Team India captain Shubman Gill has dropped a major update on Jasprit Bumrah's availability for the second Test, starting July 2.
Interestingly, Bumrah wasn't even called upon to bowl with the second new ball when England needed just 22 runs to win with five wickets in hand.
'No, no, he (Jasprit Bumrah) is completely fit. Nothing like that. There were only 15–20 runs left, so we just wanted to give it to some other bowlers, but he is definitely fit,' Gill told BBC Sports after the end of the Leeds Test.

Regarding Bumrah's participation in the next match, Gill added: 'It's definitely a match-by-match decision. We've got a good break after this match, so once we reach Birmingham and assess the wicket, we'll decide whether he plays or not.'
At the post-match press conference, Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir reiterated that Bumrah will only play three Tests in the series.
'I think managing Bumrah's workload is more important because there's a lot of cricket ahead, and we know what he brings to the table,' Gambhir said.

'So before he came on this tour, it was already decided that he's going to play three Test matches. But let's see how his body holds up. We haven't yet decided which two other Tests he will play.'

'We absolutely have the bowling attack. We believe in them, and we trust them. When we pick a squad, we do it based on trust—not on hope.'
'These are inexperienced bowlers, but they will keep getting better. As we saw in this Test match, for the first four days—and even on day five—we were in a position to win. So we believe and trust that these boys will deliver for us.'

'Lords is great but…': Ravi Shastri makes bold pitch for WTC final in India

Former player and now commentator Ravi Shastri (Photo by) Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has endorsed England as the ideal venue for the World Test Championship finals while suggesting that the prestigious event could potentially move to larger stadiums in India and Australia in the future once it gains more global popularity. The statement comes as England continues to host WTC finals, with three successive championships being played across different stadiums in the country over the past six years. The inaugural World Test Championship final was hosted at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, featuring India and New Zealand. The subsequent final saw Australia emerge victorious against India at the Oval, claiming the WTC championship title from the Kiwis. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The most recent WTC final took place at Lord's Cricket Ground in London, where South Africa secured victory against Australia. This triumph marked the end of South Africa's 27-year drought for an ICC trophy under Temba Bavuma's leadership. "I think to start off initially, it's good if it's here (Lord's) actually. Once it gets the popularity and eyebrows it deserves, then it can start shifting. But I think the MCG can be a great place for a World Test Championship Final. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Kilcarty: Waterproof Your Home [Discover] Waterproofing Services Learn More Undo Ahmedabad can be a great place for the WTC Final. Basically, the places where you can draw a crowd. Because Lord's is not a 100,000-seater stadium. So, irrespective of which team is playing, you know you will get a good crowd," Shastri expressed during a Wisden Cricket podcast. India's Day 2 at the Nets in Edgbaston | IND vs ENG Test Series The discussion about venue selection has gained prominence as England is expected to continue hosting the WTC finals for the next two cycles. According to the International Cricket Council's Future Tours Program, the 2027 WTC Final is scheduled to be held at Lord's, with subsequent finals planned for 2029 and 2031. The Board of Control for Cricket in India's recent bid to host the 2027 WTC final was unsuccessful. The decision favored England due to its consistent support for neutral Test matches. London venues have demonstrated their ability to attract neutral cricket enthusiasts who appreciate the longest format of the game. However, Shastri's suggestion points to the potential of hosting future championships at larger venues like the Narendra Modi Stadium in India and the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia. Quiz: Who's that IPL player? These proposed alternative venues offer significantly larger seating capacities compared to traditional English cricket grounds. This capacity difference could potentially accommodate more spectators once the World Test Championship establishes a stronger following among global cricket audiences. The progression of WTC final venues reflects the evolving nature of Test cricket's premier championship event. While maintaining its current base in England, the tournament shows potential for geographical expansion as it continues to develop its global appeal and fan following. The ongoing discussion about venue selection highlights the balance between tradition and growth in Test cricket's flagship event. England's role as the current host nation has established a foundation for the championship, while future possibilities remain open for expansion to other major cricket venues worldwide. Gautam Gambhir - Shubman Gill sent ‘no brainer' message ahead of Edgbaston Test: ‘You have to play him…'

Team India failed to hand a defeat to the hosts during the 1st Test match at Leeds as they eventually lost the encounter by 5 wickets despite having five centurions in their ranks. As a young team under Shubman Gill's leadership looks to make a comeback in the Edgbaston Test, they will have serious doubts about the ability to take 20 wickets in the upcoming match especially given that Jasprit Bumrah may not feature in the fixture. Bumrah could be replaced in the upcoming match by left arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. However, there is also a growing call in the cricket fraternity that India should include the services of wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav for the upcoming Test match in order to bolster the Indian bowling attack. Former Australian cricketer Michael Clarke has said in his Beyond 23 podcast that the inclusion of Yadav in playing XI should be a no brainer for the Edgbaston Test. "Bowling-wise, I do not want to be hard on any individual, but I think they've got to play Kuldeep Yadav. I think it is an absolute no-brainer. I think he's a wicket-taker and would have offered a lot more than what he saw the attack do in this Test," Clarke said on his podcast. 'India have done this for a while. They care so much about extra batting or stacking the batting deep, and they are willing to risk picking the number one spinner to do that. I think to win in England, you've got to look to pick 20 wickets," he added. Prior to Clarke, even former English star Nick Knight has also asked for the inclusion of Yadav for the 2nd Test match. He said, 'I would be looking for every opportunity to play Kuldeep Yadav. England will find it hard against Kuldeep. If Kuldeep is on top of his game, that could be a defining moment in the series, or moments, because England likes to be aggressive. When you want to be aggressive, you have to be certain about which way the ball is turning. If there is a little bit of assistance from the pitch, Kuldeep will be able to bowl all his varieties,'

'I made your name': Ex-England cricketer on Sachin Tendulkar vs Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli bows down to Sachin Tendulkar after breaking his record of most number of centuries in the ODIs during the 2023 ODI World Cup. Former England cricketer Allan Lamb has picked his favourite Indian batter of all time. The 71-year-old, who represented England in three World Cups and 79 Tests, said Sachin Tendulkar is the best India has ever produced. "Sachin easily," Lamb told PTI. He then explained how he helped make Sachin's career: "I played against him when he was 18. I dropped him at slip and he went on to get 100 (in a Test match). So I always say to him, it was me that made your name." Arshdeep vs Morkel: WWE at the Nets! | Team India's Lighter Moment in Birmingham Lamb then explained why he picked Tendulkar ahead of Gavaskar and Kohli. "Kohli is a brilliant player, he's got all the shots, he can score quickly. But if you want the best player I played against, that Indian player is Sachin, even ahead of Sunny. "The only thing I would have liked was to see Sachin play against the West Indies, where Sunny scored runs against the West Indies. He was probably the only Indian to score runs against those quicks," he said. Poll Do you agree with Allan Lamb's choice of Sachin Tendulkar as the best Indian batter? Yes No Not Sure But Lamb's favourite Indian cricketer of all time was his former Northamptonshire teammate Kapil Dev . "I loved the way Kapil Dev played. We played together at Northampton," he recalled. "I remember him coming over and me saying, 'Kapi, I'm so pleased that you've come over. We need to strengthen our bowling.' He said, 'No, I haven't come to strengthen my bowling. I've come to better my batting. I've come here as a batsman,' which I always enjoyed," he added.
