JA on F1 podcast: Examining the Global F1 Fan Survey results

Yahoo3 days ago
This week we get behind the numbers to find out what fans think of Formula 1, as the 2025 Global F1 Fan Survey is launched, ahead of the British Grand Prix. Listen here.
Over 100,000 respondents took part from 186 countries. Fans were self-selecting, so this isn't a complete picture of all F1 fans worldwide, but what it does show is that F1 is managing the juggling act of attracting new audiences, while keeping its long-standing supporters on board. And the responses show there is quite a bit of common ground between the two cohorts, not least that the sporting product of F1 is the most important element for both.

We also look at the box office numbers for the opening weekend of F1 The Movie and ask what it means for the championship.
And we'll hear from the newest team principal on the grid, Graeme Lowdon, about why Cadillac will be operating out of both the US and the UK when it enters F1 next season. You can watch the full YouTube video on the Autosport YouTube Channel.
Joining James Allen in the studio to talk through all of these topics are Motorsport.com's Editor-in-Chief Ben Hunt and F1 writer Emily Selleck.

Charles Leclerc loses cool in foul-mouthed radio rant at British Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc swore repeatedly in a fiery outburst over team radio as his frustration boiled over after qualifying at the British Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver had earlier in the day been the quickest on track in the final practice session and was a contender for pole position at Silverstone But the Monegasque could only record the sixth-quickest time in Q3, triggering a foul-mouthed rant over radio. 'F*** that,' he said. 'I am so f****** s***. So f****** s*** I am. I am so f****** s***. That's all I am.' Leclerc's teammate Lewis Hamilton qualified fifth-fastest, while Max Verstappen put his Red Bull on pole ahead of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. In the media pen afterwards, Leclerc acknowledged that his qualifying displays have been under-par so far this season. 'I'm not doing the job,' Leclerc said. 'I think since the beginning of the season, I've been performing very well in the races. 'Looking back at races, there are actually not many races where I will go back to change something that I've done inside the car. 'Unfortunately, when I look back at qualifying — which used to be my strength — there are many qualifying(s) where I would like to go back and to change something, because every time I get to Q3, for some reason, it's not clicking at the moment. 'We've had good qualifying(s), but we didn't have great qualifying(s). And again, this used to be my strength, so I'm not happy with the level that I'm showing in qualifying. 'We've got issues for sure, particularly today from Q2 onwards. We were a bit fighting with something inside the car, but it's not an excuse. I need to be better.' The British Grand Prix starts at 3pm (BST) on Sunday.

Hamilton says 'understeer' cost him front row spot on British GP grid

Lewis Hamilton has yet to claim pole position for a Grand Prix since joining Ferrari (Andrej ISAKOVIC) Home hero Lewis Hamilton said an error on his final flying lap in qualifying on Saturday cost him a probable front row starting position on the grid for the British Grand Prix. The 40-year-old seven-time world champion, who has won his home race a record nine times and taken seven pole positions, admitted one slight mistake had proved costly. Advertisement "I just had understeer on turn 16 and I lost the time that I had –- it probably cost me a place on the front row," he said. Hamilton, seeking his maiden podium position for Ferrari, ended up two-tenths off pole-sitter four-time world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull, but was frustrated that his and Ferrari's excellent progress had not been rewarded. "I'm pleased overall," he said. "I'm pleased with our progress and our direction. I feel my engineer and I have been gelling better in terms of how we set the car up and I am happier in the car. "The lap was really nice until that last corner. It was just a bit of understeer. I don't know if it was the kerb that put me a little wide, but then I just lost it." Advertisement Team-mate Charles Leclerc was also disappointed and blamed himself for failing to put together his best possible lap. "I made too many mistakes and it is a pity," he said, having qualified sixth behind Hamilton. str/nf

‘Jurassic World Rebirth' roars its way to the top of box office

It had a dino-mite day in theaters. 'Jurassic World Rebirth' brought the box office back to life on Friday, its opener. The seventh installment in the 'Jurassic Park' franchise, 'Rebirth' roared its way to No. 1, clawing in $26.3 million, according to The Numbers. Advertisement The Post called the film 'another embarrassing dino retread' and bashed Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey's characters as 'some of the blandest' in the series. This is the first foray into the prehistoric franchise for Johansson, who has been a fan since she laid eyes on its first installment, 1993's 'Jurassic Park.' 3 'Jurassic World Rebirth' is Scarlett Johansson's first 'Jurassic Park' film. ©Universal/Courtesy Everett Collection Advertisement 'I was really crazy about the film, and I slept in a 'Jurassic Park' pup tent in my bedroom I shared with my sister for a year,' she told Vanity Fair. 'Anytime the trades would report a new 'Jurassic' movie, I would forward to my agents like, 'Hey, I'm available.'' The action sci-fi flick — the fourth in the 'Jurassic World' series — was released on Wednesday, and projections for its five-day earnings through the weekend are topping $141 million. 'F1: The Movie' downshifted to second place, after spending its opener last Friday in first. It is now the biggest opening weekend for the Oscar-winning actor in his 37-year acting career. In an interview with the F1 Beyond The Grid podcast, Pitt said he would like to see a sequel to the movie — which was filmed during the 2023 and 2024 F1 seasons, with scenes shot at real Grand Prix events. Advertisement 'Absolutely. It's such an audacious idea and I cant think of any other film that that's ever happened. To allow us to embed ourselves into the racing season. I had the time of my life,' Pitt gushed on the podcast. 3 Seventeen-year-old Mason Thames plays the lead in 'How to Train Your Dragon.' ©DreamWorks/Courtesy Everett Collection 'How to Train Your Dragon' moved down a notch to third, with sales of $2.88 million on its fourth Friday in theaters. Disney and Pixar's 'Elio' remained in fourth with a $1.5 million take. The zombie thriller '28 Years Later' continued in fifth place, with sales of $1.15 million.
