Umno divisional meets key to raising grassroots issues
Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki expressed hope that all representatives involved can make the most of the meeting space, which will run until July 27, so that all issues can be raised at the Umno General Assembly, from Aug 20 to 23.
'I recommend party members take this opportunity to engage in discussions at their respective divisional levels, and ensure that grassroots voices are brought to the attention of the Umno leadership,' he told reporters after attending the MARA-Petronas Automotive Entrepreneur Development Programme (PUMP), here, today.
Asyraf Wajdi also described the party's nationwide branch-level meetings, held from April 7 to May 25 this year, as very encouraging, noting a significantly higher turnout compared with the previous year.
He said that the positive response reflected a renewed sense of enthusiasm among grassroots members, who appeared increasingly committed to fulfilling their respective responsibilities.

Johari Ghani said such remarks, especially those made in anger or frustration, should not be viewed as the party's stance, Berita Harian reported. 'Did he say it, or did his party say it? He can't decide for the party. If it's a decision made by the party, that's a different matter,' Johari was quoted as saying. 'Sometimes people speak out of anger. We should let things calm down first. Don't complicate matters.' MIC, which holds only one parliamentary seat, in Tapah, again voiced its dissatisfaction recently over being sidelined within the unity government, saying it felt like an 'unwanted guest'. Saravanan reportedly claimed the party had been promised a Cabinet post after the 2022 general election, only to be 'cheated' when the promise was not fulfilled. When asked whether MIC was considering joining Perikatan Nasional, he said: 'Right now, I dare not say yes or no.' Last Sunday, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he believed that MIC was guaranteed a better future by remaining with the coalition despite its discontent over not being given any role in the unity government. Earlier today however, MIC president SA Vigneswaran said they were prepared to engage in discussions with any political party to ensure its survival and better serve the Indian community.

Nearly 30 DAP MPs visit Umno HQ, hosted by Zahid

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Close to 30 DAP MPs visited the Umno headquarters at Menara Dato Onn earlier this week, in what one leader described as a historic first for both parties. Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin said the MPs were there for a briefing on technical and vocational education and training (TVET), hosted by deputy prime minister and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Zahid also chairs the national TVET council. 'It marked the first time that such a large group of DAP MPs visited Umno's headquarters, a sign of maturity and cooperation within the unity government,' Chan said in a Facebook post. 'The Madani government is not perfect. But we are serious in discharging our responsibilities. 'We are working to overcome ideological and party differences for the sake of national progress. Nation-building requires unity, not uniformity, and that's the spirit we're committed to.' The DAP leaders who attended the briefing included the party's secretary-general Loke Siew Fook, adviser Lim Guan Eng, and vice-chairman Chong Chieng Jen. Also present were Umno vice-president Johari Ghani and secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. Umno played a key role in the formation of the unity government, joining hands with its former archenemy, DAP, in the aftermath of the 2022 general election. In June 2023, Loke joined Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at Menara Dato Onn to attend that year's Umno general assembly, marking the first time that a DAP leader had attended the annual event. Zahid, Asyraf and Barisan Nasional secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir attended DAP's national convention several months later.

BN eyes representation in all 25 Sabah MP seats

The Umno deputy president said the move is to ensure BN is represented in all 25 parliamentary constituencies in Sabah, which has a total of 73 state seats. However, Mohamad, who is also Foreign Minister and Rembau MP, said the proposal has not been finalised and will be discussed further with the BN component parties, namely Umno, MCA, MIC and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS). 'We do not want to see a recurrence of the situation in the last election, when some parliamentary constituencies lacked BN representation. 'This will lead to frustration and disillusionment among supporters, possibly causing them to leave the party,' he told reporters after launching the Kimanis Umno Division delegates meeting at Dewan Terbuka Membakut, here, Saturday. The current five-year term of the 16th State Assembly will expire automatically on Nov 11, paving the way for the 17th State Election. Meanwhile, Mohamad urged the people, particularly Umno members, not to be influenced by malicious allegations that the party had formed a coalition with DAP. 'BN, particularly Umno, has never merged with any party after the 15th General Election (GE15). Instead, BN only formed the current government with Pakatan Harapan (PH) based on an agreement with the coalition.
