Urban Meyer Says There's 1 Kind Of Job Nick Saban Might Take
Will Nick Saban return to coaching? That seems to be the No. 1 topic in the college football world this week.
While at SEC Media Days this past Monday, former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy said he heard from a "notable source" that Saban could return to the sideline. The seven-time national champion is currently an analyst on ESPN's "College GameDay." Although he seems happy with that role, we apparently have to stay alert for a comeback attempt.
"A very much in the know person that I have a lot of respect for and have spent a lot of time around, and just really, really admire -- they seem to think Nick Saban is not done coaching," McElroy said. "He's pretty adamant that he thinks Nick Saban will be coaching again. If it wasn't someone notable, I would never say a word. He is of firm belief that Nick Saban will coach in college football again."
During an appearance on "The Herd" this Thursday, former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer suggested that Saban is itching to coach again.
"I have not talked to him about this. I could guess - because I know him fairly well - that it's not a little scratch, it's probably a pretty big scratch," Meyer told FS1 host Colin Cowherd.
Meyer then suggested Saban would go to the NFL if he decides to coach again.
"I would say there's very little to no chance he would get involved in college. But I think he would take phone calls from the NFL."
Saban coached the Miami Dolphins from 2005-2006, owning a 15-17 record. He then went to Alabama and cemented his status as one of the all-time greats in the history of sports.

WVU football recruit SirPaul Cheeks already well known
MORGANTOWN — There are a couple of names in college football that are memorable not for their performance, but just for their name alone. Some make the fan-made all-name teams, and West Virginia could have one of their own coming to Morgantown soon. A week ago, West Virginia received a commitment from 2026 running back SirPaul Cheeks, from Chesterfield, Va. Some say Cheek's name sounds like a name from the Key and Peele East/West College Bowl skit, but it's not. Cheeks is the newest addition to the 2026 class. Cheeks isn't the only name tagged to the new back. The running back also goes by the nickname 'Jesus in Cleats,' which is high praise for the high schooler. According to his X account, Cheeks runs a 4.37 40-yard dash, ranking 11th in this year's NFL Combine and second among running backs, so he is fast. Cheeks' name and nickname have already caught national attention. A couple of days after his commitment, ESPN and former WVU player Pat McAfee introduced Cheeks to College GameDay co-host Kirk Herbstreit, during McAfee's show. 'SirPaul Cheeks,' McAfee said. 'You are going to learn today, Kirk. West Virginia got a commitment from SirPaul Cheeks. Jesus in cleats.' 'Where is he from?' Herbstreit asked. 'He's from f——- football god,' McAfee replied. Experts don't think the same of Cheeks, and he doesn't have the highest rating. Cheeks is a composite three-star prospect and ranked as the 54th-best running back in the 2026 class. Cheeks is the 24th-ranked player in Virginia. Cheeks has promising stats from last year to back up his nickname, though. His junior year, Cheeks had 1,495 all-purpose yards, 18 touchdowns, three pick-6s, 900 rushing yards on 38 carries and 265 receiving yards. Kentucky, Buffalo, Appalachian State and Ball State liked what they saw and offered him, too. He can do it all on both sides of the ball but will play running back in college. Rich Rodriguez said earlier this spring that two-way players might be more present in college football, with the shrunken rosters, so it's not out of the question that he plays more than just running back. 'You still may need to have a few guys that maybe can go both ways,' Rodriguez said. 'I think you'll see a little more of that. I know Travis Hunter did it at Colorado.' Cheeks could be the future of Rodriguez's offense. Rodriguez's offense is run-heavy and tempo, so a running back that can do it all should have success. However, Cheeks is on the smaller side at 5-foot-9, but he has some time to put on some size since he's just a high schooler. Rodriguez's starting running back this year, Jahiem White, is only 5-foot-7 and 192 pounds, so Cheeks shouldn't have an issue. Cheeks will have to compete for the starting role one day. In just his class alone, there are two other running backs, fellow 3-star prospects Christopher Talley, who's also 5-foot-9, and Jett Walker. Cheeks is ranked higher than those two, and rated as the fourth-best player in WVU's 2026 class, which consists of 25 pledges. It'll be interesting to see how Cheeks pans out and if he stays committed to WVU. There will be WVU fans pulling for him just because of his name alone. 'All I can tell you is if Rich Rod recruited him, he's a great player,' Herbstreit said. 'There's a new era in Morgantown, and I am officially on the bandwagon.'

It's Scottie Scheffler versus Rory McIlroy at the 77th U.S. Junior Amateur. Well, sort of. The top two ranked players in junior golf, No. 1 Miles Russell and No. 2 Luke Colton, will face off in one of four quarterfinal matches on Friday morning at Trinity Forest in Dallas. Russell, a 16-year-old from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, survived a scare in Wednesday's first round of match play, rallying from 2 down through three holes to win in extra holes. He made easier work of his opponents on Thursday, beating Lucas Latimer, 3 and 2, before taking down Miguel Garcia, 4 and 2. Colton, 17 years old and from nearby Frisco, rolled Texas A&M signee Shiv Parmar, 6 and 5, in the Round of 32 and then eliminated 15-year-old Chase Bauer, 3 and 1, to earn himself a second date with Russell in about a month. Colton and Russell last played a match against each other in the Round of 16 at the North and South Amateur in June. Colton won that match in 21 holes. Need further proof that this encore will be closely contested, look at these numbers: • In 48 common rounds since the start of 2024, Colton and Russell are 21-21-6 against each other • During that same span, they both boast 70.1 scoring averages It's possible that Friday's match also helps decide the 10-man U.S. Walker Cup team that will compete at Cypress Point this September. Russell, at No. 18 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, had the greater shot starting this week, but the 26th-ranked Colton's stock would shoot up should he beat Russell and ultimately win this championship. That match begins at 8:30 a.m. ET. Miami have been a hot topic this summer and it's not just the weather. The Miami Dolphins have been in news plenty since the end of the 2024 regular season. Tyreek Hill was hinting about departing from the team, pundits and media questioning Tua Tagovailoa and the future for him and the Jalen Ramsey saga started to die down until he was traded to the Steelers. A lot of noise also can mean a bunch of changes and the Dolphins are entering next season with plenty of new people. ESPN ranked the best starting lineup of each NFL team and these changes have pushed Miami towards the bottom half of the league. The Dolphins are ranked 24th in the league based off their starting lineup. ESPN ranks Miami Dolphins starting lineup Although they kept core pieces such as Tagovailoa, Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, their new additions and multiple rookies in their starting lineup could have pushed them down to the mid 20s. ESPN also listed the biggest strength, biggest weakness, X-factor for 2025 and nonstarter to know for each NFL team. The Dolphins' biggest strength was undeniably their one-two punch of Hill and Waddle. The two both had a down year for their standards as neither eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards on the season. The speed and separation the duo possess makes them a tough opponent when their quarterback is healthy. The addition of Nick Westbrook-Ikhine will present another weapon to opponents that will cause problems in the optimal situation. Miami lost majority of their secondary in the offseason and their effort to replace what was lost has not been as effective. Acquiring Fitzpatrick through the Ramsey trade was crucial but signing Artie Burns, Ashtyn Davis and Ifeatu Melifonwu, who combined for 468 snaps last season does not replace their missing secondary. They will lean on their free agent signing and draft selections to help create a well-balanced defense. The running game is Miami's X-factor as they need to get it back on track. They had the most efficient running game in the league by EPA per play in 2023, but it dropped to second-worst last year. De'Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, Alexander Mattison and Ollie Gordon II have to bring their A-game this coming season and their offensive line must be ready for that. Two non-starters to know are linebackers Willie Gay and K.J. Britt. The depth at inside linebacker is great and Gay's Super Bowl experience can another level to the position group. Tyrel Dodson and Jordyn Brooks are projected to start but Gay and Britt can cause competition with their skills and experience at the position.
