 ponds through NHAI free of cost like he did in Vidharbha (Maharashtra) to tide over water crisis in farm dominated areas.
