Shannen Doherty's famous friends post heartbreaking tributes a year after her death
On Sunday, July 13, stars like Sarah Michelle Gellar, Rose McGowan, Holly Marie Combs and Tori Spelling shared a series of tributes to their friend on social media.
Gellar posted a video montage of photos with Doherty, showing them sharing hugs, riding horseback and baking pies, among other personal moments. The compilation was set to Wiz Khalifa's See You Again and captioned with a broken heart emoji.
Charmed star McGowan shared a throwback photo of Doherty sporting all black with blown out hair and a cigarette in her mouth.
'You are missed #shannendoherty,' she wrote over the photo.
McGowan also reposted a story showing her and Combs standing with Doherty, writing, 'One year today you had to fly, but we on the physical plane of existence, think about you every day with love and gratitude.' She added a dove and heart hands emoji.
Tori Spelling shared a series of throwback photos in honor of Doherty, as well as a lengthy tribute.
'It's been a year,' she began in the post. 'Grief is weird. It presents itself in different ways and at different times but never fades. Just like your memory. In fact, it burns epically in my soul more and more as the days pass.'
Spelling said she's now living in the 'after' of their friendship story and shared a series of lessons Doherty taught her.
'You always told me to stop apologising for myself. To stop playing small. To stop trying to be palatable when I was born to be powerful. You taught me to turn my power on and let it shine,' she wrote.
Over the past year, Spelling said she's honored Doherty 'by telling the truth louder. By choosing softness when I could've chosen armor. And by saying 'no' more than I ever used to — because you would've.'
'This isn't closure. This is continuation. And I promise — the torch you passed is lit. And it's not going out,' she concluded the post, calling Doherty her 'warrior friend', adding, 'Stay wild. Stay rebellious. Your power is your cause'.
Doherty died July 13, 2024, at 53 after a long journey with breast cancer, her longtime publicist Leslie Sloane shared in a statement at the time.
The actor was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, then shared that she was in remission two years later. In 2020, she announced that the cancer had returned as Stage 4.

Tori Spelling reveals Dean McDermott once called her Donna Martin
Dean McDermott once called out the name of Tori Spelling's Beverly Hills, 90210 character during an intimate moment. The 52-year-old actress played Donna Martin on the hit TV show between 1990 and 2000, and Tori has revealed that her ex-husband was a fan of her on-screen character. Asked if she's ever role-played as Donna during an intimate scenario, Tori said on the MisSpelling podcast: "I haven't been with that many people, and I've been in mostly long-term relationships. No. But I ... that would creep me out. I don't know. "If I was intimate with a man and he was like, 'Will you role play? Will you act like Donna Martin?' That would really creep me out." Despite this, Tori subsequently noted that Dean had a "big crush" on her from her time on Beverly Hills, 90210. She explained: "Dean, my ex, when we met, he was telling me that he had a big crush on me and that and he would always have his hockey game with all his buddies on Wednesday night, and he would always get out of there early. "They'd be in the locker room, 'You gotta go home and see your girlfriend.' And he was like, 'Yeah. No shame. I'm going home. I'm a guy. I'm watching 90210. I have a crush on Tori Spelling.'" The actress then recalled one particularly awkward moment with her ex-husband. Tori - who was married to Dean between 2006 and 2024 - shared: "I always thought I was like, 'Are you just making that up to get with me?' But, no. At some point during one of our sessions, during sex, [he] said, 'Oh, my little Donna Martin.' "I might have giggled back like Donna." Meanwhile, Tori previously claimed that she wishes her sex tape had leaked. The TV star and her ex-husband once filmed themselves during an intimate moment and the footage almost went public. She said on her MisSpelling podcast: "[He] had it on our computer at home, and a friend he thought was a friend stayed at our house while we took the kids to Hawaii. Anyway, [the friend] took the computer and tried to sell [the tape] to Vivid Video. "They actually contacted us and said, 'We want to let you know we didn't accept it'. I said, 'Why? Were my angles not good?' "So we had to get a restraining order on this guy."

'Kind heart': Ian Ziering remembers Shannen Doherty
Ian Ziering has pair tribute to the "beautiful chaos" of Beverly Hills 90210 co-star Shannen Doherty on the anniversary of her death. The 61-year-old actor's Beverly Hills 90210 co-star died of cancer at the age of 53 on July 13, 2024, and to mark one year since her death, the Sharknado star acknowledged they had had their differences but he still missed her and her "kind heart". Sharing a photo of himself and Doherty hugging, Ian wrote on Instagram: I miss Shannen. We clashed now and then in the early years of 90210 - two strong personalities will do that - but we always had respect. I was the wisecracking comic relief; she was the beautiful chaos, the after-hours headline, the girl who could trash a hotel room and make the tabloids love her for it. (Stop laughing, Shan. You know it's true.). "So, my dear Shannen - I think of you often. Your grit. Your fire. Your kind heart that so few really got to see. I still carry all of it with me. Rest easy, Shan (Sic)" Ziering also noted in his post that he had faced criticism after the Charmed actor's deadth because he did not pay a public tribute, but he insisted he felt grief was a "personal" issue. Beverly Hills 90210 actor Tori Spelling also marked the anniversary of Doherty's death by reflecting on how she has been trying to live in the way her friend advised to, and speaking up for herself more in order to let her power "shine". Alongside a gallery of throwback photos, Tori wrote: "It's been a year. "Grief is weird. It presents itself in different ways and at different times but never fades. Just like your memory. In fact, it burns epically in my soul more and more as the days pass. "You and I already told the beginning of our story. "Now I'm living the after. "The part where I carry everything you taught me. "You always told me to stop apologising for myself. "To stop playing small. "To stop trying to be palatable when I was born to be powerful. "You taught me to turn my power on and let it shine."
