High life to 'high and dry': Where is MaMkhize's ex, Sbu Mpisane?

While Shauwn Mkhize – also known as MaMkhize – has been hogging the headlines lately for all the wrong reasons, her ex, Sbu Mpisane, has been lying low.
The former policeman-turned-politician and the businesswoman officially divorced last year.
Although MaMkhize and Sbu Mpisane publicly announced their separation in 2019, their divorce was formally finalised last year.
Mpisane – the father of Andile and Sbahle – claimed their split had not left him 'high and dry', as assumed by the public.
He told Sunday World: 'I have survived from the inception of the divorce, and I still do. The final divorce settlement was in line with the constitution and laws of the country.
'However, our divorce papers were clear that our marriage was irreparable, based on the reasons known to her since she was the author of the divorce.'
According to Sbu Mpisane's legal representative, assets accumulated in their marriage were 'distributed equally.' Furthermore, it was agreed that neither party was legally responsible for the other's debts.
Sbu Mpisane first made headlines for his lavish lifestyle as a Metro police officer in the dog unit department in Durban.
Despite earning less than R20 000 per month, the hotshot cop drove a Lamborghini to work and lived in a R15,5 million mansion, claims The Witness.
Sbu and Shauwn (MaMkhize) often flashed their cash through star-studded parties, attended by the who's who of society and cabinet. The high-flying couple claimed that their wealth was accrued through their multimillion-rand business tenders. Sbu soon resigned from the Metro police and joined his wife in their family business, Zikhulise Group, which deals in the construction, cleaning, maintenance, and transport sectors. After their split in 2019, there was a disagreement about ownership of their soccer club, Royal Eagles. The club later became Real Kings, and Royal AM, which has since been expelled from the PSL. The 'dirty laundry' was aired via an Instagram rant by their son, Andile Mpisane.
In 2023, Sbu Mpisane – who still resides in their La Lucia marital home – announced his political ambitions as the chairperson of the Gap Fixers of South Africa party. He continues his work in the party, which promises to 'fix' racial inequality in the country.

WATCH LIVE: All eyes on Ramaphosa amid explosive Mkhwanazi allegations

President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to address the nation regarding KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner lieutenant general Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's damning allegations against the minister of police, Senzo Mchunu. This comes after an explosive media briefing addressed by Mkhwanazi on Sunday, 6 July. The South African reported that during the media briefing, Mkhwanazi revealed that the political killings task team [Which Mchunu wanted to be disbanded in December 2024] has uncovered a syndicate including senior politicians, senior police officials, metro police, officials in correctional services, prosecutors, and other influential businesspeople that is controlled by a drug cartel in Gauteng. Additionally, Mkhwanazi accused the minister of police of political interference in investigations, as he reportedly ordered the task team to be disbanded and the withdrawal of 120 case dockets. He also name-dropped North West businessman and African National Congress (ANC) member Brown Mogotsi, together with Gauteng tenderpreneur Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala, as Mchunu's close associates who have classified SAPS information. Earlier this week, the Presidency confirmed that Ramaphosa was attending a BRICS summit in Brazil on Sunday, 6 July, when lieutenant general Mkhwanazi outlined numerous allegations at a media briefing. 'The President undertook to attend to this development on his return from Brazil, given the implications for national security,' Ramaphosa's spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya said. In response to Mkhwanazi's allegations, ministry of police spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi said they would be reviewing the provincial commissioner's statements and would consider appropriate action. Mogotsi said all the statements made by Mkhwanazi in public require an urgent, thorough and transparent investigation, on a proper platform. 'The minister of police remains committed to upholding the rule of law, ensuring accountability within the SAPS, and serving the people of South Africa with integrity,' she said. WATCH: ‘A scammer trying to scam me as me'

Experts say there has been a significant rise in these types of cybercrimes in South Africa. Actress and producer Connie Ferguson recently took to Instagram to warn her followers after a scammer attempted to impersonate her. Scammers are increasingly using the names and images of public figures to deceive unsuspecting victims. From fake investment schemes to bogus giveaways, con artists are exploiting social media and messaging apps to pose as well-known personalities. 'Time for a short story,' Connie wrote, sharing screenshots and a video. She said she received a WhatsApp message from someone claiming to be 'Connie Ferguson'. When she checked the number on Truecaller, it appeared as 'Madonsela'. The scammer then video-called her using an old clip from a live workout session she had posted during lockdown. 'After a few seconds, they dropped the call and texted, 'You saw me, right?'' she said. Connie made it clear that she does not offer any investment opportunities and urged her followers to remain vigilant. 'Thieves are using AI to convince you that they are whoever they say they are. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Don't be manipulated into losing your common sense because times are hard.' 'This surge can be attributed to several factors, including the increasing number of techniques and tools available, the growing popularity of social media platforms, and the public's heightened trust in celebrities. 'It goes without saying that people often fall for 'get-rich-quick' schemes, especially when a 'celebrity' is encouraging them to get involved,' he said.
