The moment Thelo Aasgaard won Erling Haaland's respect as Rangers star promises to bring the 'flair' to Ibrox
Thelo Asgaard took just 38 minutes on his Norway debut to show he belonged on the pitch with the likes of Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard.
And now he's determined to bring what he's learned from those international superstars to Rangers and deliver a trophy rush for Russell Martin.
The new £3.5m man checked in from Luton Town and he's the latest part of a transfer drive that's seen Martin revamp the Ibrox lineup.
Aasgaard joins fellow new boys Emmanuel Fernandez, Joe Rothwell, Max Aarons and Lyall Cameron at the Rangers Training Centre and brings some international pedigree to Ibrox.
He's Liverpool born with a Scouse accent to rival Steven Gerrard's, but with a surname picked straight from Norse mythology, it's no surprise he chose Norway, for who he qualifies on his father Jonathan's side.
And back in March, he was given the nod by Stale Solbakken to start a World Cup qualifier against Moldova.
He joined Arsenal star Odegaard in midfield with Man City megastar Haaland leading the line. But it was Aasgaard who stole the show in the 5-0 rout; he assisted Julian Ryerson for the opener within five minutes, and got the moment he'd been waiting for roughly half an hour later when he slammed in his first goal for his country.
Haaland certainly approved; he was straight over to shake his hand as Aasgaard took the acclaim from his new teammates.
And on sharing a dressing room with Haaland and Odegaard, he told Rangers TV: "They really took me in well. I feel like part of the group. We've got a top, top group and we've had a strong start to the World Cup qualifiers.
"To play in the World Cup next year is a big goal for me and hopefully I can show the manager I'm ready with some of my performances here.
"I'll add a bit of flare. I'm full of confidence, not afraid to shoot from distance. I like to link up with my teammates and form connections at the top of the pitch.
"I like to be part of the buildup phase as well as getting in the box and scoring goals."
Aasgaard is an admirer of new Ibrox boss Martin's and, having been given the runaround by his Swansea team while playing for Wigan, he's looking forward to being on the other side of the stick.
He's only been in the building one day but the new No.11 already understands exactly what the Englishman wants from him.
And the 23-year-old is determined to prove he's worth the £3.5m price tag.
"I think just to have the trust from him (Martin) is really important," he went on. 'Even being here for only one day, I can already see that he wants me to express myself within his system. I'm just looking forward to being part of this successful year.
"I remember when we played his Swansea teams, we didn't really tough the ball. I always thought it would be fun to play in that sort of team!
"I feel at home already. The facilities are fantastic. It's a really good changing room, I can't wait.
"It just feels like the right thing for my career to be playing in front of some amazing fans at an amazing stadium. This is what I've been dreaming of."

FIFA slash Chelsea tickets to less than cost of a beer in bid to swell crowd
The revamped Club World Cup has come in for plenty of criticism and tickets for the semi-final match between Chelsea and Fluminense have been slashed to less than £10 Ticket prices for Chelsea's Club World Cup semi-final clash against Fluminense on Tuesday have been slashed, with fans now able to attend the game for less than it would cost to buy a beer at the stadium. A standard admission ticket was reduced to just $13.40 (£9.81) on Saturday, having been priced at $473.90 (£347) less than three days earlier. And that means the tickets are cheaper than the cost of a beer at the MetLife Stadium where the game is being held, which is priced at $14 (£10.25). According to the Athletic, the move comes as FIFA look to bolster the tournament's attendances with Gianni Infantino hoping to 'demonstrate proof of concept' to clubs, broadcasters and sponsors. FIFA have come in for criticism for using dynamic pricing for the tournament, while former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has claimed the expanded Club World Cup is the "worst idea ever implemented in football" due to the extra demands on players Speaking to German outlet Welt, Klopp said: "The Club World Cup is the worst idea ever implemented in football in this regard. People who have never had anything to do with day-to-day business or who no longer have anything to do with it come up with something. "I understand those who say 'But the money you get for participating is insane'. But it's not for every club. Last year it was the Copa and the European Championship, this year the Club World Cup, and next year the World Cup. "That means no real recovery for the players involved, neither physically nor mentally. Of course, they all earn a lot of money. But let's leave that aside for a moment. An NBA player who also earns really good money has four months off every year. "Virgil van Dijk hasn't even had that in his entire career. Tournaments like the Club World Cup cannot be held on the backs of the players. I don't wish that on anyone, but I have a big fear. "That players will suffer injuries they've never had before next season. If not in the next season, then it will happen at the World Cup or afterward. We constantly expect the lads to go into every game as if it were their last. "We tell them that 70 or 75 times a year. But it can't go on like this. We have to make sure they have breaks, because if they don't get them, they won't be able to deliver top performances in the long run – and if they can't do that anymore, the entire product loses value for the sellers. "I once had a pre-season of two and a half weeks in which all my players were at my disposal. Two and a half weeks – and then we played practically every three days for a year afterwards. That's brutal."

Manchester United and England icon Wayne Rooney is reportedly set to join new Match of the Day hosts Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates as a pundit from next season Wayne Rooney has reportedly signed an £800,000 deal to be a pundit on Match of the Day from next season. The England icon will join the BBC's flagship show following the departure of Gary Lineker as its host. Lineker had fronted the programme for 25 years before departing at the end of last season. He had been due to continue hosting FA Cup fixtures and next summer's World Cup, but left the BBC altogether after controversy surrounding a social media post containing an anti-Semetic trope. He has been replaced by Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates who will rotate as host of Match of the Day and Match of the Day 2, the Sunday highlights show. And the trio will be joined by Rooney who will appear as a pundit, report The Sun. Rooney has dipped his toe into more punditry on the BBC and Sky Sports since he was sacked as Plymouth manager on New Year's Eve. The deal is said to include the opportunity of a two-year extension, while Rooney is expected to feature as a pundit on the World Cup alongside the likes of Alan Shearer, Jurgen Klinsmann, Rio Ferdinand and Joe Hart. Rooney, 39, is Manchester United's record goal scorer and held the England record at the time of his retirement. Harry Kane has since surpassed his tally for the Three Lions. He burst on to the scene at boyhood club Everton before moving to Old Trafford where he scored 253 times in 559 appearances, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League along the way. Rooney returned to Everton in 2017 before heading Stateside to DC United. He became player-manager at Derby in 2020, where he hung up his boots. He then returned to Washington to manage DC United, before unsuccessful spells at Birmingham and Plymouth. This latest career move could signal an end to his managerial aspirations. Lineker hosted his final Match of the Day in May, and signed off with an emotional statement. "Alan [Shearer] and Micah [Richards], I suspect our paths will cross again very shortly," he said. "Let me take this opportunity to thank all of the other pundits that I've had the pleasure of working with over the last 25 years, you've made my job so much easier. "Also, a huge thank you to those you don't see at home: the work that goes into making this iconic show is a huge team effort.
