PDRM to investigate AI-edited gambling videos
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said gambling cases currently often involve influencers and are promoted through images.
While the police have not yet received any reports of artists being edited into such videos with the help of AI, Razarudin affirmed that investigations will be carried out and urged victims of these syndicates to lodge a police report.
'For the record, a total of 28 investigation papers under Op Dadu have been opened, involving the arrests of influencers in the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor contingents in 2024.
'Out of those investigation papers, 18 have been charged, while 10 are still under investigation,' he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.
He added that the police have blocked gambling websites from 2021 to 2024.
Meanwhile, 7,800 raids targeting gambling syndicates have been conducted from 2024 until this year, resulting in 9,460 arrests.
'The use of advanced technology with high security levels is among the challenges faced by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in providing evidence when suspects are charged in court, particularly in gambling cases involving Online Gambling (Judi Dalam Talian - JOL),' Razarudin was also quoted as saying.
Furthermore, he stated that the absence of the term 'online gambling' in Malaysia's existing legislation presents difficulties for law enforcement, with such cases often being challenged in court.
'Outdated legal provisions that have not been amended since 1953 — with penalties that remain low and affordable for syndicates — pose a challenge for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
PDRM issues a stern warning to individuals involved in online gambling activities that legal action will be taken without compromise.
Syndicates and members of the public involved in these activities can face severe punishment, including fines and imprisonment,' he added.

'The victims' bodies were taken to the Kota Tinggi Hospital, while the lorry driver has yet to be traced,' he said in a statement. MIRI (July 27): A total of 13 motorcycles were seized and 57 summonses issued during 'Op Samseng Jalanan' conducted at various locations here last night. Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation, carried out by Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of Miri District Police Headquarters, took place at Jalan Bandaraya Miri, Jalan Marina Utama, Jalan Miri Bypass, Jalan Tanjong Lobang, Jalan Tudan, Jalan Permyjaya, Jalan Taman Tunku, and Jalan Canada Hill, from 10pm on July 26 until 3am on July 27. 'During the operation, 13 vehicles were inspected, and all of the motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 after being found modified from their original structure and for further inspection,' he said in a statement. He added that 13 individuals were also inspected and 57 PDRM (K) 257 summonses were issued for various traffic offences. Mohd Farhan said that similar operations will be carried out from time to time to ensure road users comply with traffic laws and regulations. He urged road users, especially motorcyclists, to ride responsibly and cautiously, avoid illegal vehicle modifications, and refrain from roadside gathering which can lead to congestion and noise disturbances. Sabah school dorm tragedy: MoE reassures public of transparent, impartial investigation
PUTRAJAYA, July 27 — The Ministry of Education (MOE) has assured that the investigation into the death of Form One student, Zara Qairina Mahathir, is being conducted in a transparent and impartial manner. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said all parties must allow the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to carry out a thorough and detailed investigation into the case. 'We now fully hand over the matter to PDRM and give our full commitment to ensure that the investigation is conducted fairly,' she told reporters after attending the 2025 Prime Minister's Cup Debate Finals here on Saturday. She added that upon completion of the investigation, the MOE would take follow-up action in accordance with existing laws. 'We never take any case lightly, especially those involving the welfare and well-being of our students and staff. In this case, I urge everyone to allow space for a transparent and open investigation,' she said. Fadhlina added that several crisis intervention measures are currently being implemented, including psychological and emotional support for school staff and the victim's family. 'This situation also affects the overall well-being of the school community. In a statement, the department said the task force was formed to implement crisis and trauma intervention measures, including support for pupils, teachers, and school staff affected by the incident. The department also stressed that its immediate priority is to safeguard the well-being of Zara Qairina's family. 'The department has provided immediate assistance. We have also organised several outreach visits to engage with the family and share updates on the case. 'Psychosocial support services have also been made available.
