Mom Doesn't Want Ex-Husband's Wife Present the Morning of Her Daughter's Wedding - Wonders If She's Being ‘Old-Fashioned'

A mother is wondering if she's 'old-fashioned' for not wanting her ex-husband's wife there the morning of her daughter's wedding
She wants the morning to be 'intimate' and doesn't understand why the other woman expects to be 'involved'
The mother shared her story on Mumsnet, where it sparked much debateA woman is wondering if she's 'old-fashioned' for not wanting her ex-husband's wife present on the morning of her daughter's wedding.
The woman detailed her story in the 'Am I Being Unreasonable?' forum on the U.K.-based community site Mumsnet. She explained that her daughter is getting married soon, and said it will be a 'low-key affair.'
'I booked the hairdresser for the wedding — made the booking for my daughter and myself as the mother of the bride. There aren't any bridesmaids or sisters, so I figured it would be just the two of us,' she said.
However, the original poster (OP) recently found out that her daughter's stepmother is 'upset' that she wasn't included in the morning wedding plans.
'[My ex-husband and his wife] got together when my daughter was about 15, so it's not like she raised her or they ever lived together,' the woman explained.
The OP said that she ultimately told her daughter's stepmother that it would be 'fine' if she joined — but admitted to her fellow Mumsnet members that she's not happy about it.

'I was expecting it to be intimate, just me and my daughter,' she said before adding, 'I've already told my mother she can't be there the morning before the wedding. Why does everyone expect to be involved?'
'I thought it was mother, daughter and bridesmaids only. Or is that old-fashioned now?' the OP asked at the end of her post.
Several commenters told the OP that they thought her feelings were totally valid given the circumstances.
'It's okay to want to spend the morning just you and your daughter without the stepmother muscling in,' one person said.
'No, you're not a villain for not including her [...], and I don't think you'd be doing anything wrong to tell your [daughter] that you find it intrusive and upsetting,' said someone else.
However, several other commenters noted that the OP's post is missing a vital piece of information— specifically, how her daughter feels about the situation.

'There's nothing in here about what your daughter wants? It's her choice, not yours!' one person said.
'You haven't mentioned your daughter's wishes at all. Her wedding, her call,' added someone else.
Another person encouraged the OP to ask her daughter what *she* wants on her special day.
'My daughter's stepmother has a bit of a habit of overstepping,' the person said, adding, 'I would speak with your daughter and find out what she honestly wants for herself.'

A Promising Update On ‘Heads Of State 2' On Amazon Prime Video

Heads of State Amazon has found an original hit movie in the form of Heads of State, which isn't in theaters but airing on its streaming platform with an array of big-name stars. Heads of State stars John Cena, Idris Elba, Priyanka Chopra-Jones and Jack Quaid, as the UK prime minister (Elba) and US President (John Cena) join forces in a comedy action film that would make Harrison Ford blush in Air Force One with their combat prowess. Here's the synopsis: The film has performed well, planted at #1 on Amazon Prime Video, and naturally, conversation has turned toward a potential sequel. In an interview with Screenrant, director Ilya Naishuller (formerly of Hardcore Henry, an amazing overlooked action movie) talked about a sequel: 'If [people] watch the movie and enjoy it, and Amazon feels like it makes sense to do a second one, absolutely. I'd love to get more of Jack in there [and] more of Marty.' He really likes Jack Quaid: 'If it's not Heads of State 2, I will be bugging Jack to work together again,' the director said, 'because he comes in, he knows what he's doing, he's an incredible energy in terms of his positivity and the desire to not just be here and do a great job, but to go above and beyond.' Heads of State 2 How likely is this? The concept lends itself to more adventures, as does its clearly solid viewership. That said, this isn't a sure thing, and while a number of Amazon Prime Original sequels are in development, only a few have been released. Those would include Road House, The Tomorrow War and Red, White and Royal Blue, among others. So if Heads of State 2 is announced, expect it to be in development for a long while like these other films. Given the viewership and audience response, it would make sense for the film to get a sequel. But until that happens I would 1,000% recommend you watch Ilya Naishuller's Hardcore Henry which may lack star power, but is one of the most memorable, thrilling action films I've ever seen, and totally unique in the genre. Naomi Watts, BTS' Kim Taehyung and more turn out for Celine fashion show

It was eerily still in Paris on Sunday, as the streets came to a standstill for 'Paris Respire', a car-free scheme where certain districts in the city are closed to motorized traffic for the day. Yet, the Tuileries Gardens was buzzing with a stylish crowd, many of whom wore the same white scarf tied around their neck, wrist, or bag. Far from it being a coincidence, the scarf was part of the invitation that luxury label Celine had sent to guests invited to see its Spring 2026 collection. Staged at the brand's Right Bank headquarters, a day before Paris Haute Couture Week, the show was notable: Not only was it Celine's first in years (the last physical show took place in December 2022, under its former designer Hedi Slimane, who preferred to his present his collections via short films), it also offered a first look at the highly anticipated debut designs under new artistic director Michael Rider. Since being appointed at Celine in October last year, taking up the role in early 2025 after six years at Polo Ralph Lauren, Rider has laid low. While French luxury house Dior sought to drum up interest for its new designer Jonathan Anderson by teasing elements of the new collection on social media, Celine has kept everything under wraps, with the silk scarf invite — which also features in the brand's advertisements plastered across Paris — being the only indicator for what to expect. A bevy of high-profile stars sat under a giant carré de soie (silk pocket square) stretched like a canopy in the courtyard. These included Naomi Watts, Kristen Wiig, and Kim Taehyung, better known as V, from K-pop band BTS, who arrived on a bicycle. Singer Alanis Morisette told CNN ahead of the show that she had 'so much anticipation to see what Michael Rider has done.' Other fashion designers including Jonathan Anderson and Raf Simons, formerly of Jil Sander, Dior and Calvin Klein, also turned out to show their support. The show, which took place in the rain (attendees were given Celine-branded umbrellas), comprised both men and womenswear. There were nods to the brand's past, whether it was the references to the 1970s archives, the clean lines reminiscent of former designer Phoebe Philo (who amassed a cult following known as 'Philophiles' during her tenure), or the lean silhouettes favored by Slimane. Also present were culottes paired with flat Mary Janes and a full flash of the Eighties: balloon-leg washed denim trousers, high-waisted pants tucked into boxing boots, and a tweed jacket with wide shoulders. Horsebit detailing adorned slim ankle boots. But Rider also wove in references to his own past — an argyle jumper could have come straight out of a Ralph Lauren collection, while flounced hems on a knit cardigan recalled Balenciaga's cocoon shapes during Rider's time working under designer Nicolas Ghesquière in the early noughties. There were personal playful touches, too: see the opulent stacked jewelry, rings on every finger. In all, there was a preppy American feel intertwined with French sophistication in the looks. Law Roach, stylist to the stars including Zendaya, seemed to have an inkling for what was coming. 'I want to see this American flair in this Parisian house… I'm so excited to see the newness,' he told CNN ahead of the show, nodding to the long history of American designers in Paris, including Michael Kors who designed Celine from 1997 to 2004. Rider is stepping into big shoes: His predecessor turned Celine into a commercial heavyweight, bringing in an estimated €2.5 billion ($2.76 billion) annually, with the expansion of menswear, leather goods, and fragrance — areas that Rider will continue to oversee. But with his deep familiarity with the Celine maison, he seems intent on ushering in a chapter that is less about spectacle and more about nuance — an approach that tends to age well in fashion.

Rivals actor keen to return to set after being cleared of assault

An actor who was arrested while filming on the set of Rivals has said he hopes to return to the show after being cleared of assault. Nigel Adams, 45, from Weston-super-Mare, was detained by officers from Avon and Somerset Police at Berkley Castle in Gloucestershire on June 4. He had been on set for Rivals, a Disney+ show starring David Tennant, Danny Dyer and Emily Atack, which is based on the Dame Jilly Cooper novel of the same name. Following his arrest, Mr Adams was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm on his long-term partner Louise Payne on May 31 this year. Mr Adams and Ms Payne, who have been engaged for seven years, attended Bristol Crown Court on Monday morning for a plea and trial preparation hearing. The actor pleaded not guilty to the charge, with the prosecution offering no evidence against him as Ms Payne did not support the case. Judge William Hart said: 'I will return a not guilty verdict. 'A not guilty verdict, you are free to leave, thank you.' Speaking outside court, Mr Adams said he would now speak to his agent with a view to returning to Rivals. He described how officers from Avon and Somerset Police attended the Rivals set and arrested him. He told the PA news agency: 'They turned up on set and nicked me like I was a wanted man on the run. 'Now I can get back with my agent and get back on Rivals, hopefully. I still have the costume.' He added: 'I'm grateful everything has been sorted. We just want to get on with our lives.' His partner, Ms Payne, said: 'I didn't want to press charges from the beginning. 'I had to come to court to say I didn't want to go ahead with it. I'm happy it's all sorted.' During the short court hearing, Christine Hart appeared for the prosecution while Caighli Taylor represented Mr Adams. Ms Hart told the court: 'Subsequent to the case being charged, there is a statement by Ms Payne. 'She is here at court today, she sits in the public gallery. She has made it clear she didn't wish to proceed with the case. I have spoken to her at length, as has the officer in charge. 'Taking into account the evidence already in the case and that statement, the only option I have is to offer no evidence on the outstanding count.' A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed an arrest took place in Berkley, Gloucestershire on June 4. 'It related to an assault investigation following a reported incident at an address in Weston-super-Mare on May 31,' he added. Happy Prince, the production company for Rivals, has been contacted for comment.
