Shashi Tharoor's BIG remark amid rumoured rift with Congress: ‘National security will always…'
'Which is your first loyalty? To my mind, the nation comes first. Parties are a means of making the nation better. So, to my mind, whichever party you belong to, the objective of the party is to create a better India in its own way,' Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said while speaking at a private event in Kochi on 'Peace, Harmony and National Development'.
Tharoor also said that he will stand his ground regarding supporting the nation's armed forces and the government as he believes 'this is the right thing for the country'.
According to a PTI report, Tharoor said that politics is unfortunately or otherwise, in any democracy, about competition. "As a result, when people like me say we respect our parties, we have certain values and convictions that keep us in our parties, but we need to cooperate with other parties in the interests of national security, sometimes the parties feel that its disloyal to them and that becomes a big problem," he said.
Later, on the sidelines of the event, he told reporters that "nation first was always my philosophy".
He said that he came back to India only to serve the nation in whatever he can, through and outside politics.
"I have tried to do that," he said.
Remaining tight lipped when asked whether he has any problems with the Congress high command, he said he was not here to discuss any politics or problems.
Tharoor stressed that his commitment is towards a better and safe India whose borders are secure.
"Some of us may say, let's say, more capitalism. Some may say more socialism. Some may be in favour of certain kinds of regulatory controls. Some may be against too much regulation. So you have different points of view. That's fine. But ultimately, we must all be committed to a better India, a safer India, an India whose borders are protected, whose territory is safe, whose people's well-being can be nurtured. And that is my commitment", he said.
The Congress MP further urged all the political parties to stay united when the nation is "imperiled". He quoted former India PM Jawaharlal Nehru famous quote, "Who lives if India dies? And that's a question to which there is no answer. India must come first, and then only can we all live."
"I'm saying it to all parties. Put your differences aside when the nation is imperiled. Because if there is no India, there's a very famous line of Nehru's, which I am very fond of quoting. Who lives if India dies? And that's a question to which there is no answer. India must come first, and then only can we all live," he said.

Opposition uproar demanding answers from PM on terror attack and Operation Sindoor leads to adjournment in Rajya Sabha
The Rajya Sabha was briefly adjourned in the first hour of the first day of the Monsoon Session after Opposition uproar over the Pahalgam terror attack and U.S. President Donald Trump's claims on ceasefire during Operation Sindoor, which the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Mallikarjun Kharge said was 'humiliating' for the country. Mr. Kharge, along with several Opposition members in the Rajya Sabha, had submitted adjournment notices (under Rule 267) for a discussion on the terror attack and Operation Sindoor after suspending the listed business of the day. Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, the Congress president made a case for a two-day debate on the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor, alleged security lapses and foreign policy. 'The Prime Minister should answer,' he demanded. He said that the terrorists who carried out the attack have 'neither been caught nor killed till date'. He also flagged Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha's remarks 'admitting that there has been a lapse in Pahalgam'. Mr. Kharge said all political parties had given unconditional support to the government during Operation Sindoor. 'In such a situation, we want to know from the government what is the complete situation' he said. The senior Congress leader further said the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Deputy Army chief and a senior Defence attache had made some revelations regarding Operation Sindoor. 'The government should also clarify its stand on the statement of U.S. President Donald Trump, because he has claimed not once but 24 times that he got the ceasefire done. This is humiliating for the country,' he said. Responding to Mr. Kharge's demands, Leader of the House and Union Minister J.P. Nadda asserted that the government was ready to discuss all issues related to Operation Sindoor. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar also assured the Opposition MPs that he would ensure a full-fledged discussion on the issue for as much time as the members wanted. He also admitted a motion moved by BJP's Bengal MP Samik Bhattacharya under Rule 167 on the issue. Mr. Dhankhar said he will discuss the issue with leaders of various parties, as he adjourned the House proceedings briefly till noon, amid uproar by the Opposition. When the House met at noon for the scheduled Question Hour, the Congress MPs again raised the issue, and later staged a walkout from the House in protest.

Cong govt misleading BCs on quota issue: T BJP chief
Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Monday accused the Congress govt of misleading the public and attempting to shift blame onto the Centre over the issue of Backward Classes (BC) reservations. He demanded an apology from the state govt for what he described as a 'betrayal' of the BC community. Addressing his first press conference in Delhi, Rao cited the landmark Kesavananda Bharati case to argue that laws placed in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution are still subject to judicial review. "Even reservations implemented by the former Jayalalithaa govt in Tamil Nadu, though placed under the Ninth Schedule, are still pending in court. The Supreme Court reaffirmed this in the 2006 Kohli versus Tamil Nadu case," he pointed out. He accused the Congress of using legal complications as an excuse to delay local body elections while wrongly blaming the Centre. Rao urged the state to study the Madhya Pradesh model, which allows reservations above the 50% limit by using villages as units for calculation. If they want to increase BC quotas, they must first amend section 285 of the Panchayat Raj Act. So far, no one has even seen a copy of the ordinance," he said. He criticised the Congress leadership for what he called political neglect. "Chief minister Revanth Reddy has visited Delhi 46 times in the last 19 months, but Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders have not met him even once. In contrast, PM Modi and Union ministers have," Rao said. "Rahul Gandhi's refusal to meet Telangana CM is an insult to the people of Telangana," he added. Meanwhile, Rao dismissed talk of factionalism in the state BJP. "There is no old-versus-new group. Some are creating this narrative intentionally. If anyone lacks discipline or damages the party, action will be taken. As state president, I will address such issues in coordination with the national leadership," he said.
