Consultant appointed to study Indrayani River rejuvenation DPR
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is awaiting final approval from the Central Government for the ₹671-crore Indrayani River Rejuvenation Project. The proposal has been pending with the National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti since August 2024.
To expedite the process, PMRDA on Friday appointed a consultant to review the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and carry out preparatory work. The appointment follows a tender floated in May 2025.
The rejuvenation plan covers 87.5 km of the Indrayani River within PMRDA's jurisdiction. Of the total 105.3 km river length, 18 km falls under the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), which is not part of the project scope. The initiative aims to reduce pollution from domestic sewage and industrial waste and restore the river's ecological health.
The river flows through several municipal and rural bodies, including Lonavala, Talegaon Dabhade, Alandi, Vadgaon, Dehu, the Dehu Road Cantonment Board, and over 48 villages, including 39 gram panchayats. It also serves as the primary water source for Alandi city.
As part of the project, 38 sewage treatment plants (STPs), 20 in urban areas and 18 in rural areas, will be constructed to treat wastewater from both banks of the river.
The DPR, which includes a provision for 15 years of operation and maintenance, has been evaluated by IIT-Roorkee. The capital cost will be shared between the Central and State Governments in a 60:40 ratio. PMRDA has already secured administrative approval of ₹793 crore through Authority Resolution No. 11/10 dated September 24, 2024.
'We are waiting for final clearance from the NRCD. Meanwhile, we have appointed a consultant to review the DPR and conduct a detailed survey, including civil, mechanical, electrical, automation, and SCADA works,' said Anita Kulkarni, executive engineer, PMRDA.
She added that a review meeting is scheduled next week, after which instructions will be issued. 'The consultant is expected to begin fieldwork by next month,' she confirmed.
The consultant's responsibilities also include securing necessary approvals, preparing tender documents, managing the bidding process, and coordinating with government bodies. They will function as the Project Management Consultant and Technical Auditor during implementation, and later oversee the operation and maintenance of the infrastructure for up to 15 years.
The project is expected to improve water quality and environmental health for thousands of residents across the Pune metropolitan region.

Edappally-Aroor elevated highway to pass above metro viaduct: DPR
KOCHI: The proposed flyover at Palarivattom bypass Junction, to be constructed as part of the Edappally-Aroor elevated highway, will pass above the Kochi Metro viaduct, according to the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) submitted by the project consultant to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). 'As per the revised DPR, the flyover is now slated to come up above the metro viaduct of the Pink Line, the construction of which is progressing in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium-Infopark stretch. The flyover is proposed to be constructed at a height of 32m above the existing flyover there and the upcoming metro viaduct,' a senior NHAI official said. The project consultant, Bhopal-based Highway Engineering Consultants Ltd, submitted the DPR early this year, but it failed to take into account the viaduct. The NHAI then asked the consultant to revise the alignment and submit the DPR within a month. However, it finally prepared the report after a delay of nearly five months. As per the initial report, the project was expected to cost Rs 3,600 crore and would be built parallel to the existing NH 66 bypass section. However, the NHAI is studying the revised DPR and is yet to give final consent. According to sources, the project cost is expected to further rise, but the final estimation will be done only after the NHAI approval. 'The project is being planned in a way so as to fit within the existing ROW (Right Of Way). Hence, there is no need for additional land acquisition, except small areas at the start and end points,' the official said. Metro viaduct The metro viaduct of the under-construction second phase, connecting JLN stadium with Infopark, passes above the Palarivattom flyover. It is the highest point in the 11.17-km long Pink Line, which has 11 stations – Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium, Palarivattom Junction, Palarivattom Bypass, Chembumukku, Vazhakkala, Padamughal, Civil Station Junction, Cochin SEZ, Chittethukara, Kinfra and Infopark. 'It will be one of the highest sections of Phase-2. A special steel span of 60m will be constructed to facilitate the viaduct above the flyover,' said a KMRL official.

Metro Phase 3: Sitabuldi to Koradi Corridor Finalised in Rs8,625-Cr CMP Expansion
1 2 Nagpur: Even as works under Metro Phase 2 continue at a rapid pace across the city and it's outskirts, Nagpurkars can look forward to the next big leap, which is 'Metro Phase 3'. A new metro corridor between Sitabuldi and Koradi has been finalised as part of the recently presented Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP), confirmed senior MahaMetro officials after a high-level stakeholder meeting held on Sunday in the presence of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union minister Nitin Gadkari among others. The CMP, prepared by MahaMetro in collaboration with RITES, outlines the development of mass rapid transit corridors in the Nagpur Metropolitan Region based on traffic density, projected ridership, and future mobility needs. There is also a proposal for a Metro Phase IV, though the route has not been revealed yet. Among the key proposals in CMP Phase 1 are two High Capacity MRTS Corridors — the 11.5 km Sitabuldi–Koradi corridor and the 25km Mankapur Chowk–Rachana Junction stretch on the Inner Ring Road. Together, they are estimated to cost Rs8,625 crore. Of the two, the Sitabuldi–Koradi line was prioritised for development of the metro route. "We have finalised the Sitabuldi–Koradi corridor based on Peak Hour Peak Direction Traffic (PHPDT) assessments. The ridership projections and traffic volumes make it feasible for metro operations," said a senior MahaMetro official. The proposed corridor is expected to cater to a daily ridership of 1.47 lakh commuters by 2054. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Are Houses In Dubai So Cheap? While details such as the number of stations, alignment, and exact route are yet to be finalised, officials said that once the ongoing 15-day window for suggestions from all concerned departments ends, work on preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will begin. Tenders will be floated subsequently based on the DPR findings. On the other hand, the 25km Mankapur Chowk–Rachana Junction corridor was also identified as a potential high-capacity transit corridor. However, instead of immediately extending metro services, the plan currently involves deploying articulated buses along this route. "We will study the performance of bus operations on this corridor. Based on the data collected and demand observed, necessary modifications in the mobility plan will be made in future phases," the official added. The CMP was designed keeping the horizon year 2030 in mind and includes projections extending up to 2054. It aims to create a sustainable and integrated transport network to support the region's rapid urban expansion. The inclusion of the Sitabuldi–Koradi line is a response to the growing residential and institutional developments towards Koradi, along with the high commuting demand. Another MahaMetro official also confirmed that during the meeting, CM Fadnavis asked officials to begin work on developing a financial model for the CMP. "Fadnavis pointed out that while the vision is clear, the financing and revenue generation model should also be added in the CMP. He has directed us to prepare a model outlining funding sources, investment recovery strategies, and ways to ensure long-term sustainability of the proposed infrastructure," the official said. With Metro Phase 3 taking shape and CMP inching closer to final approval, Nagpur is on track to emerge as a model city for multi-modal urban mobility.

Proposed State Capital Region set to drive Chhattisgarhs next phase of growth: Official
Raipur, Jul 27 (PTI) The Chhattisgarh government's plan to develop Raipur and its surrounding urban clusters as the State Capital Region (SCR) is envisioned as the next major growth engine of the state, an official said. The initiative will bring together Raipur, Durg-Bhilai and Nava Raipur Atal Nagar cities under one integrated development plan, he said. Strategically located in the central region of the country, Chhattisgarh is emerging as a key hub for trade, commerce and industry. The development of the SCR, initiated under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, is aimed at meeting the growing demand for planned urbanisation and providing a sustainable ecosystem for education, healthcare, transport, business and modern infrastructure, the public relations department official said. The state assembly, during its monsoon session this month, passed a bill for the establishment of the relevant authority for the development of Chhattisgarh Capital Region (State Capital Region) on the lines of the National Capital Region, he said. According to official estimates, the population within the proposed State Capital Region is expected to exceed 50 lakh by 2031. To manage the anticipated urban pressure and ensure efficient public services, the state will establish a Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), similar to bodies like the NCR Planning Board, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, the official said. The CM will serve as the chairperson of the CRDA. The authority will also include ministers of housing and environment, urban administration and development, and public works department, along with the state's chief secretary and secretaries from key departments. Additionally, four MLAs representing the region and four elected members from local authorities will also be its members. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CRDA will act as the member convener, the official said. The authority will focus on effective land use, environmentally sustainable planning, and coordinated urban development, he said. A provision of ₹ 5 crore has been made in the 2024-25 state budget for the creation of the SCR office and preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR). Besides, ₹ 5 crore has been allocated for the feasibility study of a proposed Metro rail link between Raipur and Durg cities, the official said. The CRDA will serve as a regulatory and coordinating body, tasked with formulating comprehensive regional plans, facilitating public and private investments, and synchronising efforts across various governmental and non-governmental stakeholders. It will also promote economic and infrastructure development throughout the capital region, he said. A dedicated executive committee, headed by the CEO, will oversee implementation of works, the official said. To support the financial requirements of the project, the state government will establish a Capital Region Development Fund, along with a Recurring Fund. The authority will have the power to levy special infrastructure cess for capital projects. It will also be responsible for preparing an annual budget, along with yearly plans and progress reports, to be submitted to the state government, the official added.
