Bengaluru's Namma Metro to allow ticket booking via popular mobility apps: Report
In good news for commuters, getting around Bengaluru on public transport is about to become a lot easier. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is working on a new initiative that will let Namma Metro passengers book tickets through a range of popular mobility apps, thanks to its upcoming integration with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), The Hindu reported. Bengaluru Namma Metro tickets can now be booked using apps such as Rapido, Tummoc etc.
This move will enhance last mile connectivity and allow commuters to plan and pay for their entire trip - whether it's hopping into an auto, catching a BMTC bus, or riding the metro - all from a single app like Tummoc, Rapido, and several others. The goal is to offer a seamless, door-to-door travel experience and reduce the hassle of switching between multiple platforms, officials said, as per the report.
With the ONDC platform partnering with over ten mobility apps, commuters will be able to choose their preferred app to book everything they need for their journey in one go, a BMRCL official told the publication.
The project is part of a larger push towards integrated public transport, making it easier for people to connect different legs of their trip. Whether it's buying a metro ticket, recharging a smart card, or getting a bus pass, all of it will soon be possible from a single digital platform. BMRCL has already taken steps in this direction by partnering with a private tech company to bring metro ticketing to multiple apps, the report stated.
Other efforts include QR code-based ticketing through WhatsApp (launched in 2022), as well as collaborations with Paytm and Amazon Pay for smart card top-ups and mobile ticketing. However, until now, those solutions didn't fully address first and last-mile transport needs.
This digital shift will also promote the use of public transport by reducing wait times and improving accessibility. With the option to plan multi-modal routes in one go, commuters can avoid juggling multiple apps and focus more on getting to their destination.

For the first time in the history of Rath Yatra, Odisha Police has deployed advanced drone surveillance technology across key areas of the city—enabling real-time aerial monitoring of crowd movements, traffic flow and potential emergencies. Apart from drones, the police have also installed 275 AI-powered CCTV cameras, a real-time WhatsApp chatbot for public assistance and an Integrated Command and Control Centre for centralised coordination and data-driven decision-making, an official said.

Cancel permits if autos charge more: Minister
Almost two weeks after public anguish over the exorbitant rise in auto fares following the ban on bike-taxi operations in the state, transport minister Ramalinga Reddy Saturday instructed the transport commissioner to take action against ride-hailing mobile apps and regular autos if they are found charging illegal fares. Instructions have been given to transport department officials to cancel auto permits and book cases for illegal fare the direction came from the minister hours after #stepdowntransportminister was trending on social media platform X over the ban on bike taxis. Ramalinga Reddy told TOI he himself has received complaints from the public over auto drivers and aggregators charging exorbitant fares. The letter addressed to the transport commissioner states that on June 18, 2025, the ride-hailing mobile app Rapido was charging ₹100.9 per km. 'This kind of daylight robbery is unpardonable and strict action should be taken,' the letter states. Reddy cited ride-hailing apps as the reason for exorbitant fares being charged. 'A majority of auto drivers have attached their vehicles with ride-hailing apps. These apps, instead of following fare rules of the govt, are charging higher auto fares and other fees,' he said, adding: 'Enforcement staff will identify irregularities and take action. No auto drivers should collect more fare from passenger.' Acting on HC order: Reddy On the trending hashtag, the minister said, 'We've acted against bike-taxi operations as per the high court order. On social media, people do make comments about the decision taken by authorities, I don't have much to say about that. Earlier, bike-taxi operations were illegally operated. It is to say that the state govt does not support illegal operations.' Following the letter from the minister, transport commissioner Yogeesh AM told TOI that enforcement officials have been asked to act on the illegal collection of fares. 'When customers street hail an auto, the driver should charge the fare as fixed by the regional transport authority. Ride-hailing apps can charge a 10% service tax in addition to the fares fixed by RTA. Other fees and charges on customers are illegal.' As per the last revision in 2022, RTA has fixed Rs 30 for the first 2km and Rs 15 per km thereafter.

A bank manager and his wife in Hanumakonda were defrauded of ₹66 lakh by cybercriminals posing as stock market investment firm representatives. Lured by promises of high returns, the couple transferred funds between February and May. HYDERABAD: A senior bank manager and his wife were duped of 66 lakh by fraudsters posing as representatives of stock market investment and trading firms. Between Feb and May, the victims transferred the funds to bank accounts specified by the fraudsters. Based on the banker's complaint, a case was filed at the cyber security bureau's Warangal police station on Friday. The senior manager, employed at a bank in Hanumakonda, alleged that cybercriminals posed as stock market brokers contacted his wife through Facebook advertisement and swindled 66 lakh. According to the complainant, his wife clicked on a post in late Jan purporting to represent two stock trading companies. This led to WhatsApp chats from various phone numbers, where fraudsters posing as executives of companies promised returns of 300% to 400% via block, IPO, and FoF tradings.
