Mumbai:
Three top pacers of the country – Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan – underwent successful surgeries last month following the conclusion of IPL 2025. The trio are now out of action for the next six months, TOI has reliably learnt.
Incidentally, all three fast bowlers represent Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL.

The injury-prone Mayank Yadav, who burst onto the scene last year, underwent back surgery conducted by Dr Rowan Schouten in Christchurch, New Zealand, last month.
"He's out for six to eight months," a reliable source told this paper on Wednesday.
Troubled by a back injury, Mayank played only two matches for LSG this season before breaking down again.
In an injury-plagued career, the 23-year-old Delhi pacer has played just three T20Is for India, against Bangladesh last year.
Both Avesh and Mohsin underwent knee surgeries conducted by renowned Mumbai-based orthopedic surgeon Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala (who has operated on Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and many others).
While Avesh, who plays for Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket, underwent surgery on his right knee on June 17, Mohsin underwent an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction on his knee last month.
The trio will miss the first half of the 2025-26 domestic cricket season and are likely to return to action during the second leg of the Ranji Trophy next year.
They will undergo rehab at the
BCCI
's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Avesh Khan
Mohsin Khan
It is understood that Mohsin tore the ACL in his right knee on December 31 while playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. However, the left-arm quick later joined the LSG camp ahead of IPL 2025 but failed to recover from his injury and was replaced by India all-rounder Shardul Thakur.
The knee injury had troubled Avesh during the 2024-25 domestic season, and he was forced to miss Madhya Pradesh's last Ranji Trophy league match. The injury also forced Avesh to miss the initial stage of IPL 2025. He finished with 13 wickets in 13 matches.
Avesh's last India appearance was in December last year in an ODI in Paarl against South Africa. Overall, the 28-year-old pacer has taken 36 wickets in 33 white-ball internationals (25 T20Is & eight ODIs) for India.
Rajat Patidar likely to miss Duleep Trophy
Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL 2025 captain Rajat Patidar is also set to miss the Duleep Trophy, as the Madhya Pradesh batter has been advised to "take rest" by the BCCI's medical team. He is recovering from hand and heel injuries, TOI has learnt.
'Rajat is training at MP's off-season camp, but he's not been batting, as he has been advised to take a break and recover from the injury in his right hand by the BCCI's medical team. He will miss the Duleep Trophy but should be fine for the Ranji Trophy,' a source revealed.
Patidar was in the fray for the England tour but missed out due to the hand injury he picked up during RCB's title-winning season.

Shashi Tharoor lists India's standout performers in ENG series, sends Sarfaraz Khan reminder to Gautam Gambhir

Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor has shared his key takeaways from the recently concluded India vs England Test series where the Shubman Gill led side managed to match the series 2-2 after a famous win at The Oval on Monday. While the Indian parliamentarian was happy with the performance of a number of Indian players including the skipper himself and pacer Mohammed Siraj, he also sent a timely reminder to Gautam Gambhir and BCCI about some of the shortcomings of the side. Focusing on his takeaways from the series, Tharoor wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter), "Takeaways for #TeamIndia after #INDvsENG : Gill's batting; Siraj's bowling;Jaiswal's flowering;Rahul's steadiness;Pant's brilliance;Washington's versatility; Jadeja's reliability;Prasidh's & AkashDeep's improvement." ' Still need to find: a strong middle order bat capable of taking the fight to the opposition: remember @sarfarazkhan977?; more pace-bowling backups for @Jaspritbumrah93; & a fast-bowling all-rounder in the @hardikpandya7 mould (but with the gumption to face the rigours of Test cricket). Chak De India! 🇮🇳 @BCCI @GautamGambhir' Tharoor added. The India - England series came to a nail biting finish at The Oval with just 7 runs remaining for the hosts to win while the last batter Chris Woakes on the crease with a sling on for his dislocated shoulder and Gus Atkinson swinging his bat to get to the finish line. Mohammed Siraj, however, stood out for the visitors as he finished the match with a 143kmph delivery on the base of off stump to decastle Atkinson and win the match for India while levelling the series 2-2. Going in to the series, not many cricketing pundits had given the young team led by Gill a chance with veterans like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli out of the side after their retirement. The new look India side have punched above their weight with some player or the other standing up in each game to keep India alive in the series. India had lost the first match at Leeds but then came back strongly to level the series at Edgbaston. However, a heartbreak for Indian fans at Lords saw England taking the lead once again in the series. While it looked like England would take a 3-1 lead in the series at Manchester, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar batted almost a whole day to see the match end in a draw.

Mohammed Siraj couldn't forgive himself, kept thinking about Harry Brook's catch: ‘How could I do this…'

Life came full circle for Mohammed Siraj in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. From the extreme lows at the Lord's Test to the extreme highs at the Oval, the 31-year-old pacer from Hyderabad witnessed a plethora of emotions, perfectly explaining that sport is a great leveller. At Lord's, Siraj was in his haunches after seeing the bails come off. The No.11 batter played a perfect forward defence off the bowling of Shoaib Bashir; however, the ball rolled back onto the stumps, and the bails fell, giving England a thrilling 22-run win. Mohammed Siraj returned with five wickets in second innings of the Oval Test. (Action Images via Reuters) However, fate had ecstasy in store for Siraj, too, as the Indian pacer led Shubman Gill and co. to a thrilling win at the Oval. He returned with five wickets in the second innings, giving the side a thrilling six-run win to level the five-match series 2-2. But the joy of leading India to a win didn't come easily. Siraj was once again at the centre on Day 4 when he failed to grab the catch off Harry Brook at the boundary ropes. The right-handed batter went for a pull shot off the bowling of Prasidh Krishna. However, he miscued it, and Siraj settled at the boundary ropes for what seemed a simple catch. Siraj did take the catch cleanly; however, his foot touched the boundary cushion, and as a result, Brook got a reprieve. England added six more runs to the total in their chase of 374. The 26-year-old batter went on to score 111 runs, and England looked set to make it 3-1. However, once Harry Brook fell, the floodgates opened, and India barged through the door. Siraj did the clean-up job on the final day, where England required 35 runs more with four wickets in hand. Also Read: Morne Morkel lifts Gautam Gambhir like a baby, India head coach screams in his ears: Wild scenes in dressing room Siraj, who was adjudged as Player of the Match, has now revealed that he was unable to sleep after play on Day 4 as his mind kept thinking about Harry Brook's catch. 'To be honest, I cannot describe my emotions. When I was going to sleep after stumps on Day 4, I kept thinking about the dropped catch of Harry Brook. I was just thinking, 'How could I have done such a thing?' If I had taken it cleanly, we wouldn't be here right now. We would have been chilling in our hotel rooms,' said Siraj in a video posted on the BCCI website. 'God's plan' Siraj finished as the leading wicket-taker in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with 23 scalps to his name. The 31-year-old really stepped up in Jasprit Bumrah's absence, thriving in the responsibility of leading the pace attack. In the two Tests where Bumrah didn't play, Siraj brought out the best in himself, leading the attack and ensuring India's victory. 'But I guess it was God's plan. The result is there for everyone to see. I wake up in the morning, I knew that I could make it happen. I always had the belief in myself. I put the 'believe' wallpaper on my phone. I just want to thank everyone. Every batter, bowler, hats off to them. This comeback was crazy,' said Siraj. Siraj who dropped a banger the T20 World Cup 2024, saying, 'I only believe in Jassi Bhai', came up with another astonishing line, perhaps realising his own importance this time around. 'I missed Jassi Bhai. He has a different presence about himself. I only believe in Jassi bhai and myself,' he added.
