Sunbathing on beaches is dangerous thanks to Jeep drivers who apparently don't look out for people enjoying the warm weather. That's a painful lesson a 33-year-old man learned on the morning of April 5 as he was laying on the sand at Ormond Beach when an unaware Jeep Wrangler driver just rolled right over him.According to a release from Volusia Sheriff's Office, the 61-year-old female driver 'traveled outside of the travel lanes to back into a parking spot' then ran over the sunbather.
Why the Jeep driver decided to go outside the designated area is up for debate, but we think it has something to do with why Wrangler owners like to park on piled up snow in parking lots: because they can.
That careless action, and the failure to see the man lying on the beach, resulted in serious injuries for the 33-year-old. While he's lucky to be alive, local news station WESH 2 reports the guy has two breaks in his forearm, a broken femur, scratched eye, and bruising.
He's currently in the hospital recovering after doctors put a titanium rod in his broken leg.
We wouldn't be surprised if this incident results in a lawsuit or two. But of all the things to be upset about, the man's aunt seems to be focused on the actions of the EMS vehicle that arrived on the scene to assist her nephew.
She told WESH 2 the splint to stabilize one of the broken bones didn't work. She also claims the EMS vehicle was stuck in the sand repeatedly, delaying its response to the emergency situation. One would think being in a beach community and at least sometimes having to drive on sand the vehicle and driver would be ready for just that situation. Apparently, one would be wrong assuming that.
So far, the sheriff's office says the Jeep driver has been charged with careless driving. However, an investigation is ongoing, so she might be facing additional charges.
Do you think it's time to ban Jeeps from driving on beaches?

Two to tango: Dancer claims rep was ruined by NYC shrink who accused him of spiking drink

It takes two to tango but apparently just one after-party to ruin a reputation. A suburban Seattle man and tango enthusiast claims a gin-soaked late-night gathering at a California Airbnb with his fellow dance lovers left him shunned when one later accused him of spiking the drinks. Eduard Koller showed up at a small gathering after the March 2023 Southern California Tango Festival with tequila and 'a gin-based cocktail' in hand, according to a lawsuit. The party broke up without incident and Koller, 55, took an Uber back to his hotel along with four of his party guests. Eduard Koller claims he was never alone with his accuser and never spiked anyone's drink. Eduard Koller/Facebook But a year later, Koller claims he was barred from a tango marathon in Massachusetts because the co-organizer believed he'd been 'inappropriate,' he said in Manhattan Supreme Court papers. James Oh allegedly told the Redmond, Wash. man only that he'd received 'multiple credible claims of inappropriate and harmful behaviors by you. And I'm not comfortable letting you be part of any event I'm organizing or co-organizing,' according to the litigation. Nimroody and Koller only met three times, he said in court papers. Tehela Nimroody /Facebook Koller later learned Upper East Side psychologist Tehela Nimroody had accused him of tampering with her beverage during the California after-party, he said in legal papers. The pair were not alone during the party in question and 'did not share any other type of relationship or interactions' aside from meeting at three tango events between 2022 and 2024, Koller claimed. Nimroody allegedly ignored a Facebook message Koller sent seeking to clarify her claim, he noted. Koller is seeking unspecified damages and wants a court order barring Oh and Nimroody from posting any 'defamatory and injurious content' about him. Oh declined comment on the litigation. Nimroody did not respond to messages.

'Sick to my stomach': New York golf course suffers severe damage from vandals

A New York-area golf club is recovering from vandals tearing up some of its fairways and greens. The private club Skenandoa Club, located in Clinton, New York, posted several photos of the severe damage done to the golf course, with tire marks all over. "I'm literally sick to my stomach," says the post written by owner Michael Intartaglia. And you can see why. The damage occurred on the eight green and ninth hole tee, fairway and bunker. One of the golf club's Facebook followers crunched some numbers on what the potential repair bill might look like: Estimated Total Damage Range: The vandals drove a large vehicle sometime late Tuesday/early Wednesday this week. The mostly private course does accept some public play Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday.

Man, 31, shot down outside Brooklyn home

A 31-year-old man was gunned down outside of his Brooklyn home, cops said Friday. Hakeim Hutchinson, 31, was outside his Rockaway Parkway home near Ditmas Ave. in Canarsie at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday when a man in a white t-shirt and black sweatpants stormed up to him and shot him in the chest. A witness in Hutchinson's home heard the shot and looked outside, finding the victim sprawled out on the sidewalk, a police source said. A second witness heard the shot and saw the gunman running down Rockaway Parkway toward Ditmas Ave. EMS rushed Hutchinson to Brookdale University Hospital, where he died. The gunman ran off. No arrests have been made. Cops on Friday were scouring the area looking for surveillance footage that will help them identify the shooter.
