Metro Line 3 trial run conducted on 4km stretch; 88% of work completed

une: A second trial run of the Metro Line 3 project, connecting Hinjewadi IT Park with Shivajinagar, was conducted recently on a 4km stretch between Maan Depot and station PMR04.
The trial, conducted earlier this week, was carried out at a speed of 40 kmph to test the track and system readiness, said Metro officials. The previous trial run was conducted early this month.
"We have achieved 88% progress in project completion and will continue with more trial runs along the stretch," said a senior PMRDA official. Officials said the trial run is part of a series of tests planned in the run-up to the commissioning and marks a major step toward operational readiness.

The 23.3km fully elevated corridor is being developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model between Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd, led by the Tata Group. The project's appointed date was Nov 25, 2021, with the commercial operation date (COD) being March 2026. "We are speeding up work on the entire stretch with trial runs and more coaches are expected to arrive soon,'' said the official.
Once operational, Metro Line 3 will feature 23 stations and offer seamless connectivity with existing Metro lines, aiming to ease traffic congestion and improve urban mobility along the city's bustling IT corridor, added officials.
Five modern train sets, manufactured by Alstom, have arrived in Pune. Each set comprises three fully air-conditioned coaches with a total capacity of around 1,000 passengers. The trains can run at speeds of up to 80 kmph and operate on a 750V DC third-rail electrification system, ensuring smooth and energy-efficient transit, said the official.
The corridor would be operated using CBTC (communication-based train control) signalling technology, known for enhancing safety, reliability, and frequency of Metro services, added officials.

In a major urban transit milestone for Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has announced that the Bhopal Metro Rail's priority corridor will be inaugurated in October 2025, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to officiate the launch. The announcement signals the near completion of the AIIMS to Subhash Nagar stretch, the first operational segment of the city's long-awaited Metro project. Dr Yadav on Sunday personally supervised the progress and covered a short distance on the priority corridor. Developed at an estimated cost of Rs 2,225 crore, the priority corridor covers approximately 7.5 kilometres and comprises eight elevated stations.
