BN eyes representation in all 25 Sabah MP seats

By: Bernama Text Size: Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan MEMBAKUT: Barisan Nasional (BN) intends to contest at least one state seat in each parliamentary constituency in Sabah during the 17th state election, said its Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. The Umno deputy president said the move is to ensure BN is represented in all 25 parliamentary constituencies in Sabah, which has a total of 73 state seats. However, Mohamad, who is also Foreign Minister and Rembau MP, said the proposal has not been finalised and will be discussed further with the BN component parties, namely Umno, MCA, MIC and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS). 'We do not want to see a recurrence of the situation in the last election, when some parliamentary constituencies lacked BN representation. 'This will lead to frustration and disillusionment among supporters, possibly causing them to leave the party,' he told reporters after launching the Kimanis Umno Division delegates meeting at Dewan Terbuka Membakut, here, Saturday. The current five-year term of the 16th State Assembly will expire automatically on Nov 11, paving the way for the 17th State Election. Meanwhile, Mohamad urged the people, particularly Umno members, not to be influenced by malicious allegations that the party had formed a coalition with DAP. 'BN, particularly Umno, has never merged with any party after the 15th General Election (GE15). Instead, BN only formed the current government with Pakatan Harapan (PH) based on an agreement with the coalition. Anwar said the government had invested in international legal efforts to protect Sabah's maritime boundaries and would continue to do so. He also defended his administration's performance in Sabah, highlighting increased federal allocations and special grants compared to previous governments. He commended the State's achievements in agriculture, such as avocado cultivation, crediting strong ties between the federal and state governments under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. Sabah prioritises agriculture as key driver of economic growth

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said agriculture contributed RM12.2 billion or 14.5 per cent to Sabah's GDP, making it the third largest sector in the state economy. He said this during the closing ceremony of the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day (HPPNK) 2025 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here on Sunday, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. To boost food resilience, Hajiji said Sabah had revived the Sabah Rice and Padi Board last year with the aim of raising rice self-sufficiency to 30 per cent by 2026 and 60 per cent by 2030. He highlighted the role of technology such as the Internet of Things and smart farming in modernising agriculture and attracting younger generations to the sector. So far, Sabah's 15 Permanent Food Production Parks (TKPM) have produced over 1,494 metric tonnes of food, generating more than RM4.32 million in returns. Allowance cuts unfair to teachers

Warisan Youth Chief Terence Au said the issue goes beyond technical adjustments and touches on the fairness, dignity and welfare of educators, especially those serving in rural areas. 'This is not just a technical issue. It is about justice, dignity, and the wellbeing of our teachers, who are the backbone of Sabah's development,' he said in a statement. Au said this was precisely why Warisan, during its administration, had established the Sabah Ministry of Education and Innovation under then chief minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.
