Carlsberg reunites Dudek, Hyypiä and Smicer in film to celebrate 20th anniversary of Miracle of 2005

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, May 8, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — As a long-time sponsor of Liverpool FC, Carlsberg is releasing a limited-edition can – the Miracle Can – to mark the 20th anniversary of the Miracle of 2005, often hailed as the best match of all time. The 2005 epic match saw Liverpool FC overcome a 3-0 deficit at halftime to ultimately lift the trophy following a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. It is now forever etched in the memories of Liverpool FC fans.
The Miracle Can's striking Liverpool FC red and Carlsberg green design takes fans on a reminiscent journey through the highs and lows felt on that night in Istanbul 20 years ago. It's adorned with time stamps linking back to notable moments during the match so drinkers can relive the emotion two decades on, including the utter elation from fans at the final whistle after the club's miraculous comeback.
To mark the launch of the Miracle Can, the Danish brewer has reunited Liverpool FC legends Jerzy Dudek, Sami Hyypiä and Vladimír Šmicer for a short film.
The film sees the Miracle Can rolling down the production line as Hyypiä opens with an operatic version of Allez Allez Allez, it then cuts to Šmicer giving the can a kiss of luck like it's 2005 all over again. Finally, mimicking the crescendo in Istanbul twenty years ago, the can shoots off the conveyor belt to nestle in the gloves of Jerzy Dudek, the same gloves he wore 20-years ago on that night. The same gloves behind the wonder double-save that kept Liverpool FC in the game in the final minutes.
Launching first in the UK 8 May, supporters will be able to get their hands on the Miracle Can from select retailers and relive the magic of that unforgettable night two decades ago, one sip at a time.
The short film will appear across social media, online video, e-commerce and internal communications, as well as through in-store and outlet activations.
Carlsberg has proudly stood alongside Liverpool FC since 1992, and with a new agreement signed in 2023, this iconic partnership is set to continue until at least 2034. Over the past three decades, the two have been inseparable, sharing triumphs, enduring challenges, and becoming deeply woven into each other's DNA. Zulfahmi waits with bated breath as SIC 'shifts priorities'
KUALA LUMPUR: Zulfahmi Khairuddin is waiting anxiously for Sepang International Circuit (SIC) to make a final decision on whether Hakim Danish Ramli will race on a Moto3 wildcard at the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia (Oct 24-26). The ZK Racing boss said discussions with them have been positive but stressed that ultimately, the decision lies in SIC's hands. ZK Racing has run SIC's two-wheeled motorsports talent development programme on behalf of them in recent seasons. "I have discussed this with SIC last week and they are also looking to make this wildcard programme (with Danish) a reality," said Zulfahmi recently. "But they (SIC) have yet to make a solid decision so I cannot make the announcement yet. They have indicated that they are willing to bear the costs but it has to be discussed among their directors first." Zulfahmi, however, admitted that he does have some concerns as he claims SIC's priorities have now shifted away from talent development. "I believe that talent development remains a factor but is no longer a priority for SIC as it was previously. This is because they also have to focus on other areas. It (talent development) is no longer very important to them," added Zulfahmi. "Nevertheless, as the person assigned to the task (talent development), I will continue to give my best. "I hope a decision will be made soon so we can adequately prepare Danish to compete at the Malaysian GP. I know what it feels like to go to a race without testing on a uncompetitive bike." Malaysian riders are often given wildcards to race in the Malaysian GP to help boost local fans turnout during the race weekend. Danish is currently Malaysia's top young talent. He is leading the prestigious Red Bull Rookies Cup competition with only two rounds remaining this season. SIC has played an important role in developing Malaysian talent in both two and four-wheeled motorsports over the past two decades. Zulfahmi, a former Moto2 and Moto3 rider, himself had also benefitted from SIC's talent development programme during his racing years. Adam Norrodin and Syarifuddin Azman are two World Championship riders SIC has helped produce in recent years while Danish, 18, is expected to make the step up to the Moto3 class next year.

Numbers mean nothing as men's doubles eye redemption in Paris
PETALING JAYA: Numbers alone won't win titles, and the doubles squad know that having four men's doubles pairs at the World Championships is no guarantee of success. Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King were the last pair to make the cut for the world meet from Aug 25-31 in Paris. They were initially second on the reserve list but earned a spot following the withdrawal of several other pairs. The world No. 24 duo will join Asian champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, world No. 7 Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, as well as independent pair and former world No. 1s Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, in the prestigious meet. National doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky welcomed the strong representation for the world meet, but was quick to point out that stiff competition awaits. 'Having more pairs doesn't necessarily translate to success. What's important is preparing well in order to win,' said Rexy. 'This isn't about how many pairs are going to Paris, it's about how well we train and how much we put into it. Rexy's concerns are valid, as five months ago the men's doubles camp suffered a major blow at the All-England. Malaysia had six pairs in the world's oldest tournament, with the added presence of newly-appointed Indonesian coach Herry Iman Pierngadi, but the shuttlers returned empty-handed and delivered a disappointing performance in Birmingham. Still, Rexy is hoping his players can produce better results this time around, especially Arif-Roy King, who will be making their debut at the tournament. 'My hope is that they can deliver a strong performance in their first World Championships appearance,' he added. PETALING JAYA: Youngster Justin Hoh has a chance to silence the growing criticism over the lack of results in the men's singles department when he gets into action in the semi-finals at the Macau Open today. The 21-year-old Justin will face Tharun Mannepalli of India and barring any upset, should reach his first final of the year. Justin's run in the Macau Open has been nothing short of spectacular. Yesterday, he made a strong statement by sweeping aside 2019 World Championships bronze medallist Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand 21-9, 21-18 in the quarter-finals in 37 minutes.
