'Pratyusha Banerjee's Father Used To Give Her Alcohol, Was Aggressive': Claims Rahul Raj
Pratyusha Banerjee became a household name after she played the role of Anandi in the popular show Balika Vadhu.
Nine years after television actress Pratyusha Banerjee passed away, her former boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh has now made some shocking allegations against her father. In a recent interview, Singh claimed that it was the late actress' father who pushed his daughter into drinking. 'Her father used to give her alcohol," he told Bollywood Bubble and added that it was because of this reason that Pratyusha's depression became worse.
'She had been drinking long before I came into her life. Her father used to give her alcohol. When we got together, since we're actors and have to maintain our appearance, I told her that if she kept drinking like this, it would eventually lead to a disaster. She wasn't very interested in work either, and I told her clearly that if she kept alcohol in front of me, I might start drinking too, so we had to control it," he said.
Not just this, Singh also claimed that Pratyusha and her father often used to get into heated arguments after drinking alcohol. 'Especially after Balika Vadhu ended, her relationship with her father became complicated—they were very friendly when sober, but after drinking, her father would become aggressive, and they'd end up fighting," he added.
For the unversed, Pratyusha Banerjee became a household name after she played the role of Anandi in the popular show Balika Vadhu. However, she died on April 1, 2016, allegedly by suicide. Following her death, her parents filed a complaint against Rahul Singh. He was booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).
In 2023, a sessions court in Mumbai rejected Singh's discharge plea. In the plea, he claimed that he was falsely implicated in the case on account of 'personal vendetta". However, the court mentioned that prima facie it was clear that 'physical, emotional and financial harassment and exploitation" by Rahul landed the Balika Vadhu actress in depression.

2019 rioting case: Delhi HC seeks police response in activist Asif Iqbal Tanha's plea challenging charges against him
The Delhi High Court Monday sought a response from the city police in a plea by student activist Asif Iqbal Tanha challenging the framing of charges against him in a 2019 FIR lodged over violence that allegedly erupted over protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill at the time. Justice Sanjeev Narula, issuing notice, posted the matter for consideration next on October 13. Two other accused in the case — activist Sharjeel Imam and Jamia student Chandan Kumar — have also challenged the framing of charges against them by a trial court, with their petitions also pending before the Delhi High Court. The high court is due to consider all these pleas on October 13. While framing charges against the accused, the trial court, in an order on May 7, observed, 'Accused Sharjeel Imam was not only an instigator, he was also one of the kingpins of a larger conspiracy to incite violence.' Imam and Tanha were charged under sections related to abetment, criminal conspiracy, being part of an unlawful assembly, and rioting with a deadly weapon of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and sections of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, among others. According to the chargesheet filed in this case, 41 vehicles, including government vehicles, were damaged and set ablaze by a mob of hundreds in New Friends Colony. It also stated that 10 police officers were injured, including a station house officer (SHO) who sustained grievous injuries. Fourteen people have been discharged in the case, while charges have been framed against nine others.
