VinFast recruits 200 polytechnic students trained under Naan Mudhalvan skill development drive
These students were trained under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme's targeted skill development programme.
After the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government last year, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid the foundation for the VinFast Auto Limited's electric car manufacturing unit.
Two SUV models
Spread across 408 acres in the SIPCOT Industrial Complex at Sillanathan, the project is being developed on an outlay of ₹16,000 crore. The company plans to make two electric premium SUV models, VF7 and VF6, with a planned annual production capacity of 1,50,000 vehicles. The project is expected to generate more than 3,500 jobs in the next five years. As part of the recruitment initiative, the company has begun on-boarding 200 polytechnic students, a milestone for the company in creating jobs for the local talent.
Eligibility criteria
VinFast has its specific eligibility criteria, requiring candidates to be current or recent graduates, with no arrears. In response, 344 students from nine polytechnic colleges across the district were trained. Two are government colleges and seven are private colleges. The training ran from March 17 to April 8 this year, with sessions each day comprising lectures, group discussions, and mock tests. The mock tests included the consolidated question paper of physics, chemistry, quantitative aptitude, English, and current affairs.
Collector K. Elambahavath said, 'On the day of the recruitment drive, of the 344 trained students, 304 appeared, and around 229 were short-listed. Based on other criteria, 200 individuals were recruited for the company and the on-boarding process has now begun.'
Of the selected candidates, 105 students are from the government polytechnic colleges in Thoothukudi and Ettayapuram and 95 are from private colleges. The candidates are of the disciplines of Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical, Automobile, and Logistics Engineering.

Delhi Launches Tourism Fellowship, To Offer Rs 50,000 Monthly
The Delhi government on Monday launched the Tourism and Heritage Fellowship Program, which aims at preserving and promoting the national capital's historical and cultural heritage, and strengthening the grassroots community to encourage tourism. Under the one-year fellowship, implemented by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), 40 young professionals will be selected every year and awarded a monthly stipend of Rs 50,000. According to an official statement, the initiative seeks to create a pool of trained youth who will directly contribute to government-led tourism and heritage efforts. "This initiative will allow youth to directly participate in preserving and promoting Delhi's heritage. It reflects our commitment to self-reliance and local talent under the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat," Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, while announcing the fellowship at a launch event, calling it a "strategic step" to involve young professionals in the national capital's tourism sector. The Chief Minister further said that the applicants must be below 35 years of age, hold a graduate degree, and have at least one year of experience in tourism or a related field. Preference will be given to those with a degree or postgraduate qualification in tourism, she said. "Proficiency in Hindi and English, along with strong digital skills, is mandatory," the official statement noted. The participants will work on a wide range of activities, including conducting heritage walks and guided tours, content creation, tourism marketing, event coordination, and volunteering at culturally-rich places like Dilli Haat and the Garden of Five Senses. "The participants will also assist with film shoot facilitation and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) activities," the statement read. "The program is designed to tap into the energy and creativity of our youth while strengthening the institutional framework of tourism in the city," Ms Gupta said. The fellowship would serve as a "bridge between the government and the next generation of cultural ambassadors," she added. The applications for the one-year fellowship are expected to open in the coming weeks, with the first batch set to be trained later this year. At the end of the fellowship, participants will receive a certificate of completion. Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra was also present at the launch.

Ukraine: Yulia Svyrydenko, who championed a vital economic accord between Ukraine and the United States, defines a generation of young Ukrainian politicians who have steered their country through the tumult of war. The 39-year-old, who was appointed to lead Ukraine's teetering economy just months before the Kremlin launched its full-scale assault in February 2022, was put forward on Monday by President Volodymyr Zelensky to be the country's next prime minister. Svyrydenko gained prominence this year during fraught negotiations around the minerals deal that nearly derailed ties between Kyiv and its most important military ally. The deal was central to a disastrous televised spat between Zelensky and US President Donald Trump in February 2025. 'Young, smart, determined' She would be taking over the helm at a precarious moment for the country that is exhausted after more than three years of full-scale war and dependent on allies broad for its survival. The role of prime minister does not typically include a say on military strategy or the frontline war effort, where Zelensky and his military chiefs call the shots. Yet Svyrydenko is central to a young generation of Ukrainian leaders, like Zelensky, who have steered the country through the Russian invasion and contrast starkly with the Soviet-styled elites that dominate in Russia. She was not yet 30 when the Kremlin helped foment a violent overthrow of authorities in eastern Ukraine, as popular protests demanded Kyiv pursue closer integration with Europe. And her native region of Chernigiv, which borders Russia and its war ally Belarus, was briefly occupied at the start of the invasion launched in February 2022. "Svyrydenko is emblematic of the Ukrainian people's resilience," then-US Secretary of Commerce Rina Raimondo wrote of her in Time Magazine in 2023. "With young, smart, and determined leaders like her at the helm, Ukraine's postwar future is looking brighter than ever," Raimondo added. In infrequent public appearances Svyrydenko is soft-spoken but communicates purposefully at a break-neck-pace in Ukrainian or accented English. She also moved through the ranks of government quickly, after graduating with honours from the National University of Trade and Economics and a brief spell in the private sector. She held a variety of posts in her native Chernigiv region before being appointed by presidential decree as deputy head of the president's office in 2020. Less than one year later, she became a deputy prime minister and economy minister. Ukrainian media has reported that Svyrydenko has long held political ambitions. RBC-Ukraine, a business publication, said that Zelensky had blocked her previous attempts to become prime minister, citing sources that she would be better-suited to the role in a post-war period. Svyrydenko has said that civil service was a part of her life since childhood, when both her parents worked in government. "I saw how they devoted themselves to serving the community, how their hometown and its improvement were their core values," she recently told Ukrainian media.

Losses notwithstanding, Bharathiar University goes ahead with 2025-26 admissions of PG Centre in Erode
Bharathiar University is going ahead with admissions for 2025-26 session at its Post Graduate Extension and Research Centre in Erode, amid speculations that it would be closed down. Online registrations have been invited from eligible candidates till the end of July, for admission to PG programmes in Tamil, English literature, Mathematics, Computer Science, M.B.A. and M.C.A. The university had sought to close down the centre due to the meagre admissions and high expenditure, but had to shelve its move due to political intervention, it is learnt. Aspiring candidates have been instructed to apply online through the admission portal using the link from. Candidates appearing for the final year/semester examinations of the UG degree were also invited to apply. The filled in application downloaded from the portal should be filled in and enclosed with photocopies of S.S.L.C, U.G. degree statement of marks, community certificate, provisional certificate and degree certificate, and sent to The Director incharge of Bharathiar University PG Extension and Research Centre before July 31, 2025, the applicants have been told. For M.B.A and M.C.A. degree courses, admission will be carried out under single window system through Department of Technical Education at Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. The university authorities are learnt to have suggested to the Higher Education department that the losses in running the centre could be lessened if the centre is shifted to the Chikkiah Government Arts and Science College within Erode city. University sources said the salaries of the teaching and non-teaching staff were being paid notwithstanding the losses in running the centre. There were seven regular staff and more number of guest lecturers. While the salaries of regular staff have been settled, the remuneration only for the month of May (for break in service) was not paid to the guest lecturers, university sources claimed.
