UK Ford cars WILL be affected by huge recall affecting 200,000 EVs – after fears fault will leave passengers ‘trapped'

A MAJOR recall issued by Ford over concerns for passenger safety will also affect its UK models.
The recall was issued earlier this week in the US over a major safety defect that could leave passengers trapped in their cars.

The Express has reported that "some" Mustang Mach-E electric cars in the UK will be affected by the same issues.
It is unclear how many UK cars will be affected, as Ford will be in touch with relevant customers shortly.
The issue is believed to be a software problem that causes the electronic door latch to remain closed.
This occurs when the car's battery is low, leaving passengers at risk of being trapped in their car.
Drivers with Ford Mustang Mach-E 2021-2025 models should look out for the following warning displays which could indicate a fault.
The SYNC infotainment screen may display a "system off to save power" warning, or go blank when the power is in the "off" position
The inside release handle of the front door needs to be pulled further than normal to unlatch the door when exiting the vehicle.
It could pose a health risk to customers in an emergency situation, although no accidents or injuries have been reported so far.
However, several drivers have reported being locked out of their vehicles.
The recall is likely to be easily resolved through a free update for customers.
In the meantime, sales of the Mustang Mach-E have been halted at Ford dealerships until the software is updated.
Ford urgently recalls 273,000 cars over dangerous brake issue that could 'cause total failure' – two models are affected
Ford wrote to the National Highways Traffic Safety Administration in the US to warn of the imminent recall on June 23.
It affects up to 197,432 of the Mustang Mach-E cars in the US.
An NHTSA report stated: "Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2025 Mustang Mach E vehicles.
"In the event of low battery charge, the electronic door latches may remain locked once the driver or front passenger exits and shuts the door, possible trapping someone who is unable to use the inside door release handles, such as a child in the backseat."
They added: "Dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Control Module C (SOBDMC) software."
The Mustang Mach-E is Ford's flagship EV model and was launched in 2021.
Its SUV version has a range of between 292 and 372 miles, depending on the trim.
The top-end models can also reach a top speed of 120mph, and go from zero to 62mph in 6.7 seconds.
It comes after another major carmaker recalled thousands of cars that may have a 'deadly' defect.
Owners of popular Citroën models - built between 2009 and 2019 - have been warned to stop driving their cars immediately.
Stellantis has told all owners of 2009-2019 Citroën Mk1 DS 3s and Mk2 Citroën C3s in the UK to stop driving their cars immediately.
This includes both the Citroën DS 3 and the later versions of the supermini - sold under the separate DS brand.
It followed the death of a driver after her Takata airbag in her 2014 Citroën C3 exploded.
French carmaker Citroën had already recalled the affected cars - replacing airbags in just under 70 per cent of the 690,000 vehicles.

‘It's so obvious' – Fans convinced Max Verstappen's Red Bull future is doomed after ominous Christian Horner interview

FANS are convinced Max Verstappen will jump ship from Red Bull to Mercedes after watching Christian Horner's gloomy interview. Merecedes boss Toto Wolff sensationally confirmed on Friday that his team have held behind closed doors talks with the four-time world champion. 3 And after Verstappen finished P7 in qualifying in Red Bull's home race in Austria, Horner was asked about Wolff's incredible admission. Horner, who promoted Verstappen to F1 in May 2016, tried to play-down the ongoing speculation linking the Dutchman with Mercedes. The British team principal told Sky Sports: "It's a lot of noise. I think Max gets quite annoyed by it and we're very clear with the contract that we have with Max until 2028. "Anything is entirely speculative that is being said, but yeah we tend not to pay too much attention to it." Wolff said ahead of qualifying, where George Russell secured fifth place, that there was 'very little probability' of Verstappen joining Mercedes – at least not for 2026. Russell, meanwhile, is still waiting for a contract extension, with the winner of the Canadian Grand Prix a fortnight ago having emerged as a reported target for Aston Martin. Horner cheekily added: "I can imagine that George is frustrated he hasn't been given a contract yet. But that's between him and his team. "But the situation with Max we know clearly where we're at and obviously as does Max, so everything is subject to noise and within any contract it remains confidential between the parties." One wrote on X: "After that interview with Horner, it's so obvious that Max is going to join Mercedes." Red Bull's Christian Horner gives low down on car before F1 season kicks off with Australian Grand Prix A second said: "Somehow this interview with Horner is not convincing me everything is well and jolly behind the RB curtain." Another added: "Horner sounds like a beaten man." Verstappen is contracted with the Milton Keynes-based outfit until 2028 but is understood to have clauses in his contract that could result in an earlier departure. Wolff has long targeted a move for Verstappen, before picking rookie Kimi Antonelli as Lewis Hamilton's replacement during the off-season. Russell, who is out of contract at the end of the season, was the first to say his team have been talking to Verstappen about signing a deal for 2026. The Brit, 27, also suggested on Thursday that his contract talks had been delayed by the ongoing talks with Dutchman. Pushed on whether he would set a deadline for Verstappen to decide on joining Mercedes, Wolff confirmed "conversations behind closed doors" were ongoing. Wolff said: "You make it sound like we have been asking, 'when do you want to join and what are the terms?' That's not how it is and how it works. "I want to just have the conversations behind closed doors, not town halls. "We have two drivers that have been in our programme a long time, drivers that I'm perfectly happy to have, drivers that will do great in the future of the team. So, it's a bit different a situation." Meanwhile, Horner could consider replacing Yuki Tsunoda with Racing Bulls youngster Isack Hadjar, as the Japanese star suffered Red Bull's worst-ever qualifying position at their home turf, after finishing 18th. Lando Norris took a dominant pole position in Austria, as late yellow flag drama left championship leader Oscar Piastri third, with Charles Leclerc making up the front row. 3 3

Nice to see the old me back – McLaren's Lando Norris pleased with pole position

Lando Norris said it was 'good to have the old me back' after he delivered the perfect response to his Montreal horror show by securing an emphatic pole position for Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix. Norris' world championship bid was dealt a major setback when he ran into the back of his McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri a fortnight ago. But the British driver has been in excellent form at the Red Bull Ring, topping all of the practice sessions he competed in prior to qualifying, before landing the 12th pole of his career. Norris' margin over second-placed Charles Leclerc was a huge 0.521 seconds – the biggest of the year so far at the shortest circuit on the calendar. Piastri, who leads Norris by 22 points in the standings, could manage only third, 0.583 secs behind – his final Q3 lap thwarted following a spin by Pierre Gasly ahead of him – with Lewis Hamilton fourth. After landing his first win of the season in Canada, George Russell qualified fifth on a so-so day for Mercedes. Max Verstappen could manage only seventh after he complained that his Red Bull was 'undriveable'. Norris admitted he made a fool of himself when he collided with Piastri, and he left Canada with a warning of 'tough conversations' to follow by McLaren team principal Andrea Stella. However, the 25-year-old Bristolian has shown signs of his former self in the Styrian mountains, and he will start the 11th round of this 24-race season as the favourite to claim a win which must serve as a springboard to rebuilding his stuttering title charge. Norris' first lap in Q3 placed him two tenths faster than anyone else, before he extended his lead to more than half-a-second. 'Nice to see the old me back every now and then, huh?' said Norris over the radio after taking just the third pole of a season derailed by a number of messy performances over one lap. Later, he added: 'It was easily my best lap of the year. I did what I planned to do, and when I do that and it goes right, it normally goes very, very well. 'Some of my tough moments have been in qualifying, so to have a performance like that is exciting. I am very happy, but I want to prove it to myself over and over again and I hope this is just the beginning. 'It is about consistency. Everyone can be a hero for a weekend. It is a long journey, a long season, and the job I needed to do today, I did it. It doesn't make up for the last weekends but I did it today and that is what mattered.' Verstappen is 43 points off the championship pace and he faces the prospect of losing further ground following a disappointing qualifying session at a venue he has ruled. Verstappen has won five times in Spielberg, and taken the last four pole positions, but he has looked out of sorts in his unruly Red Bull machine. 'The car is completely undriveable,' he said over the radio after finishing nearly a second behind Norris. 'It is even worse than before. I don't even know what to say.' Verstappen's Red Bull team-mate Yuki Tsunoda qualified only 18th on a poor afternoon for the grid's once-all-conquering team at their home event.

Car maker Lotus says it has no plans to close English factory

LONDON, June 28 (Reuters) - British-based sportscar company Lotus said it has no plans to close a factory in eastern England, following a report in the Financial Times which said manufacturing there could end with the loss of 1,300 jobs. "Lotus Cars is continuing normal operations, and there are no plans to close the factory," Lotus said in an emailed statement on Saturday. "We are actively exploring strategic options to enhance efficiency and ensure global competitiveness in the evolving market." Lotus is owned by China's Geely ( and Malaysia's Etika Automotive and the brand produces cars in Britain and China. Any closure of the factory in Hethel, Norfolk, would have been a blow for Britain's auto industry which is suffering as a result of tariffs imposed by the United States. Britain's vehicle production dropped 32.8% from a year ago industry data showed on Friday. The Financial Times said the government had intervened to signal it would offer Lotus support after news emerged that the factory could shut, but the Department for Business and Trade did not confirm that. "The government does not comment on speculation or the commercial affairs of private companies," a spokesperson for the department said on Saturday. While Britain has negotiated a trade deal with the U.S. which will reduce the tariffs for a quota of exported vehicles, it does not come into force until the end of June. Meanwhile, car makers have reported lower output and exports to both the U.S. and the European Union, according to economic data.
