Shreyas' Answer To A Bumrah Yorker Called 'Shot Of IPL', ABD Says 'If I Faced..'
Shreyas Iyer smashed an unbeaten 87 as AB de Villiers praised the Punjab Kings captain's shot off a Jasprit Bumrah yorker.
Shreyas Iyer put on a flawless masterclass in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, smashing an unbeaten 87 to lead Punjab Kings to a five-wicket victory.
Such was Shreyas's brilliance that even Jasprit Bumrah struggled to contain him. Former South African captain AB de Villiers was impressed with Shreyas's batting, especially his incredible shot off a Bumrah yorker.
In the 18th over, Bumrah delivered arguably the most perfect yorker, but Shreyas masterfully stayed low and opened the face of the bat, guiding the ball past a fielder at short third-man for a boundary.
Some fans even pointed out that this was not the first time that Shreyas has played such a shot to Bumrah.
De Villiers said that if he had tried something similar to such a delivery, his stumps would have been shattered.
'That's the shot of the IPL for me. A perfect yorker, hitting the middle stump, would break the toe of the bat and maybe my stumps," de Villiers said on JioStar.
Fans, too, were impressed by Shreyas's shot against Bumrah, calling it the best of IPL 2025.

Shreyas hit five boundaries and eight maximums in his unbeaten 81 off 41 balls, helping Punjab Kings (PBKS) chase down 204 with six balls to spare and five wickets in hand. In fact, the PBKS captain has been in excellent form throughout IPL 2025, scoring over 600 runs at an average exceeding fifty.
De Villiers lauded Shreyas for his consistency.
'His sixes were a joy to watch. His head was still, his positioning perfect. He's calm and level-headed, not arrogant, and I love that about him. Many more runs will come from this guy in the future. Shreyas Iyer, I salute you. What a knock," de Villiers added.
Punjab Kings will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on June 3.

'Our batting order is quite sorted as of now': MS Dhoni on Chennai Super Kings batting line-up
New Delhi [India], August 3 (ANI): ICC Hall of Famer and Chennai Super Kings player MS Dhoni stated that the batting order of the franchise is sorted as the team skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, will be returning after recovering from injury. In the IPL 2025, an injury put an end to Gaikwad's season, as he made 122 runs in five matches, averaging 24.40, with two half-centuries. Not only was Gaikwad inconsistent, but he could win only one out of five matches during the season. Speaking during the event, Dhoni said, "I think our batting order is quite sorted as of now. Gaikwad will be coming back; he got injured, so he will be coming back. So it looks as if we are quite sorted now with a small auction coming in December. Whatever further loopholes are there, we will try to plug those in, but again, as I said, we have to be at our best at the start of the tournament and have to get the planning right. We have to use the resources in the best possible manner." In the 18th edition of the cash-rich league, the Chennai-based franchise finishes at the 10th spot after winning just four games out of their 14 games in the competition. Last year, as well, the CSK franchise was unable to qualify for the playoffs as they finished fifth after winning seven out of their 14 games in the tournament. Speaking about the last two seasons' performance, Dhoni said, "Last year as well, the CSK franchise were unable to qualify for the playoffs as they finished fifth after winning seven out of their 14 games in the tournament. " MS Dhoni, Midway through the IPL 2025 season, took the captaincy mantle on his shoulders while donning the finisher's role. He pulled the curtains down on the season with 196 runs from 14 matches at 24.50, with a Player of the Match award against Lucknow Super Giants. Behind the stumps, Dhoni turned back the clock and ignited the stumps with his lightning-quick reflexes on numerous occasions, serving as a stark reminder of his mastery with gloves. For Bravo, people would pay to see those fleeting moments being executed by 'Captain Cool'. (ANI)

MS Dhoni confirms CSK captain for IPL 2026, concedes major squad issues
Legendary Chennai Super Kings cricketer MS Dhoni confirmed the return of Ruturaj Gaikwad as the captain of the franchise in Indian Premier League 2026. Speaking on a private event in Chennai on Saturday, August 2, Dhoni said that CSK opener will return to the side and take over his usual Dhoni was forced to take over CSK's captaincy from Gaikwad due to the latter's injury in the IPL 2025. Gaikwad fractured his arm early in the tournament, one that went terribly for the Chennai-based at the event, Dhoni admitted to the team's issues from IPL 2025 and said that they were going to strengthen their batting order. The comment perhaps indicates that the franchise will be moving on from Rahul Tripathi and Deepak Hooda, who were woeful last season. 'We are slightly worried about our batting order. But I think our batting order is quite sorted out now. Rutu (Gaikwad) will be coming back. He got injured. But he will be coming back. So, we are quite sorted now,' said Dhoni during a private function in Chennai.'I won't say we (CSK) slacked off (in IPL 2025). But there were certain holes that we needed to plug in. A small auction is coming in December. Some loopholes are there, and we will try to plug those in,' he last competitive outing remains CSK's match against Punjab Kings at Mullanpur on April 8. The Maharashtrian had inked a deal with English county Yorkshire but withdrew from the deal citing personal reasons. However, he has been named in the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy, beginning later this admitted that the Super Kings have been well below-par over the last two seasons, but said it was important for the team to identify those grey areas.'Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us. We have not been up to the mark. But what is important is for you to see the learnings. Yes, you had a bad season. But what went wrong? And that was the question for us last year also.'We were like, okay, there are some shortcomings. But first we needed to exactly figure out what were the shortcomings and then look at solutions,' he Dhoni Thanks Loyal FansDhoni profusely thanked the loyal CSK fans for their wholehearted support during the strife time, and promised to give a better account of themselves in the coming season.'I feel more often than not we have been able to figure out what exactly went wrong. In sports, you know you can have a very good time and at the same time there will be periods when you won't be performing well. In CSK, more often than not, we are on the higher we do talk about the processes. But at the same time we do want the result to come to our side. Last year it (result) wasn't there. But looking ahead, we will try to sort out most of the things and we will hopefully be at our best,' he 44-year-old then underlined the strong relationship he has fostered over the years with Chennai and the IPL team based in the city.'It's a very long relationship that we have had and it started much before the start of IPL... 2005 was the time when I made my Test debut which happened to be in Chennai. So, it started from that point of time. And yes, CSK helped in a big way because all of a sudden I'm spending 45-50 days here."'So, I feel the relationship over the years has grown. It helped me improve as a person. It helped me improve as a cricketer. So, CSK just happened. I think it's good for Chennai. So, today it's good for me also. Nowadays when we go and say CSK, it's not a brand only in India, but when we go to Australia, South Africa, or any of the cricket playing nations,' he noted.- EndsMust Watch
