‘Once in a generation' horror movie could finally get another sequel
Sinister first hit the big screen in 2012, starring Ethan Hawke as desperate true crime writer Ellison Oswald, who finds a snuff film showing the deaths of a family and attempts to solve the mystery.
However, things take a supernatural turn when the author moves his own family into the house and he's soon fighting to save his loved ones from danger.
Scott Derrickson's flick was praised by many at the time but the 2015 follow-up, titled Sinister 2, didn't get the same rave reviews.
In a new interview with Joe to promote his upcoming horror, Black Phone 2, the filmmaker touched on whether he'd spoken to producer Jason Blum about resurrecting the franchise.
'Yeah, we've actually been speaking about it,' he said. 'I think that we really dropped the ball on Sinister 2. I take responsibility for that.
'I think that there were some problems with that screenplay that we wrote. It didn't have the mystery or the intensity of the first movie.
'But we're hoping to make a Sinister 3 eventually and revive that franchise. I would love to see that happen.'
Considering the first movie was found to be the scariest film according to science, another instalment could be just what we need.
Sinister, also starring Juliet Rylance, Clare Foley and Fred Thompson, was a box office success in the early 2010s, grossing more than $87million worldwide.
It currently commands a 64% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics, compared to a slightly lower 62% from fans.
Despite the score, many users raved about the supernatural scare-fest on the platform, branding it a 'cheek-clenching' watch.

Tadhg D agreed: 'A horror movie that served its proper purpose: I was scared after it with my heart beating. The atmosphere was on point along with the characters being interesting.

Legendary rocker Mick Jagger is reportedly considering having another baby with his girlfriend. The 82–year–old is currently engaged to former ballerina Melanie Hamrick, 38, and the pair have an eight-year-old son, Deveraux, known as Devi. According to sources close to the couple, however, the pair may be thinking of adding another little one to their small family. The Daily Mail reports that the pair have spoken about having another baby together 'if fate allows'. The knockout thriller has just landed on ITVX, 13 years on from its 2012 release, for action enthusiasts to enjoy. As well as being a fan-favourite, the film was a hit among critics, and garnered glowing praise for its stellar acting, dialogue and action scenes.
