Aberdeen won their first Scottish Cup title since 1990, defeating Celtic 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.Scorers: Schmeichel (own goal) 83'; Dorrington (own goal) 39'
Aberdeen held firm for the opening 30 minutes, sitting deep and allowing Celtic plenty of possession, before Greg Taylor drilled a rising shot just over the crossbar.
Just before half time, Celtic broke through the Dons' rearguard and Cameron Carter-Vickers' glancing header was deflected into the net by Alfie Dorrington.
Celtic kept pushing for a decisive second as Arne Engels' thumping strike crashed off the post and Taylor's stinging effort flew narrowly over the bar.
However, Aberdeen levelled late on after Schmeichel failed to deal with Shayden Morris' low cross and the Celtic goalkeeper sent the ball into his own net - sending the game into extra time.
Both sides had chances in extra time, with Dante Polvara volleying over the crossbar from 10 yards out and Celtic substitute Jeffery Schlupp rattling the crossbar from a fierce strike.
The game was eventually settled on penalties and Dimitar Mitov made the final save, keeping out Alistair Johnston's spot-kick to seal the cup for Aberdeen.

Kendrick Perkins challenges Karl-Anthony Towns to drop 15 pounds: ‘You going to be ready'

Kendrick Perkins has a suggestion for Karl-Anthony Towns. The former NBA-veteran-turned-ESPN-analyst laid into the polarizing Knicks big during his 'Perk Unplugged' show by bluntly advising Towns. 'Karl-Anthony Towns, if I was you, I'd go lose me about 15 pounds… You get 15 pounds off of you, bro, and you stay consistent… It's going to be smoke. Boy, you going to be ready. I'm telling y'all, man. I'm looking forward,' Perkins said. Advertisement Karl-Anthony Towns Jason Szenes / New York Post Perkins stressed that shedding weight isn't just cosmetic, suggesting it could significantly enhance Towns' lateral quickness and on-ball defense under new coach Mike Brown, whom the Knicks hired earlier this week. Perkins argued that conditioning, not talent, remains the only thing holding KAT back defensively. Advertisement The former Celtic has expertise in this arena, given that he was listed between 270 to 280 pounds for the bulk of his NBA tenure. NBAE via Getty Images Towns, who turns 30 in November, posted strong numbers in 2024–25, averaging 24.4 points and 12.8 rebounds per game across 72 regular-season outings, shooting 37.1 percent from three. But his defense remained a glaring weakness, especially in the playoffs, magnified in the Knicks' Eastern Conference Finals loss to the Indiana Pacers. Advertisement Towns averaged 21.4 points and 11.6 rebounds on 49 percent shooting and 35 percent from three during the playoffs. In his first year as a Knick, Towns was also named All-NBA for the third time in his career, and an All-Star for the fifth time. This past season, the Knicks finished just 14th in team defensive rating, their second-worst margin under former coach Tom Thibodeau.

Rangers boss Martin coy on Vardy links

Rangers manager Russell Martin has refused to rule out a move for veteran striker Jamie Vardy. Vardy, 38, scored nine Premier League goals for Leicester City last season but could not prevent them being relegated to the Championship and left upon the expiry of his contract earlier this summer. Advertisement He scored exactly 200 goals for Leicester in 500 appearances across a 13-year stint which included two promotions, an FA Cup winner's medal and an unforgettable Premier League triumph in the 2015-16 season. Reports in Italy on Sunday suggested Genoa have failed in a bid to lure the former England international to Serie A. Rangers have also been mentioned as a potential destination and Martin was asked directly if Vardy is a target after a 2-2 pre-season draw against Belgian champions Club Brugge. "I think I've been asked about so many players," Martin said. "Some miles away, some on the money. So basically, I'm not going to give you an answer on that. Advertisement "But I guess you'll find out who's real and who's not in the next few weeks." Rangers have also been linked with defenders Conor Coady and Nasser Djiga and Martin said he expects "the squad to look different in a week's time". "I think we definitely want to do more, for sure," the former Southampton manager said. "And also probably some players need to move on as well at some point because the squad's going to start looking very big and very heavy."

Dalgliesh focuses on positives despite defeat in Six Nations Women's Summer Series

Dalgliesh focuses on positives despite defeat in Six Nations Women's Summer Series By Phil Campbell Scotland women's U20s head coach Louise Dalgliesh revealed there are lots of positives to take despite her side falling to 31-17 loss against England in their 2025 Six Nations Women's Summer Series opener. England ran in five tries at the Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly to secure the win but Scotland battled valiantly for 80 minutes, continually refusing to let their opponents get away from them in the scoring, as Holly McIntyre, Emily Norval and Poppy Mellanby all crossed over. Advertisement And when reflecting on the result, Dalgliesh was pleased with how her players connected with one another and adapted during the game. 'I thought the clarity that we played with in terms of our intentions to move the ball and cause England problems was really impressive,' she said. 'We have worked really hard on our connection [between players] on both sides of the ball. 'I'm just really proud of the connection, how the players worked on the field to identify what was happening and then adapt to the different pictures that they were seeing.' Scotland's opening try came from McIntyre's superb score after Lucy Macrae's pinpoint cross-field kick and Dalgliesh was thrilled with the all-round team move that led to the score. Advertisement 'I'm delighted for her [Holly] and the forwards gave us a brilliant platform to allow that kick to take place. 'Holly's finish was outstanding and I'm delighted for her.' Next up for Scotland is a clash against Wales, who also lost their opening match of the competition, going down 27-10 to Ireland. And although Dalgliesh said the team would review Wales' opening game, she insisted the most important thing would be to concentrate on their own game heading into the encounter. 'I think it's important that we still focus on ourselves,' she continued. 'We will take the opportunity to have a look at [Wales'] game to see which areas we can go after. Advertisement 'But we've showed that we can score some quality tries and we can take confidence from that to take into our next match on Friday.'
