New York Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux is trying to make his move on an NFL record.

His critics are trying to move him.
The scouting report on him when he was taken with the fifth pick in the 2022 NFL Draft created expectations that were incredibly high. He was general manager Joe Schoen's first draft pick in East Rutherford and a building block in the trenches.
Many felt he was the best edge rusher, if not the best prospect, in the entire class.
In terms of the numbers, Thibodeaux, who has spent time being considered overrated, underrated, and now (potentially) out of a starting job. ... hasn't been "all that.''
Thibodeaux, though, has never lost his confidence.
Indeed, at minicamp, the Giants edge rusher set the expectation for his 2025 sack total.

'More than I ever had,' Thibodeaux told reporters. 'Every time I come out on the field, I want to have more sacks than I ever had, more tackles than I ever had and whatever I got to do to help the team. So yeah. I'm still going for the record, I'm going to go for the record every year.'
Thibodeaux set a career-high in sacks with 11.5 in 2023, although it came as a result of good fortune. He vastly exceeded his pass-rush win rates, which ranked among the worst starters in the league through two seasons.
That was his only season in double figures.
'I think I'm a consistent double-digits sack guy and I got to do that,' Thibodeaux said. 'It has been three years, going on four now. It has been a lot of ups and downs in my career and as a team, but I think this is a team that can win and I can help that.'

What do some critics think? "Expendable'' seems to be the word.
Bleacher Report, for instance, calls him a "luxury piece'' and starts a rumor as it wants to send the 24-year-old Thibodeaux to the Patriots.
But can a team really have too many pass rushers?
Thibodeaux is set to see less playing time in 2025 after the Giants drafted edge rusher Abdul Carter with the No. 3 pick, but more talent on the defensive line makes life easier for the significant playing time his talent, draft capital, and contract ensure he'll receive.
He may not set a new career-best in the box score. If his gains are real, New York will remain happy with his development as he positions himself for a significant second contract. ... maybe even in New York.

Mikal Bridges agrees to 4-year, $150 million extension with New York Knicks

The New York Knicks forward Mikal Bridges has agreed to a four-year, $150 million extension, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Thursday. SNY initially reported that the 28-year-old was eligible for a maximum four-year, $156 million extension. But, per Charania, Bridges took a slight discount to help New York's roster-building efforts. The Knicks had a window from July 6 to June 30, 2026, before Bridges was set to enter free agency, to secure a new contract with him. Bridges initially found his way to New York across the East River when he landed in Brooklyn from Phoenix in exchange for Kevin Durant. He spent five seasons with the Suns before getting traded to the borough south of Manhattan. The former Villanova Wildcat averaged 26.1 points per game in 27 games for the Nets upon his arrival and 19.6 points per game after starting in all 82 games the following season. Bridges was traded to the Knicks last offseason for Bojan Bogdanović, five first-round draft picks, and a second-rounder. The move reunited Bridges with his former college teammates, Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson. In his first season in blue and orange, Bridges proved to be a dynamic role player for the Knicks, averaging 17.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. His defense also shined in the Knicks' playoff run before they eventually fell to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals. Bridges averaged 15.6 points, 4.5 boards, 0.9 blocks and 1.7 steals per game in this year's postseason. Bridges' extension comes after the Knicks hired Mike Brown to replace Tom Thibodeau as their head coach. The team has also added reinforcements in free agency by signing Guerschon Yabusele and Jordan Clarkson.

MLB trade deadline: Rangers acquire pitcher Merrill Kelly from Diamondbacks, who continue sell-off

The Arizona Diamondbacks' sell-off continues with starting pitcher Merrill Kelly being traded to the Texas Rangers, ESPN's Jeff Passan reports. Kelly, who turns 37 on Oct. 14, provides another reliable arm to add to the Rangers' veteran starting rotation, joining Jacob deGrom, Patrick Corbin and Nathan Eovaldi. He's been the D-backs' most consistent starter this season, compiling a 3.22 ERA over 22 starts with 121 strikeouts in 128 2/3 innings. The Rangers' starting pitchers have the best ERA in MLB at 3.16, led by deGrom (10-3, 2.55 ERA) throwing like the ace who won NL Rookie of the Year and two Cy Young Awards with the New York Mets. Corbin (3.78 ERA) has experienced a career resurgence after struggling for the past five seasons with the Washington Nationals. And Eovaldi (9-3, 1.49 ERA) has been one of the best starters in baseball during the past six seasons. Texas (57-52) is a postseason contender, tied with the Seattle Mariners for second place in the AL West, five games behind the Houston Astros. The Rangers and Mariners are also tied for the AL's third wild-card playoff berth, 2.5 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians and three ahead of the Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Rays. Kelly was a late bloomer as an MLB pitcher, an eighth-round pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2010 after being drafted in each of the previous two years by the Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Guardians, respectively, but not signing. He played nine years in the minors before making his major-league debut with the D-backs in 2019. During his seven-year MLB career, Kelly has a 3.74 ERA and 62-50 record, averaging 8.2 strikeouts and 2.7 walks per nine innings. He's two seasons removed from his best year, when he registered a 3.29 ERA and 12-8 record in 30 starts, adding 187 strikeouts in 177 2/3 innings. Kelly is the fourth regular to be dealt away by Arizona leading up to the MLB trade deadline. First baseman Josh Naylor began the D-backs' trade season by going to the Seattle Mariners. That was followed by outfielder Randal Grichuk being traded to the Kansas City Royals and third baseman Eugenio Suárez also going to Seattle in a separate deal.

MAJOR update in Liverpool's record-breaking Alexander Isak deal

Liverpool have got Alexander Isak in their sights. The Reds have got ambitions to break the British transfer record for a second time in the one summer. Having added Florian Wirtz for a sum that could end up reaching £116m, they are ready to top that deal for Isak. It's believed Newcastle are willing to accept £150m for their prize asset - who is under contract until 2028. LFC Kits Shop Now LFC x New Era Shop Now LFC Signed Merch Shop Now LFC x Titleist Shop Now Despite that relatively long contract duration, however, Isak will be leaving sooner rather than later. In a transfer saga the Geordies never wanted or asked for, the 25-year-old has informed the club he has no wish to sign a new contract. Instead, he would prefer to discuss a move away in the current transfer window. Is Isak's Newcastle race run? With a minor thigh cited as a reason, the Sweden international is not taking part in the club's Asian preseason tour. And now it's transpired that Isak has been getting on with his own fitness work AWAY from Newcastle's training base. He's been spotted at Real Sociedad's training facilities - the club he left for Newcastle for £63m back in 2022. It looks like Isak's race is run - with pressure increasing on Newcastle to grant the player's wishes. Now a reporter in Spain has provided a new, crucial context to the Isak deal. Talks planned between Liverpool and Newcastle AS journalist Edu Burgos claims that official talks are due to take place between Liverpool and Newcastle in the next few days. Personal terms have reportedly already been agreed between the Reds and Isak over a five-year contract but club-to-club talks now need to reach a satisfactory conclusion. Burgos states that Richard Hughes is about to slide a £120m offer across Eddie Howe's desk and it remains to be seen how the Magpies react. Isak sends Newcastle message According to Burgos, meanwhile, Isak has ALREADY informed his teammates of his intentions to depart. The best thing for Newcastle to do now is quickly reach an agreement in order to best serve their own squad's needs. It's believed they are going to want a centre-back, a midfielder and a new centre-forward. A cash injection of £120m or more would certainly help them kick off a transfer campaign of their own. And Liverpool can get busy integrating their new forward ahead of the season kicking off. These are exciting times for Liverpool's frontline - with Isak, Ekitike and Wirtz potentially heralding the start of an electric new era.
